Tells the rest of Canton's story
Frank Canton was sheriff of Buffalo, Wyoming in the 1880s and during the Johnson County War. Later he was a Deputy US Marshal in Oklahoma Territory, rising to high rank in Oklahoma law enforcement. He wrote an autobiography titled "Frontier Trails" that is a classic of western adventure about his life as a western lawman. Only, Frank Canton completely left out a significant part of his life history--his real name was Joe Horner and he was a convicted bank robber and murderer from Texas who had escaped from prison.

Alias Frank Canton fills in the blanks Canton left in his story, and does it very well. The reading was interesting and appeared to have been very well researched.

A valuable resource
As a medical student (who happened to have the author for a professor), this atlas proved to be a valuable resource. The sections provide an alternative perspective on anatomy that will be extremely useful when interpreting radiological films. A great teaching tool for gross anatomy.

Black Whiteness: Admiral Byrd Alone in the Antarctic
Burleigh recounts a brief but traumatic period of RichardByrd's life based upon Byrd's diary and book "Alone." Foralmost six months, Byrd observed and recorded the Antartic night, while based in a manmade tunnel where temperatures could drop to 60 degrees below zero. What could the man have been thinking about? The intense cold and dark are nicely illustrated by Krudop's somber colors. A good initial introduction, for the younger reader, to the life of Admiral Byrd.

interesting
This collection of unfinished stories was very interesting. It's very cool to know these unfinished tales. This product is not quite as good as the original Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer novels but is defenately a good collection. Some of the stories aren't as good as others but there are several that are very good.

Excellent Anthology
This book is an excellent anthology. The editors have taken pertinent selections from ancient writings and grouped them into subjects involving the New Testament. Examples of the sub-groupings are The History of the Jews; The Religious Life of the Jews; Jesus Outside of the New Testament; and Romans-Galatians. The selected writings include authors such as Josephus, Philo, Suetonius, Origen, and Justin Maryr. I agree with the book's editors that this collection of readings will enable those with a limited background in ancient literature to obtain a sense of those times and the New Testament. In addition, this anthology is an inexpensive way of possessing a good selection of ancient writings. This book is perfect for new students and personal theological libraries. This book would not be of interest to the advanced theological professional.

Schneider-Dickey's Reinforced Masonry Design
This book is the bible of reinforced masonry design. It has a fantastic amount of information useful for architects and engineers. I was somewhat disappointed to find that the book for sale here is actually a reproduction of the original, and is a paperback.

Robert Potter, Founder of the Texas Navy
Published in Hardcover by Pelican Pub Co (1901)
Authors: Ernest Fischer, Earnest G. Fischer, and Stephen L. Walter
Amazon base price: $19.95
Collectible price: $52.94
Average review score:

A MUST-HAVE BOOK FOR ANYONE INTERESTED IN THE TEXAS NAVY
Ernest Fischer did an excellent job of blending information about the personal and political life of a largely overlooked Texas patriot. Fischer has managed to keep the book both intersting and factual from the standpoints of Potter's womanizing personal life and his firebrand political life in early Texas, using primary references. Like the other founders of the Republic of Texas, Potter's life had rough spots that many would see as flaws. After being kicked out of the U.S. House of Representatives for castrating two men suspected of dallying with his wife, and displaying other personal character flaws Potter went to Texas for a new start in life. Fischer details how much Potter contributed to the formation of the government of the new Republic and the organization of its Navy.

Fischer has provided the researcher in Texas Navy history with many little known but important facts not likely to be found in other published books. It is also very readable by both researcher and lay reader, written in an elegantly simple yet factual style.

I would rate this book with four and a half stars if it were possible. This book is a must-have for anyone researching the Texas Navy, or just looking for an interesting read on what life and politics were like in early Texas.

Good job explaining fundamentals
This book is a great introduction into the fundamentals of logic explaining terms and the different types of reasoning (moral, scientific,...) very clearly. It is easy to read, but contains a level of sophistication that most introductory logic books do not achieve. It is essential reading to all aspiring liberal arts students regardless of whether or not they plan to focus on philosophy.
