This text is along the same lines at the New Testament word study written by the same author. It is very usable for the novice readers who are learning about the Old Testament, Hebrew and Aramaic language. I found this to be a valuable resource when I was first learning to get into the scriptures of the Old Testament.
Any bible student, or anybody who wants to go deeper into Old Testament scripture could benefit from this word study text. It really makes learning about the scriptures easy. A more advanced student of the Old Testament may not get as much use from this as a beginner. This text gives the reader enough practical information without getting into the pointless information that is useless outside of a Doctoral thesis paper.

G. K. Warren, a graduate of West point, served in the Corps of Topographical Engineers and then taught mathematics at the Point until he was named lieutenant colonel of volunteers of the Fifth New York regiment. The high point of his career occurred on July 2, 1863, at Gettysburg, when he recognized that the unoccupied Little Round Top was the key to the Federal's defense and quickly positiond troops on its summit and backside to prevent the Confederates from taking that hill and possibly destroying the entire Federal line.
As Jordan tells the rest of the story, Warren's subsequent service was characterized by arrogance, depression, a quick, sulphurous temper, and a bad habit of second-guessing his superior's orders. Just days before Lee's surrender, Warren's superior, General Phil Sheridan, relieved him of duty, casting a shadow of disgrace upon Warren's career and courage.
Unable to persuade General U S Gant to give him a court of hearing, Warren had to wait 15 years before the commanding general William T Sherman approved his application. By the time the inquiry was completed and the findings released (findings which at least partially exonerated him)Warren was dead.
The only other significant biography of Warren was published by his family in 1932, an apology vindicating the General and arguing his place in Civil War history.
Jordan's research includes the vast collection of papers which the General himself had arranged for his defense, but it is not for that reason one-sided or uncritical in its presentation of the General's personality, career, or place in history.
Everyone who today climbs to the crest of Little Round Top sees the larger than life statue of G. K. Warren, erected by the survivors of his first command. Few visitors, however, know that he was wounded there on that hot July afternoon, that he later was responsible for a meticulously exact map of the battlefield, that in spite of his sccess in Pennsylvania he was relieved of duty at Five Forks, Virginia, less than two years later and spent the remainder of his life trying to salvage his good name.
Jordan's book is an honest and revealing look at one of the lesser known but nonetheless significant military leaders of the war. The author's background as an attorney does influence his presentation, providing some analysis that readers may or may not accept. But this book does sit well along side his other Civil war biography on General Winfield Scott Hancock.

The book correctly points out that many leaders don't want (or cannot tolerate) having a powerful second-in-command. A COO is often a position created by the board to assist in a transition to picking a new CEO. If the old CEO can sabotage the COO, the old CEO may get to keep the job longer than planned. So what could be co-leadership often doesn't get off the ground. In fact, the COO job is often a dead-end for the inhabitant.
The advantage of the teams, when they work, is that much more can be accomplished by dividing tasks and by challenging each other's thinking so that better ideas are created and more mistakes avoided. The authors feel that every organization should have co-leaders. Frankly, that's unlikely to happen.
The book nicely summarizes 10 lessons for how co-leaders should operate and another 10 lessons for creating a co-leader environment. Most of these will seem like common sense to you, but they are worth considering.
My own research on CEOs shows that the number of roles they are expected to excel in continues to grow. On the other hand, those who are most successful year in and year out as CEOs usually have no co-leaders. They tend to operate with a top management team that more broadly shares the responsibilities and challenges. It would be interesting to put some quantitative measures on the co-leader concept to see how it performs compared to the alternatives.
The main benefit I got from the book was learning more about people who have toiled out of the limelight before becoming CEOs (and who made important contributions as COOs) like Craig Barrett at Intel and Steve Ballmer at Microsoft.
If you are thinking about having a COO or taking a COO job, this book is a must read!

The most moving is "self pity"
I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself. --D. H. Lawrence
"FIDELITY" - "...The wonderful slow flow of the sapphire..."
"GOD IS BORN" - "...And so we see, God is not until he is born. And also we see there is no end to the birth of God."
"SHIP OF DEATH" (Appendix III version) - "...Pulling the long oars of a lifetime's courage, ...and eating the brave bread of a wholesome knowledge..."
"GRIEF" - "...How am I clotted together Out of this soft matrix... The air, the flowing sunshine and bright dust..."
"WEDLOCK" - "...How sure the future is within me. I am like a seed with a perfect flower enclosed..."
Finally, as a scientist I marvel at his intuitive grasp of relativity in "SPACE" and "RELATIVITY" - ..."As if the atom were an impulsive thing always changing its mind."
I would be delighted to share my enthusiasm with other readers.

David Bailey has gone to great lengths to research the episodes of Frasier and he reviews them efficiently with a lot of wit. He disects the episodes into comfortable headings and then he breaks down the episode. We learn of guest stars; the celebrity callers and regular characters who don't even deserve a credit like the overworked waitresses. My favourite part of the compendium is the way the author continues minute sub-plots which an average viewer will forget after a viewing. He focuses on Granny Moon's antics, Maris' inappearances and the blossoming romance between Niles and Daphne.

The section on canting and alignment is amazing. On first reading I was sceptical. However, I have recently been correctly canted and aligned and am amazed at the difference. As an instructor and racer, I work a lot on my skiing technique. Being correctly aligned has shown the biggest single improvement in my skiing for years.
The techniques discussed in this book are also very very good. Most of them are now more relevant than when the book was written as they allow you to get the most out of the new generation of carving skis.
Buy this book, read it, read it again, be aligned and then ski better than ever.
Warren is the father of carving long before it became a fad. It is "how the racers ski" (which is also the name of his first book from the early 70's that is a classic).
The content if outstanding and the writing and presentation is equally as nice. Glossy pages, excellent photography.
I've given this book to more hard core skiers than I'd like to say.
The section on balance and alignment alone are worth the money. Buy it!
