It's a very good book
I am six years old and my mother read this book to me. This is the second best Boxcar Children book we have read. My favorite so far is The Mystery in Washington, DC. I like this book because it takes place in a zoo, and it has lots of endangered animals in it. The mystery was full of surprises, but Mommy guessed the right guy as always.

The Secret Under the Tree(Adventures of Benny and Watch, 7)
A great book for Spring and for all those kids who like to dig in the backyard. While showing the love between a grandfather and grandson, it also emphasizes the value of time capsules, map making, and photographs.

What a wonderful book!
It is a book that my teacher make me to read it, it is hard for me at first, but not for now.
It was about four children, Benny, Henry, Violet and Jessie who lost their mom and dad, and they didn't go find their grandpa because they think he will be mean to them. They got only a little money, so Henry go out and work for the doctor. And when the doctor look at the news paper, it said that two boys and two girls was missing, whoever find them will get a lot of money. And he think that it was Henry and his brother and sisters.
One day, Violet was sick, so Henry ran to the doctor and tell him that his sister was very sick. The doctor go to their home and take Violet to his home.
Will the doctor call their grandpa and get the money? And why this story his to do with the boxcar? To find out, read it!

Never read the books but purchasing TODAY!
Last night I had the opportunity to view a play entitled "The Boxcar Children" at the Seattle Children's Theatre. What a masterpiece--"flawless" expressed my husband who accompanied me along with our 4 year old daughter and 6 year old son. It captured the attention of old and young alike; not to mention, a tear jerker. I'm so anxious to purchase the books! I've read the reviews from others and can't wait to dive into them to read to my little ones! I have to say, the best part of the evening was actually meeting Gertrude Chandler Warner at the reception--what a wonderful treat!!!!! I placed 5 stars on the rating even though I have not read them yet...as they say, the book is always better!!!

This is the book that started my love of reading
I can still remember the day in the 4th grade I checked out this book from the Crescent School library. Up until that time I had never read any book of substance, just those 5 minute "See Jane run" titles that are so forgettable. This book had me rivited. I was so proud that I had read such an "adult" book. There was such a sense of accomplishment, and the story was so interesting that I blew through it in just a few days. A year earlier I was held back in the 3rd grade and was not a very successful student. This book changed all of that for me. For the first time reading was something fun, and not just homework. After I read it I wanted to read more of these kinds of books but the school year was ending. That summer I enrolled in the Public Library Reading Club and read 75 more books. Today I look back on THE BOXCAR CHILDREN with fond memories. I went looking for it as a Christmas Present for my brother's son who is now in the 3rd grade. I was suprised to find that it was published during the heart of World War II in 1942. Great things endure and obviously I was not the only one to have discovered this book. I want to thank Mrs. Evelyn Wilkerson, that wonderful librarian who suggested the book for me. She gave me such a wonderful Christmas gift, the gift of reading for the enjoyment and pleasure of it. I totally recommend this title for any young person!!!! I always seem to be in need of Presents, I think I will go back and buy a few extra copies just in case :-) Ed Henderson Associate Editor of Scouter's Journal Magazine Past Chairman of the Spalding County Library Board

A fun book for kids!!
The Boxcar Children #2 Suprise Island is a great book for kids and others 15 and under. My favorite part was when the kids found Indian Point and all the artifacts hidden there. After they found all the artifacts they made there own museum. My other favorite part was when the dogs raced each other. When they had to leave they weren't very disspointed because they knew that they were going to come back. The author is such a realistic writer that when you read this book you think that you are there with them.

Full of surprises
I still enjoy these books even though the real thrill of reading them only happens when you're still a child. I remember not liking this one much the first time through, actually, but then a year later or so re-reading it and liking it.

Basically it's a summer of re-living the survival skills of the first book, except they are in a barn on their grandfather's island. A captain and his so-called handyman live close by to help if anything should happen. But the handyman seems to know a lot, and the children find it hard to believe that he's only a handyman.

This book also marks the first appearance of Benny's friend Mike, who plays a pretty important role in some of the books to come. It also hints at the yellow house, which was what spurred the story of the third book (the first real mystery in the series).

Definitely should be read as part of the real Boxcar Children experience - not the foundationless fluff written by various authors of today.

Supurise Island
If you like adventure this is the book for you! This book takes you on a quest to a new land. The Box Car Children always find a way to kepp that book in your hand!!I reccomend this to anybody who like discoveies

The Castle Mystery
When their grandfather's friend, Carrie Bell, invites the Alden youngsters to help her restore an old castle, the children become involved in searching for a missing Stradivarius violin, investigating mysterious lights and following a treasure map. Can the children solve the mystery hidden within the castle?

A Mystery for Young Readers
Children who are creative thinkers and problem-solvers will enjoy trying to solve the mystery found in #36 of the Boxcar Children series. The story takes place in dreary Drummond Castle, a smaller version of a German castle that is built on a cliff with a cave beneath. The Alden family has been invited by Grandfather's friend, Carrie Bell, to help turn the once-magnificent home into a museum. When the Alden children learn that a Stradivarius violin owned by the original Mr. Drummond has disappeared, they work together to find the missing instrument.
Three shady characters become the children's suspects: Mr. Tooner, the groundskeeper; Sandy Munson, Carrie's assistant; and Tom Brady, the antiques expert. As the Aldens bravely encounter seeing lights coming from uninhabited parts of the castle, hearing eerie music at night, and being locked in the cave, they succeed in figuring out who really has the valuable violin--and the true identity of one of the suspects comes as a surprise to all!
Being a second-grade teacher, I recommend this book to children who are entering the world of chapter books. The spooky setting and strange happenings will keep young readers highly interested. The clues and foreshadowing of the book will stimulate higher-level thinking skills, as well. Parents or teachers who read this book aloud to children will undoubtedly have insightful discussions as they try together to solve the mystery.
