Fantastic reading
This book says it like it is and that's why Muslims are afraid...its the truth. Muslims keep on saying their religion is growing in the west and that there are 8 million muslims in the U.S. another lie many studies have been done to prove there are no more 2.5 million muslims in the U.S.

The truth sometimes hurts, anyone looking to learn the truth about what Islam is about should read this book.

Excellent summation
I think this was an excellent resource for Christians. We have not tackled the issue of Islam very well, but this book is short, concise and to the point. The authors give excellent details on the differences between the God of the Bible and Allah of the Quran and other doctrinal differences between the 2 belief systems.

This book makes it clear why no Christian who truly understands their faith can accept Islam as "the final religion."

Of course, for more in-depth study and review, a more detailed book is needed, but this provides some good starting points for research.

Credible authority to formulate an argument
In deference to the below muslim... look to Ibn Warraq, who has written many books on the subject. As a former muslim who examined the origins of Islam he has much to say on the subject. Ibn Warraq's books can be found right here on Amazon.com...just do a search and Be convinced! =)

Oh and I have read the pamphlet by Ankerberg...like his other pamphlets on various non-christian religions, he does an excellent job.

I look forward to the day when muslims will be willing to put the quran to the test like they do the bible. What a day of honest examination that will be...

i can't believe this
This book is severely biased. Which would be ok, but besides being biased, it also presents several blatant lies. Opinions are ok, distortion of facts is something else entirely.

Well covered!
There authors have documented and presented their facts very well.
For the Christian believer who studies spiritual warfare this is a wonderful aide to your original text book. The only ones who may be offended are the ones who are still in these various doctrines of deception. Sometimes the truth just hurts.

True Facts vs. Fiction
John Ankerberg and John Weldon have done and incredible job of challenging the Cults, especially those that are "Christian" based, to compare their beliefs, philosphy, and rituals against what the Bible, the Word of God, says. Some of the reviewers indicate the research of Ankerberg and Weldon is biased, and I guess if you consider the "truth" to biased, then I guess it is. (It's my bet those reviewers have never read the Bible) If you truly don't agree with what the authors have written, compare it to what the Bible says...basically, compare challenge the truth. The authors have even told you where to look for your answers. If you read the Bible, just read it, the directives are incredibly clear and call for little interpretation. After all, it is your salvation that is at risk. You can be politically correct or you can be eternally correct. But don't take my word for it...take the Word of God. It's all right there in black and white is the best selling book of all time....the Bible.

Professing themselves Wise- they bacame fools
I was very saddened to read this work. The one star is only for the portion of historical content that was true. It is a shame that men in their positions of influence would publish fiction- that's more polite than saying lies. Like the Apostle Paul wrote- "professing themselves wise, they became fools". It is sad that many people will ultimately place their faith in the works of these 2 men, accrediting their "learned book knowledge", without ever researching their references and quoted scriptures for themselves. I found it contradictive that the primary thrust of this book was to attack that Joseph Smith was not a prophet based on setting forth that he may have made a prediction that has yet to be fulfilled. If that is true, Then we must also have to disclaim Isaiah, Daniel, Jeremiah, Saint John and many others (in fact all others making prophecies in eschatology) who have prophecies yet to be fulfilled. And then to pull Deuteronomy 18:20 as a sole hinge to supposedly prove that Joseph Smith wasn't a Prophet, because he was killed- allowed to be killed- martyred, (hmm like Jesus and the Apostles?) was pitiful. The verse itself that they set forth, in stating "THAT PROPHET SHALL DIE" presupposes that if this verse is applicable to Joseph at all, then HE WAS A PROPHET. I sincerely hope that readers will recognize the spirit of Christ is not one of contention as they see the apostle Paul's fulfillment of scripture as these 2 writers "Profess themselves wise, ..becoming fools." My heart aches for those who will be mislead by it's message, which is easy to see thru if one will actually look under the guidance of the Holy Spirit for themselves at the issues. Their type statements and logic would teach me that Jesus actually did sin because he was rude to, and destroyed the possessions of, those in the Temple when he cleansed it. Yet we know there is more to the purpose and truth of that story. Even so, that is the type of surface scanning, attempt at objectivity taken in this book. I trashed it.

Out [money] and Disappointed
I rarely take the time to write reviews, but this book was bad enough I felt obligated to warn the reading public. These authors have gone back to early mormon sources from the mid-1800s, some fairly obscure and others really obscure (Orson Pratt, for example) and written a fairly hateful (and often inaccurate) anti-mormon tract. Some of the book may be interesting in a historical sense, but unfortunately it doesn't correlate much with what mormons really believe. If you're interested in finding out what Mormons believe, I recommend "Latter Days: An Insider's Guide to Mormonism, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints" by Coke Newell--it's thorough and addresses a number of controversial topics (The Book of Mormon, polygamy, etc.).

Historical Evidence
I believe that this book is very important to understand the Mormon Church. Historical background is a very important aspect in dertermining the validity of a faith.
I would also like to respond to the reader from Baton Rouge, who wrote their review on August 15, 2002. To say that the historical background of the Mormon Church no longer reflects the beliefs currently held by the Church members today is to undermine the reliablitlity of its doctrine in the first place. A Church who's own past and founding principals is no longer reliable or in line with current belief should stop and take a look at how they got to where they are today. Unlike Mormonism, Christianity (not in any way affiliated with Mormonism) is consistent today with historical background and evidence, including medical, anthropological, and non-Christian history evidence. I encourage you to thouroughly research objectively the beleifs and doctrines of the Mormon Church and contrast them to Christianity. You may be surprised.

crappola.
Worthless and "fact"less. If your looking for "facts on the Occult" ask an occultist. If your looking for facts on ANY religion ask a member of THAT religion not a member of your own who supposedly used to be of that religion. Not a member of a religion that is similar in look or has a couple of the same traits. All that was put forth in this book is hogwash in which they have done exactly what I just said shouldn't be done. Lies and inaccuracies to lead more sheep to the slaughter.

They should stock these at every cash register . . .
I was drawn into the occult and new age movement at an early age, much prior to the present wildfire permeating the shelves of books, tv and film. Involved in the occult and the new age for many, many years, while garnering a broad spectrum of most every kind of supernatural experience to some degree or another, it is only by the grace of God my eyes were opened.

It is upon this former experience as a new ager and occultist myself I testify that this book, as well as the authors' additional THE FACTS ON THE NEW AGE MOVEMENT, are incredibly well-informed exposes on the reality behind the preponderant paranormal craze. My hope is that more will come to see the REAL light behind the satanic deception before they waste too many years and energy as I did, blindly bungling in the darkness, mistaking the sugar coated lies and experiences they are tasting for "enlightenment".

A concern I have regarding both this and the NAM book is the failure to acknowledge that many, if not most, people do not see the menacing and outright dark influences of the practices in their own lives within any short range of time in order to discern the spiritual darkness they are really entertaining. (This phenomenon is, of course, vital to sustain the deception.) It might be profitable for the authors to include a sentiment of this extent in future editions. Although, we certainly have enough sinister biography sketches of former adepts to reflect the filthy undercurrents of spirit-hype madness, both within these pages and in other sources (for those who do their homework).

A final concern regarding both books is neglecting to acknowledge the common, postmodernistic emphasis within both the occult and the new age to "pick and choose" "whatever works for you". Therefore, a new ager and/or occultist reading these books may dismiss certain aspects of the material if they personally choose not to submit to the practices and ideologies which are neverthless, (with hindsight), traditionally embedded in the main "circuitry" of both paradigms.

The Facts on Rock Music (The Anker Series)
Published in Paperback by Harvest House Publishers, Inc. (1992)
Authors: John Ankerberg and John Weldon
Amazon base price: $3.50
Used price: $2.98
Average review score:

Informative...but did not have sufficient depth.
Ankerberg and Weldon's book on rock did do a great service: they pointed out that many of the musicians died early deaths (they finished writing the book on the very day David Ruffin of the Temptations died of a drug overdose!), they pointed out that rock music is often blasphemous (ex. the opening of the Doors' song, "The Soft Parade."), and that many of the supposedly "safe" rockers (ex. New Kids on the Block) have led unholy lives. However, Ankerberg and Weldon failed to understand that rock music is a LIFESTYLE and a mere musical form. To assume that there really is "safe" rock music is at best NAIVE. However, it is a good STARTING book for anyone wishing to understand the dangers of rock.

Apologetics Lite, 101.
Co-authors John Ankerberg and John Weldon only touch upon some of the most common arguments and questions regarding challenges to the Christian faith. At least they are honest and up front about how they mostly skip and dance around these questions. Searchers for serious, in depth study might find the numerous references they site helpful, so on that level this small book might be worth a look. But those with serious questions and challenges might find it too close in resemblence to Cliff Notes for much help in reaching one of the most important decisions of their lives.

Think For Yourself
Instead of hearing distorted, inaccurate regurgitations of half truths..why not ask a real live Witness the "facts"? Afterall, that's what a considerate, intelligent and truth-seeking person would do.

Just a thought........
I just wanted to ask the "Jehovah's Witnesses" who made commments on this website, if the "Elders" (or head church members -for those people who do not know the term) knew that they had read this book. From what I know as a former Jehovah's Witness, a true Jehovah's Witness cannot read books like this one because the group considers this type of book as "apostate material" that is unfit for a true Christian to read. Any Jehovah's Witness that did read the book is actually going against the church and could be severely punished for doing so.

My point is, do not make any judgements on this book without actually reading it first and try to look at it with an 'unbaised' attitude. If a person cannot seperate their strong feelings one way or the other toward the group, I do not believe they are able to give a 'unbiased' opinion on how beneficial or non-beneficial this book really is.

O boy
People, I can't believe these totally unscholarly reviews. First of all, not everyone has an opportunity to interview a Jehovah's Witness, so not everyone can get the facts from them. Number two, Jehovah's Witnesses are sure to be ignorant (whether willfully or not) of the history of lie-telling the watchtower has. Number three, this book is a fairly good introduction to JW doctrines and beliefs. Good expose of the NWT "Translation." Nice summary of JW history. The defense of the Trinity they offer is weak in some areas, but all in all this is a good book and a good buy. Whoever it was that accused Dr. Ankerberg of being a liar is quite wrong. Dr. Ankerberg is an exemplary Christian who I myself look up to. In fact, he's the guy who got me into apologetics. (Different story.) Anyway, I highly recommend this book as an introduction the Jehovah's Witness doctrine.

Fallacies of Halloween
Yeah, yeah... the "dread Lord Samhain" myth rears it's ugly head again. There was no god called Samhain or Druidic sacrifices for it. Samhain is a celtic word meaning "end of summer" Halloween started as a Harvest festival. If he can't even get the origins of the holiday right, why bother believing a word of it? Ridiculous.

FACTS ARE NOT TRUE FACTS AT ALL!
After reading the book , just to see what "christians" think of a Pagan Holiday, I find the authors to be very Ill Informed about the "True" Pagan meaning of "Halloween" or better know as "Samhain" it is really too bad that they had to bring evil into it, as we Pagans have no evil intentions on this sacred day. It is when we honor all those who have passed on before us. There is no evil here, only in the minds of the authors. It is too bad "Christians" are fed so much B.S. by the leaders they are suppose to trust the most.As for the Jack`O Lantern lore, it has a history of just lending light and back in the Celtic days, it was never evil. A gourd was carved out ( no faces, only a hole) it was ment to protect the candle from being blown out by the wind. The Christians are the one that gave it a evil meaning, as they have to most Pagan traditions, including Christmas. Please read a book or two from a Pagan history and you will find a very diffrent way of looking at this Holiday. I find the authors to be very Bias... But then again , Most Christian writers are.

Right to the truth of the matter
John Ankerberg and John Weldon tell it like it is in a way that is not intemidating. One can read for themselves the truth about halloween and decide for themselves what they are going to do with it.

If you can't beat 'em.....
It seems that these leaders of the Christian right have decided to take a tactic that has been used by opponents of Christ for years and use it themselves. Take a small portion of scripture and use it out of context and you can argue that the Bible says anything you want it to say. That is exactly what Ankerberg and Weldon have done to Freemasonry. After all we have been told at various times down through history that the Bible tells us to kill innocent children in various crusades and that slavery lived up to Christ's teachings. Using that same type of logic these two try to tell us the meaning of Freemasonry.

Worse yet they draw most of their conclusions from masonic writers. Heaven help us if the same kind of logic is ever used to write a book on Christianity drawing from some "Christian" authors. We could end up seeing Christ's teachings of love turned into the gold digging religion practiced by Oral Roberts, Jim Baker, or John Ankerberg. My faith is much more than that!

Good overview of Masonic worldview
This book provides a thorough inquiry into the question of whether a Masonic world view is compatible with a Christian worldview. The authors do an excellent job of refuting the assertion by many Masons that Freemasonry is not a religion, and that it is compatible with evangelical Christian beliefs. Christians who are involved in Freemasonry will be challenged by this book, and it provides an excellent resource to Christians with friends and relatives in Freemasonry.

The TRUTH will set you free...
I bought this book because I wanted the biblical truth on the Masonic lodge. That is what this book provides...biblical truth. That is why it is so offensive to the Masonic community. Darkness hates light. Thank God for people like John Ankerberg and John Weldon who are willing to stand up and tell the truth. May those who sincerely seek God's truth about the Lodge see the light and not be blinded by the satanic teachings of the Masonic Lodge.

Dime a Dozen; Cookie Cutter (and I'm not LDS)
I believe I should first state my religious belief and association with Mormon(ism). I am a Protestant who has studied Mormonism for quite a long time. I have read so many book like this one. Since I have read so many similar titles, I have become very selective in which books I like. This book is essentially a cookie cutter book that has little original information. Similar titles include:

The Mormon Illusion Unmasking Mormonism Mormonism Answered Verse By Verse How To Answer A Mormon

The Facts On The Mormon Church Letters To A Mormon Elder (better then the rest but...)

All of which I have read. They are all the same and they all present the same old, unscholarly arguments (excluding LTAME). There are enough books out like this one, I don't understand why the authors had to publish this book. My only assumption is for money, but I can't be sure. It's time to stop publishing these tired arguments (see FARMS and FAIR) and actually [put out scholarly books that deal with the early church fathers, that deal with extensive biblical interpretation, that deal with arguments put out by FARMS.

Some people give books like this one 5 stars. I used to agree and 6 months ago I probably would give it the best rating, but from studying extensively LDS apologetics, these books are tired, outdated, and essentially horrible.

I don't get what's up with the Ankerberg/Weldon series anyway. They aren't experts in any of the subjects they publish, but they have like (what?) 200 titles out? I read their evolution book which was just as bad as this one. Neither of them have degrees in biology, so WHAT ARE THEY DOING WRITING A BOOK ABOUT SOMETHING THEY AREN'T EXPERTS IN? But apparently Ankerberg has studied evolution "extensively" so we are supposed to buy his book? In the same sense, that logic applies to this book. It simply isn't put out by experts in Mormonism, and doesn't deserve a purchase. While Ankerberg is an expert in philosophy, I'm interested in what he writes in that subject, he is simply out of his league trying to tackle Mormonism.

Two of our most brilliant minds toiling in anonymity...
Do it! I dare you. Click on the name of this books authors and see how many they've written. Isn't it absolutely amazing? These two men in their short lives (any life would be too short) have amassed an immense amount of knowledge on: UFO's, the Occult, Catholicism, Hinduism, Mormonism, Jehovah's Witnesses, New Ageism, Holistic Medicine, the Trinity, Evolution, Charles Darwin, Angels, Homosexuality, Halloween (I don't wanna know), blah, blah, blah...And me, in my puny pathetic life laboring diligently in the vineyard to understand one small part of one branch of engineering. Where's a Nobel Prize when you need it? Do the nation's governors know about these guys? Why, they could replace an entire university faculty!

Good review of Mormonism, raises many important concerns.
This book brings many deceptions and Mormon doctrine into the light. Think for yourself, read the book. "The church and the kingdom of God has no fear of the truth." E.T.Benson
