A 31-Day gift of wondeful affirmations
Walters brings words of wisdom, strength, love, receptivity, nurturing, inner freedom, grace, inner calmness, intuition, comfort, giving beauty, appreciation, fairness, forgiveness, and generally wonderful things to think about. Only a few of the cards relate specifically to women, so these are great for men to see as well!

These cards, as well as the others in the series, Secrets of Inner Peace, Secrets of Success, etc. make wonderful gifts! They are in a jewel case that folds back into a stand that is great by the night stand or on the desk.

I was very fortunate to obtain many of these different sets and some extras of each. These affirmation-a-day cards are wonderful, and contain on each a beautiful picture as well. Truely a classy gift for that special person in your life to give for no other reason than that you love her!

There are 31 cards in this set and the others, and they can be used month after month, or if you have differnt sets, you can change them out ever so often.

Conscious Decisions
A lot of people talk about wanting peace on earth, but how exactly would that be achieved? This tiny book gives some insight into how we can create peace within ourselves and through that peaceful state we can therefore be a calming influence our own world.

The quote I agree with most is:

"The secret to bringing Peace on Earth is to relinquish selfish desires and thereby to establish peace and freedom in your own heart."

Now we need a book to tell us how to relinquish selfish desires. ;) The secret of relinquishing selfish desires is ...

Through this tiny book you realize peace is not a passive force, but more like nourishing rain that sustains what it touches. J. Donald Walters speaks of learning to forgive, finding peace where you live and radiating your own inner peace out into the world.

Has a Christmas, Teddy Bear and Angel type theme.

Tiny Books with Timeless Secrets
If you are a fan of tiny books filled with wisdom, you will love the "Secrets Series." Each book is beautifully illustrated and has "31" thoughts/quotes. The idea is to read a selection and then read it again at various points during the day until it is absorbed into your subconscious.

"Secrets of Emotional Healing," deals with how to overcome anger, anxiety, depression, discouragement, loneliness, unkindness, hurt feelings, cynicism, bitterness, dependence on others, discontentment, doubt, mental dullness, fearfulness, feelings of guilt, greed, irritation, negativity, insecurity, jealousy, conceit, resentment, self-pity, low self-esteem, fear of failure and fear of death.

My favorite quote on day five is:

"The secret of overcoming depression is to affirm mentally, 'I am not my moods, and I am not subject to the moods of others. I am ruler in my kingdom of thoughts and feelings!' In everything you do, strive to be a cause, not an effect."

When put into practice, this "seed of thought" can become a rather powerful and stabilizing force. Words contain a power and unfortunately many of us talk to ourselves in a way that brings negative results. This book has already helped me to think more positively. It provides a sense of freedom from those controlling thoughts with which our minds try to destroy us.

If you feel that you need to incorporate more positive thinking patterns into your day, this is a beautiful gift to yourself. I also think this would be quite a thoughtful gift for a friend or relative who is attempting to overcome negative thought patterns.

Keep this tiny book in your pocket and when you feel a negative emotion trying to control you, look up the specific "secret" and repeat it to yourself until you break free from the chains of your negative thinking.

The secrets to breaking free from emotional turmoil.

30 days to a more radiant you
"The secret of radiant health and well-being is to become a cause, not an effect. Let nothing condition your happiness. Accept from others only what you choose to accept: their good suggestions, but not their insistence on them; their constructive criticism, but not their anger. Radiate outward into the world around you the light of your faith and wisdom." ~J. Donald Walters

If you enjoy reading beautiful thoughts, you will enjoy all the "Secrets" books by J. Donald Walters. He has a true gift for simplifying the complex. In just a few words, he embraces an entire philosophy that can help change your life.

These books have encouraged me to think more clearly. I'm reviewing all these little books because I really want to share these secrets with you. They are have been quite an inspiration to me.

This book is especially cute and the art has a fresh, alive feel to it. This is a book of "seed thoughts" you can plant into your subconscious. Each day you read one thought and then leave the book open and allow repetition to help the thought become absorbed more deeply into your subconscious.

I find that even reading the book once is helpful. I actually enjoy reading each book all the way through each time.

This book contains the secrets to radiant health. There are comments on having a balanced diet, a reminder to exercise and notes on how to be more content and grateful.

One secret for each day of the month.

Escape the Psychological Vortex
"A person with a healthy ego is not, as some people imagine, self-assertive or aggressive. These qualities are symptoms, rather, of a contractive consciousness." ~J. Donald Walters

The author goes on to explain how a person with a healthy ego gazes outwards in appreciation on the world around them. They seek to understand others and relate.

A person with an unhealthy ego is preoccupied with himself, his complexes, problems and worries.

It does seem either you live a life of expansiveness or contractiveness.

Through this book you can expand your knowledge of how to "get into an expansive mode." The "secrets" follow a logical sequence. First you realize you are unique, then you learn how to enhance that uniqueness and lastly you concentrate on your future potential.

I love these secret books as they encourage a change in your thought patterns. By changing one thought, you could really change your entire life. These tiny books can make a big change in your life.

"The secret of self-acceptance is being grateful for whatever tests you attract in life, for they are means by which you can grow in strength and wisdom." ~Day Thirty

Paramahansa Yogananda's disciple shares loving memories
Donald Walters (Swami Kriyananda) makes you feel as if you were there during Yogananda's (Autobiography of a Yogi) years in America when he brought Eastern philosophy to Western minds. The story of Walter's spiritual journey is touching and readable. His perspective is more familiar, since he is an American, and his honesty about the obstacles he faced is inspiring. The book has many new pictures not published in SRF material.

Interesting but not up to date.
Here is a biography that should be revised
to include Mr Walters latest years and exploits.
His regard for his master still comes through.
Otherwise it is a bit weak on original ideas,
more like a mellow stroll.

Also recommended;
Newer Editions of "Autobiography of a Yogi"

Stick to the review!
The last reviewer seems to have forgotten we are reviewing the book, not trying to defame the author. What Swami Kriyananda has or has not been doing is irrelevant to this book. I hope the reviewer has at least read some of the Swami's latest books, to see if he is still copying his Guru.
This book came at a time when I was having some misgivings about the direction SRF was heading. I had never heard of Donald Walters or Kriyananda, so when I was given the chance to buy the book, I jumped at it. The stories he tells about the great Master are beautiful, I can read the love for Yogananda in every sentence. I also learned about Ananda, and what they were doing; I eventually became a member. Ananda is like the church that gives freedom in worship while SRF is like The Vatican!
Don't listen to the hate and gossip mongers, read this and other of Kriyananda's works; you won't be sorry.

A book everyone should read
This is one of the best books I have ever read. Donald Walters [Swami Kriyananda] makes God not only more understandable, but treats Him in a manner we don't always see; as a friend and mentor, a constant loving companion who is enjoying His grand drama of life and death, pleasure and pain, good and bad, through each one of us. [Actually I should have said enjoying Herself, as Walters often speaks of God as the Divine Mother, the feminine aspect of Divinity].

If you have read "The Autobiography of a Yogi" by Paramhansa Yogananda, The Path is the perfect companion piece, for it pictures Yogananda as Yogananda himself could not, as a being of Pure Light and Divinity, a Yogi-Christ walking amongst us. If you have yet to read Yogananda's autobiography, it will be next on your list.

Believe me, the God spoken of in "The Path" is a God we can all relate to. A warm personal God, full of love and compassion for each one of us. A God of Ecstatic Bliss of whom we are all part; our seeming separation only a minor, and very temporary circumstance. A God who is gently bringing each of us,step-by-step, back to our true home in the Ever New Joy of pure Spirit.
[The original edition of this book is entitled, "The Path: Autobiography of a Western Yogi.]"

THE GRANDEST ADVENTURE IS HERE IN US ALL, SEIZE IT!
A spiritual classic would be to grossly understate its potential effects; this book of truth and divine wisdom in this age makes it a true-godsend from one united with the Lord. Reading it a few months ago, I couldn't help but realize how all the people in our world could enlarge their realm of happiness with the tinge of divine sweetness by grasping this book's eternal essence and practicing its doctrines to lead one to soul freedom. Meditation on the Lord is our eternal birthright and duty, without it, that "something" else will never appear. Please, I urge anyone to read this book and practice the science of Kriya Yoga. Give it a try, for a day, a week, or month; however longer you persevere the effects of harmony will increase. I speak from my practical experience, to those that scoff at the possibility of the human soul and vitalism, I ask then, what do we then live for? A hundred hours of sensual satisfaction can not dare compare to the gentle aura of soul bliss one can experience during attempts at God-communion. When we once realize the eternal soul as Paramahansaji states, that something else has been realized.

Set aside your beliefs and pre-suggested notions of life for one moment, spend a few dollars for eternal knowledge that will unlock the door to the realm of infinite bliss, and you will see the practicality of the book will in itself lead you to seeking more. In that pursuit, you will find yourself!

The original 1946 edition will win your heart
I've read Yogananda's Autobiography of a Yogi many times, but it wasn't until I read the original 1946 edition by Crystal Clarity, Publishers that I stumbled across many of Yogananda's original teachings that have been erased by the Self-Realization Fellowship Publishers long after his death. In the 1946 original edition, you can read about Yogananda's aims and ideals for world brotherhood colonies as a solution to societal ills, his desire to spread "kriya yoga" to all sincere truthseekers, and his many powerful words which echo his love for all mankind and ALL people, despite their religious affiliation. There is a special vibration in the original that you won't find in later editions. Read it yourself, and see for yourself if you don't somehow "feel different" reading Yogananda's own words, un-tainted by any additional hyperbole meant to "rope you in" to any particular organization. Yogananda's words are non-sectarian, universal, meant for any and ALL OF US. This book will change your life and give you hope, no matter where in the world you live. I cannot recommend any other book that expresses so completely the secrets of the universe, life, death, and reincarnation so beautifully and truthfully.

A SPIRITUAL REVELATION and Modern Legacy.
Paramahansa Yogananda, a modern 20th century Yoga Master, who is living example of all that he wrote about, shows the reader a new and balanced approach to the spiritual life. He makes it clear, practical and sensible as well as appealing. You won't be able to put it down till it's finished. The recent editions with the orange covers, are His most up to date editions, which also includes the 49th chapter, and enhancemets made by Him and his appointed editors in chief before and after 1952. These most recent editions also give the reader a very complete view to Yogananda's final meanings.

This truly remarkable autobiography will help the reader understand the purpose of life and how to reach true fulfillment.

This work gives the reader an excellent overview of comparative religion and how to appreciate all true prophets and creeds.

Paramahansa Yogananda established the Self-Realization Fellowship to represent Babaji's line of Masters and disseminate his teachings and Kriya Yoga world-wide.

Also recommended: "God Talks With Arjuna", see Pages 426 & 427 where Yogananda makes the above declaration clear. --This text refers to the paperback edition of this title
