Did America win, or England lose, the Revolutionary War?
Why didn't the English Army crush the colonial forces at Bunker Hill, Harlem Heights, or a dozen other places where their superior numbers and weaponry should have brought the day? The author, a direct descendant of British General John Burgoyne (who surrendered at Saratoga), details interesting English political aspects that affected the conduct of the war, including the desire senior military leaders held for reconciliation. A must for students of American or Military History

Great educational fun: A wargame in text form.
I am glad to see that Da Capo decided to re-print this book in a cheap paperback edition. The author is always interesting and vivid (his review of Battles in Britain, for example). In this case, he takes the reader step by step through the situation as it unfolded before one of commanders, presenting information that he would have had at the time. At several critical points there is a "pause" to ask the reader to select one of the options. Immediately after in small print, Seymour explains the decision actually made and briefly discusses the wisdom of the choice. Then the narrative continues to a second critical juncture, and so on. Small tactical maps interspersed in the narrative (there are 76 in all) are quite helpful. The 25 plates containing paintings or photos of commanders, some artwork on the battlefield scenes and a few interesting contemporary cartoons aren't remarkable, but nicely complement the text. There are good orders of battle for each campaign selected and a very well chosen bibliography, arranged to match the respective battles. The selections of battles for the most part are the usual (see Crecy's 1851 classic) "decisive" encounters seen in other battle books: Hastings,Crecy, Agincourt, Cromwell in the Third (English) Civil War, Saratoga, Waterloo, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg. The twentieth century battles might seem to deviate from this pattern a bit. Gaza/Palestine 1917 (instead of Passchendaele, Gallipoli, Verdun, Somme) and Anzio (instead of Britain, Barbarossa, Stalingrad, etc. for WWII). However the WWI and WWII selections are justified by the treatment in the narrative.
This is the way, in my humble opinion, military history should be taught, and to a large extent Seymour follows the methodology that has been used by the world's leading military academies.
Great reading, and terrific brain food. Highly recommended.

Dense, but still the classic
When I first tried to work through Goodwin's Grammar in learning ancient Greek, I was astounded at the sheer impenetrability of his system. It took me at least two weeks to find the verb "to be"! But once you get the hang of it, there's nothing like it for systematicity, thoroughness, and detail. Next to the LSJ lexicon, it's the most important volume for any student of classical Greek.
Not a good place to start, but buy it anyway.
Like the reviewer below, it took me some time to get the hang of using this book--and I agree also that it was worth the effort. _Greek Grammar_ is not a textbook, and it is definitely not a good place to start if you are teaching yourself. Like other nineteenth-century grammars (Gildersleeve's Latin grammar, for example, also highly recommended), this work starts from the assumption that you already know the basics. Once you've got a fair grounding in accidence (inflections, etc.) and can read a little prose, however, you are bound to start wondering "why" about all those rules. That's where Goodwin comes in. Thorough, systematic, carefully cross-referenced with plenty of examples (all translated), this is a veritable encyclopedia of classical Greek. It demands careful study, but it repays you for it handsomely. The only two provisos I have are that the print is very fine and may be hard on tired eyes, and that some of the terminology may differ from that used in modern texts (e.g., Gavin & Betts "strong aorist" vs. Goodwin "2nd aorist"). I bought my copy when I was just starting Greek, and it sat on my shelf untouched for over a year. Now, however, I use it all the time.

Good Book For Java Developers
This is really a good book for Java Developers who wish to develop XML based applications. Couple of chapters have good examples and explains concepts in a very clear format. Also the book is upto date with all the latest concepts in XML world.
Great Resource
I have been working with XML for a while now, and this book offered a great coverage of most aspects of what XML application developers need to know. I am not able to keep up with everything happening in this very broad part of the industry - and this book provided enough coverage of the areas I'm not able to focus on on a regular basis to help me stay current. I'd recommend it for anyone who's working with specific areas within XML and want to stay current with the broader scope of what is going on. I'd also recommend it for anyone who is new to XML and wants to know the various Java APIs out there.
Good Book for Java Developers
This is surely one of the Best Books availale in Market for Java Developers. I have been waiting to read a Book which covers all the latest XML API and how use them using latest Java Tools. Thanks to Wrox Publications for bringing this book to us. It covers how to do XML programming using all the latest Java API line I/O Sockets, Developing Presentation Logic, Developing Configuration and Deployment logic, Using XML in B2B applications. In short no other book in Market provides such a clear understanding of how to develop Java Based XML Applications.
Also it clearly explains how to use the latest Java Based XML Parsers like Xerces, Xalan and more. Friends if you need to get upto date with all the latest Java Based Parsers and different XML API, then this Book is really the Best one.

Poor format, good information
This is the book that I used in dog grooming school. It gives good information about how to groom dogs in both show and pet clips, and also covers bathing, brushing, and other areas of grooming. However, the black and white photographs are very hard to see, and the layout of the book (tables, formatting) seems unprofessional. Even though my grooming professor thought that it was the best book in terms of content, I would caution buyers that this book has a dated look and feel.
THE Industry Standard(or it should be!!!)
I have groomed for over 30 years and taught grooming for nearly 20. This is the book that all basics of professional grooming come from. Perhaps a more modern blade emerges from time to time or a pattern may differ slightly in the midwest or northeast but for a basic reference that is clear and simple, this is THE book to have. There are several newer books that explain basically the EXACT same methods described in this manual. It is simplicity in its finest form.

A very helpful tool for the serious Christian
This book is for those who are serious in their Christian faith. A christian needs the right tools for combating the world, the flesh, and the devil. We have tools such as commentaries for understanding the books of the Bible; we have dictionaries to help us understand words; and we have cultural books so that we may understand biblical times better. We also need a book that will help us identify cults and other religions. So again, i reccommend this book for adding to your collection of tools.

Inviting student success through creating inviting schools
This book provides important information for any teacher or administrator. Those seeking to enhance their classroom or school to create a positive environment will find the research and information valuable. In the age of high stake testing it is easy to lose sight of the need to create an environment where students feel invited to be part of the learning process. Purkey and Novak create a clear visual picture of what is possible in inviting all stake holders to be part of the educational process.
