If there is a Heaven on Earth...
it is this, it is this , it is this!
Since Kashmir is 'dangerous' you might be inclined to Visit 'La Mortella' a truly amazing garden paradise.
This Garden is the enduring, living 'legomonism' of Russell Page, master Gardener and disciple of Gurdjieff. The book includes both Page's original plan and an extraordinary aerial view color plan of the garden.
'Victoria Amazonica' is featured in sumptous photographs.
It truly provides meaning to William Walton's epitaph:
"All Bliss consists in this
To Do as Adam Did" -Traherne

I loved The Official NBA Register, 2000-2001!
I thought that the book was great, in depth, and it gave stats and facts for every single player in the NBA. I really enjoyed the book and I would recommend it to anyone who likes basketball.

Strategic HRD is the Perfect Text!
This book is a sensational choice for a graduate course in Human Resource/Human Resource Development. It's very readable, but not simplistic. One of its major advantages is that is includes the history and foundations of the field of HRD, but also includes chapters on some of the "cutting edge" trends and concerns of Workforce 2001. I am using it for the HRD Survey course and intend to recommend that all of our doctoral students buy the book as an excellent supplement to all of their specialization courses. I think it's the best book on HRD now available.

the book is a path to the sublime
well thought-out and well written...the author merely designates the jump shot but it is really an implicit comparison to a way of life. with the aid of cohesive metaphors and illuminating paradoxes the book allows the western mind to comprehend the art of "letting go". a concept which is not only difficult to learn, but also it is all too often misinterpreted as a form of inactivity. the author explains the shooter should be absorbed in what he (she) is doing, and not how he (she) is doing. the book serves to counterbalance our culture often relies solely on rational thinking. i'm buying a second book because i highlighted so many things in the first. i own a dozen or so books on taoism this one is by far the best at communicated to the western mind that inherent in everything is the natural tendency to act harmoniously with the rest of the universe. this is one introspective and intelligent author that just happens to also coach basketball. my only wish is that he would coach my son.

EXCELLENT for babies and toddlers!!
This book is excellent for babies and toddlers. The bright colored pages attracts attention to the book and the story. The stories are very biblically correct and my daughters have enjoyed them since birth. The pages are also made of a thick paper which are not easily torn -- a must for young children. All parents need a copy of this Bible story book.

A concise biblically accurate children's Bible story book.
Dr. and Mrs. Walton in frustration over the lack of quality children's Bible story books decided to write their own Bible story book. Dr. Walton as a Old Testament scholar and a father of three children worked together with his wife to create a story book that will delite your children while teaching them the Word of God from the Bible and not from Sunday School myths.

Birding by Ear, Eastern/Central, Peterson Field Guides
....This set of audio tapes was a disappointment to me. I had wanted a set of bird songs to accompany my new Peterson Eastern Birds field guide, 4th edition.( Previously, I had owned the 2nd edition and its excellent, page-coordinated, accompanying tapes and had used them for years.) I bought this new set of audio tapes blind, so to speak, because they were shrink-wrapped with no real description visible. No one in any of the retail stores I consulted knew anything about them nor was willing to break into the shrink-wrapping.
....Birding by Ear, Eastern/Central is actually a 3-tape short course in identifying bird calls. It is essentially useless for field identification. To make use of this set of tapes, one would have to sit down and listen and listen and listen to interminable commentary by a sonorous male voice introducing bird calls in clusters that are of minimal use because they are grouped by similarity, which often doesn't translate into geography or habitat. The second side of the third tape is a "review" that is actually a test.... one must listen to a series of unidentified songs and try to remember what they are, after having spent the hours required to listen to the other 5 sides of the tapes.
.... The up side of this set of tapes is that the bird song recordings are excellent. They include both the song and the call. (But they are useless in the field in this format.)

A great choice for the first step in learning birdsong
If you live in North America east of the Mississipi and want to identify birds by ear, read on...

This audio set is a very well thought out and produced tutorial for introducing beginning "ear" birders to the world of birding by ear. The audio quality is excellent with several renditions of each song and call. The pace is well suited to the target audience - only after repeated listening will you want to skip ahead through sections. The groupings of similar songs seem well designed, and reflect situations in the field that pose problems. Each song is described verbally, with an onomatopoetic description. I wish the CD were coded so that sub-tracks could be accessed directly without the introductory descriptions, but the design of this set isn't as encyclopedia of song, rather as short course in learning how to identify song.

Buy this and the "More birding by ear", listen to them for 10 - 30 minutes a day (great drive time listening), and master the art of birding by ear!

Great Tool!!!!
Great learning tool for the novice and a great reminder for the seasoned veteran.

what gives me the write to title this thing when a title....
for this book, devotions upon emergent occasions and deaths duel has already been so good. Wow! what more can i possibly say....alot. firstly, fascinating stuff. it was really great and jesus Christ we love him, John Donne? WOW?!! what do you think? read it really it is very nicely proportionate for me the dimensions where spectacular and also a very nice size, John Donne? Where in the world is John Donne when we need him now....bye John Donne?

That action concerns me
I must admit that I bought this book solely for the most famous of Donne's Meditations - Nunc lento sonitu dicunt, morieris, AKA "no man is an island". I was unaware of the circumstances which surrounded Donne's writing of the Meditations. He had taken ill with a strong and high fever, and believed that he was dying. The meditations trace his spiritual journey through his illness, starting with the beginning (The first alteration, the first grudging, or the sickness), through attempts to treat him (The physician is sent for), to treatments (They apply pigeons, to draw the vapors from the head - yuck!), until he comes to terms spiritually with his fate (From the bells of the church adjoining, I am daily remembered of my burial in the funerals of others).

These meditations make a fascinating contrast with the other work by Donne in this book: Death's Duel. This was the last sermon that Donne ever preached, one month before he died. Not only did he know that the end was near, but so did his audience, who called it "the doctor's funeral sermon". It is interesting to see how Donne's view of death had changed in the years between the two works. By the time Death's Duel was written, Donne's mother, wife, and six of his twelve children were already dead.

In spite of the fact that Donne wrote over three hundred years ago, I am still influenced by his writings. Although I am not Christian, I agree with many of Donne's thoughts on how people interact with each other, and how we effect the lives of others, though we might not realise it. "Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind." Donne, though dead, is still involved in mankind, and this book aptly displays it.

Helpful but not for casual reading
Different from Dillard and Longman's "An Introduction to the Old Testament," this work tends to focus more on the message of the books of the Old Testament.

As the synopsis states, it is a text. Not to detract from the quality of scholarship, but it definitely is a text. This should be reserved for the more in-depth study of the messages of Scripture.

No, it doesn't address the stock market. But hey, the Bible doesn't claim to direct your NYSE investments. It does however provide you with the fundamental principles of financial stewardship, much of which you will find addressed within this title if you are ready for a little advanced study.

Wisdom that never fades
With the stock market hitting incredible heights and then dropping preciptiously and suddenly enough to scare the pants off the ordinary investor, one turns to the Old Testament to find the advice to make it through turbulent markets: "Thou shalt keep the winners and chuck the losers." And it is in the book of Daniel where Daniel, a notorious highroller, first proclaimed to the world: "The trend is your friend." Are you convinced?

*A Survey of the Old Testament* sets out to do exactly that. But I really couldn't comprehend the interest of this grand old book to surveyors. Surveying land to determine property boundaries or new paths for roadways is one thing, but survey the Old Testament? Do civil engineers have something in mind with the Old Testament that we don't know about?

If this question has crossed your mind (it crossed mine briefly before I left the funny farm, but, as I wanted to get out, I suppressed such a delicious thought) then this book is for you. However, I would not try to read it without a strong back ground in the Integral Calculus or Fourier Analysis. In fact, if you have read the Old Testament itself without a good working knowledge of quantum mechanics and string theory, then you won't be able to make heads or tails of what is meant by the statement, "Thou shalt not steal."

Definitely a good read, especially if you are trying to negotiate the escalators of the Washington, D.C. metro.

An excellent resource!
In college I usually borrowed textbooks but occasionally one would be so good that I'd part with my money so I could keep a copy. This is one of those rare finds. This book is a wonderfully odd mixture, it is scholarly but it is also written from a perspective of belief. It's a great read for anyone seeking a greater understanding of the Old Testament, especially a student preparing for a graduate level class in Old Testament Introduction.

Baseball Register 2001
All at your fingertips: this book has all of the basic stats for each and every player who played a game in 2000. However, I felt that this book could have been a lot better. I have to stress that this book only presents the classic basic stats such as batting averages, RBIs, etc, but not slugging percentages, on base averages, or WHIPs. Also, the book provides no photographs (even Who's Who In Baseball has photos of most of the 700 players in their little book) and very skimpy player biographies. STATS Inc provided the statistics for this book and publish their own line of books, including Major League Handbook, which would probably have more of the numbers that more hardcore fans would want. What would have set this book apart from Major League Handbook would have been interesting biographies or photos, not tidbits such as "led California League in total chances in 1994". Save your money for STATS' Major League Handbook.

A very thorough book.
For stat lovers, this is a must. Gives stats on all players plus prospects. Also year end league leading stats. They could improve on a few things - like showing a players slugging average and on-base average, which are much more important than showing how many times a guy turned a double play in the minors.

Indispensible!
The plot is lousy but the cast of characters is tremendous! This is the standard reference work used by announcers for those endless trivia games they play with each other and the audience while filling the time taken up by intentional walks and visits to the mound. The Sporting News has sponsored this book for the past umpteen years--I have kept every copy I bought right next to my TV chair for easy reference during the season. Great for finding past players without searching through the hardbound, 5-pound encyclopedia. My copies are well-thumbed.
