A most solemn discourse.
This book is unforgettable after you've read it.It haunts you and leaves you feeling light and so at peace with yourself. The best way of enjoying this book is to give it to someone that you know is in difficulty and needs to find a source of energy within Himself to carry on. This is THE proof of Love..

changed my life
I was given this book over 25 years ago. My life then was like the northern european weather - prone to long grey periods with the occasional patch of sunlight. Stranger By the River is a book of the heart. It transcends religious denominations as easily as time itself. Wherever your Spiritual Path takes you, this book will ensure you have plenty of light and sound to show you the way. I read a chapter at a Catholic funeral of an old friend not so long ago. Amongst others, even the Priest wanted to know who wrote the words. They are indeed a gift of love.

Travel Guide
This may be the all time best Travel Guide. What is really fantastic about this book is not necessarily the Specific places it describes, but the doors it opens that leads you to a Greater understanding of the whole of GOD (Sugmad). Another great factor is it even introduces You to a guide (Mahanta) who can assist you in your journeys, right now!

The Greatest Spiritual Text of all time
I have hundreds of books on philosophy and religion, and this is Easily my favorite book of all time. Profound and beautiful in meaning and descriptions of the higher planes of existence. I have read this dozens of times, and it has served as a guide to my own spiritual journey. If you have not read this book, open your mind and heart to God and read this.... this will direct you onto the next level of your journey to God.

DARE TO EXPLORE!
Paul Twitchell's 'The Tiger's Fang' has exposed some of the most hidden secrets of God. Secrets that were only passed in the most sacred and revered sanctums, always from Master to the most worthy of students. Knowledge concealed in elaborate ceremonies, trappings, symbols and a life-times maze of deliberate false leads. This book is presented as a sublime dialogue between Chela and Master, an inner journey that is distinctly Twitchells'. A detailed and graphic description and road map to the inner worlds of God. Twitchell opines that this inner journey may differ from person to person depending on the prerogative of the Guide and Spiritual Master. These guides are souls that have traversed the road to the deepest Heavens, and whose only concern is to assist us in realising our God-like nature throughout eternity. Gods in their own right, they belong to no religion, race, nor social persuation. Forget the stiffling ignorance of orthodox religion, this is the most sought-after acrane knowledge presented to you litrarily on a platter of gold. The idea is to doubt this knowledge, then prove it to yourself, your expiriences will then become a basis of your authority as you gradually join this species of Homo'immortalis'. Dare to explore your self!!

Guidebook to the God Worlds for the Lewis & Clarks of Spirit
Like Arne Saknussemm's fictional manuscript pointing to his journey to the mythical center of the Earth, the Eckankar Lexicon reads like a guidebook to the very real inner worlds of Spirit by the Master guide (the Mahanta). Along the path there are Wayshowers (Eck Masters), Guideposts (planes) and Way Stations(Temples of Golden Wisdom).

The material ranges from the familiar (Soul, God, detachment)to the esoteric (Atma, Sugmad, vairag). There are often numerous cross-references for each entry, leading one who follows the trail on to deeper and deeper layers.

It makes an excellent companion to the Shariyat (the Eck Scriptures) or as an ongoing journey of its own. Also recommended the Shariyat-Ki-Sugmad Bk. I, the Rosetta Stone of God and Stranger by the River.

HAUNTINGLY FAMILIAR YET UNIQUE AND NEW!
This is a spiritual dictionary providing an easy quick reference source of esoteric sacred words and concepts. A beautiful presentation of timeless, ageless wisdom. Simply written. Hauntingly familiar, yet unique and new. Sing some of the words aloud? Contemplate or meditate on a few?A spiritual knowledge enhancer. An illuminating way to begin or end a day. I am intrigued by the description of Temples of Golden Wisdom, pg 207.

A Great Way To Explore Your Inner Worlds!
This lexicon, among other things, is a tremendous guide to the people and places we find when we travel within ourselves. So very few religious texts describe the higher heavens in very much detail. This book offers specifics about each level of Soul's existence, and a plethora of words you can chant in contemplation to see what you can see for yourself!

The Esoteric and the Intellectual
I recently found the last chapter very helpful in putting mental illness into a spiritual perspective. I come back to it every few years for its depth of wisdom. Ahead of its time, it may one day be seen as one of a few seminal books for the dawn of the New Age spiritual movement. I'd say it's for the serious spiritual seeker.

thought provoking and significant
Of all the books I have read in the misty world of the paranormal, this book reveals the most significant and meaningful insights into the human conciousness. It gives the hows and whys concerning the development of our everyday conciousness.

It shows how a state of conciousness forms and how to change it. The information in this book can enable a person to effectively improve his state of mind. And it does so in a very positive way. Although some of the concepts and language are difficult to grasp, the underlying meaning becomes apparant to the reader in short order.

What are you capable of?
This book has the keys to unlock potential that most people can't even imagine. IF you know your self to be a spiritual being this may very well be the book that awakens you to your higher potential.

Tools for Direct Personal Experience
Paul Twitchell's book reveals practical tools that have helped me have amazing direct experiences with Spirit. How refreshing it is to read someone who gives techniques and information without some mystical mumbo-jumbo. The Flute of God is the real thing for people who want to begin directly connecting with Spirit and to discover our higher nature as Soul. The sections on the creative imagination are simply astonishing.

A Spiritual milestone.
Eckankar: The key to secret worlds, is a landmark in the history of reilgious literature. One of the earlier texts of an astounding and prolific Religious leader-Paul Twitchell. An enigma at a time when very few existed in religious circles. A comprehensive text of the doctrine of the New-Age Religion, Eckankar. For the serious student of religion and spirituality, it presents an invaluable compass on the road to God and Heaven. With this book, Paul Twitchell secured the continuity of the teachings of Eckankar as an exacting spiritual discipline ,universally reproducible and THE authority on God and the Inner worlds.

Ushered in a new period of holistic health consciousness
Written in the '60s, this book played a major role in elevating the consciousness of mankind to realize that the herbs under our feet do and have offered incredible healing capabilities. It's as if God put everything we need within our grasp. Herbs - The Magic Healers is a Key to this great knowledge. For example -- I've been using Leptotaenia Dissecta -- "Sacred Root" (pg 81) for the last 6 years to cure (and I mean CURE) colds and flu. It has never failed to stop the flu dead for myself, frieds, family.

This book offers solutions to health, longevity and spriritual well being for those with open hearts and open minds. I am truly thankful for this great gift of spiritual yet practical wisdom.

This wonderful book helped me in many ways
This new edition has been updated by A. Stuart Wheelwright, a master herbalist, nutritionist and biochemist. I received most of my help from the earlier edition when I first began to explore herbs as healing tools. I will give three examples of ways in which I was helped. I have been working in a high stress electonic data base area of my company and sometimes suffered from what I called 'brain fog'. I tried many different solutions and finally settled on a herb called Fo-ti-teng. My mental 'sharpness' is clear and I do not suffer from 'brain fog' when I am taking this herb. I found a local store that sells it in bulk so it is not even expensive. I only found reference to this herb in Herbs The Magic Healers. The other help that I received was with my annual winter skin cracking. There is a lot of information on 'tissue cell salts'in the book. Calcarea Fluorica helped with my skin when many visits to the doctors did not. I had a high PSA test result. My doctor told me that I had prostate cancer. I read through Herbs... and took several different things that I thought would work for me. My urologist got very angry when I told him what I was taking. 6 months later PSA = 0. That was 5 years ago. I cannot recommend this book more highly.

An excellent book about herbs and how they effect you.
HERBS: The Magic Healers by Paul Twitchell is an excellent book about herbs!

I found it amazing that so much information can be packed into a book! Hundreds & hundreds of different herbs are mentioned and how they can help you. This book also explains how herbs can help to heal you. What is really remarkable is that this book also talks about how herbs and foods can impact on you spiritually. There is a spiritual quality to the book that is amazing!

I recommend this book for anyone who is interested in their health!

A Fascinating Guidebook to Inner Worlds &Higher Awareness
Glad to discover that amazon.com carries this book! I enjoyed it immensely when I first read it 26 years ago. I last read it 12 years ago, so take that into account, but I really think it's content is timeless. Twitchell writes about various spiritual principles (most of which are addressed by all religions in one way or another) that can be applied in daily life. He looks at these in a fresh way and offers some concrete possible answers for what I believe are common nagging questions of spiritual seekers. For example: What are dreams, really? Just how do I contact Divine Spirit, or the force for which all religions have a name? (Names like the Holy Spirit, the Word of God, the Bani, the Light, the Sound, and the Shabda -- the list goes on. It even pops up in the "Star Wars" movies as the Force. Eckankar -- a relatively new outer-world religion but an ancient teaching many thousands of years old -- calls the Spirit "the Eck," a word evolved from the Greek or Sanskrit Ek meaning the One Oneness or, simply, One.)

Twitchell and Eckankar consider Spirit to be tangible to us as both light (the burning bush of the Christian scriptures, for example) and as sound (the celestial symphony referred to in the scriptures of nearly all religions). They teach ways to experience it and benefit from contact with it.

Twitchell offers thought-provoking information, some of which some readers may find fantastical or unbelievable. He writes about inner spiritual masters, whom he encountered sometimes outwardly, and inwardly during contemplations and dreams. I tried his first contemplative technique and quickly got results, meaning I experienced concrete help in my outer life by calling upon these "spiritual travelers." He also provides easy "spiritual exercises (contemplations you can use from five to 20 minutes) to gently open the third eye in the lower-to-middle forehead. This is to gradually connect more clearly with Spirit and with our own inner guidance and knowingness (my words). I practiced the techniques and found them effective in increasing my decision-making ability and sense of sureness about directions and choices and values. There are too few books our there for those of us who have wondered all our lives about God, about the truth of our human and spiritual nature, and about the greater universes and our dreams. I thought this book opened up access to these other worlds and levels of consciousness.

The book is not always technically well written. At some point, Twitchell was apparently writing several books at once on various typewriters, and his writing style may have suffered for it. However, that didn't detract from the enjoyment of reading or the value of the book for me. If a little rough writing doesn't offend you, it's worth the time of any serious spiritual seeker. At the very least, it will add some valuable new concepts to your biocomputer reference files, and fill in a few holes!

A personal footnote: before I was given this book, my friend mentioned the names of some of the masters written about in the book. Strangely to me at the time, I knew how to pronounce and spell their names. Strange because they were names such as Yaubl Sacabi, Fubbi Quantz, and Rebezar Tarz! I later realized I studied with these masters in the dream state or a past life. For some of you, this may start to touch on the "fantastical" I mentioned.

Yet another quintisential Paul Twitchell.
I first read Eckankar: The key to secret worlds by Paul Twitchell 13 years ago.I was then 16 and in my first year in Medical school. I remember that I almost virtually finished the volume on the spot. Was it possible that this depth of knowledge existed? Where were his curious heirachy of Eck Masters all this time when I was searching for answers to questions on God, Heaven, Death and dying.Could I meet them on my own volition? Paul Twitchell also speaks authoritatively of Heaven, a concept so familiar to the majority of us yet so distant. In ECKANKAR, KEY TO THE SECRET WORLDS Paul provides the proof to his claims- in simple, easy to follow Spiritual Excersises.Like all other great writings on God and the spiritual, the proof lies in the experience, since there are no scientific instruments to universally reproduce a spiritual experience. It's therfore noteworthy that this book and others by Twitchell remain Spiritual compasses in these times where the pace of life makes for little or no time for things spiritual. No matter your religious persuation, THIS BOOK HAS SOMETHING TO OFFER YOU.

This book literally changed my life!
I first read this book almost thirty years ago, and have read and studied it many times since. Yet this book still gives me fresh insights whenever I pick it up.

It is about ECKANKAR, but provides many universal truths that can be of benefit to anyone seeking a greater understanding of Soul and of God. Beyond this it gives actual techniques of how to Soul Travel in the spiritual worlds.

This book was one of the pioneers in bringing out what had mostly been secret spiritual exercises. Today out-of-body travel has become common knowledge and widely accepted. Paul Twitchell's focus was on teaching these abilities as an aid to self discovery of our true spiritual nature.

It's a fascinating look at, and ways to access realms of consciousness beyond this world.
