If you are the kind that loves to read books on homeletics then this is a book you do not want to miss. Spurgeon has some very interesting ideas I guess because there were no microphones back then, so consequently if you did not have a big lung and a thundering voice capacity that you should not enter preaching, or that you are not called, something to that effect, but of course nowadays things are different. Just skip that kind of oppinion and this book has some powerful insights on the need for a preacher to live a pure life, to pray and love his people.

Just wanted to make a quick and hopefully useful note to potential customers (rather than a review of this otherwise outstanding work): I realize the Editorial Reviews state that this version of "Lectures to My Students" is complete and unabridged, but unfortunately this is not the case. You'll instead want ISBN 1-56186-100-6 for the true "complete and unabridged" book (which Amazon seems to carry).

At least the first chapter anyway. The first thing he tells his students in this book is to watch out for your own soul- i.e. see to it that you are a partaker in Whom you are preaching. An exellent book, a little much on the interjection of Latin phrases for this day and age, but still worthy of five stars.

If you're a moose-aphile, then this is your book! Every aspect of the moose is covered and includes great pencil drawings and photos. While written for scientists, most of the book is still quite readable for the layperson. I haven't read most of the book, but I do thumb through it regularly, and I always read something else that I never knew about the moose!

I would like to take this oportunity to thank all of the people/scientists, biologists, volunteers, etc. who helped put this awesome book together. The information in this book is coming from hands-on time consuming experience. This book is truly a mooselover's bible. I hold the men and women who devote their lives to researching this beautiful animal in the hightest respects. I just hope someday I may be part of the group of people contributing their knowledge into a future book as great as this one. I would like to say a special hello and thank you to the people of the Moose Research Center (MRC) at Kenai Peninsula, Alaska. I hope to be offered the wonderful opportunity of being able to volunteer at MRC. Moose and this book combined have opened up whole new doors to life's avenues for me. This is a very good book and also an excellent source for a research paper. I am a senior history major, and I found it to be very informative as well as entertaining.

Recently transplanted to Vermont, I wanted to know more about the man whose namesake is lent to everything from tourist motels to air guard squadrons to think-tanks. Jellison's narrative paints a balanced portrait of a man whose legacy among latter-day Yankees approaches sainthood. This book tells the complete story (with due reverence where applicable) while resisting the urge to canonize. Jellison provides ample historical context to help armchair historians understand the motives and context behind the events. Very readable...a scholarly work unburdened by tangential footnotes and obscure allusions. Includes an index, a map, and a chapter-by-chapter bibliography.

Without self-pity nor malice Gilberg writes of a challenging childhood with two dysfunctional parents. This is far more than a retelling of this family's painful history; it's a book that encourages any reader to look into the deeper reality of the events in their family's life enabling reconciliation and healing to result. Gilberg's honest sharing, laced with love and respect for her father, left this reader glad to have "met" this
man. I like him. And it's a book that will bring some understanding and peace regarding our involvement in Vietnam which I also found helpful.

This is a terrific book, one that works into the memory from a series of photos and a set of fixed memories of a difficult man and a difficult childhood. it's so much more than a tale of dysfunction though. Its the elegant tale of a survivor, of a little girl and a nation.

This book is not getting the attention it deserves!

This is an excellent introduction to the works of one of the greatest French composers of the 20th century. It originated as a PhD thesis, and an academic bias is discernable, mostly in the depth of the musical analyses and the emphasis on the music rather than the man. Nonetheless, the book isn't just for academics -- it's easy to read and entertaining.

The only major problem with the book is its age (early 60's). Despite this, it remains THE English-language source about Albert Roussel

There is a new wind blowing through the CMA and it is a wind that actually is blowing us back to our roots. This book tells us what we never really knew. I reccomend it for anyone who wants to understand the heriatage of the CMA.

a beautifully designed and conceived work that lays out some of the more important articles ever written on the subject of Westerners' interpretations on the meanings of psychoactives.

The reader is easily entertained and enriched by well-informed, educated voices who take it one step further by offering philosophical insights into the experiences - not just a
play-by-play of what happens.

The voices, while varied in education levels and mindsets, magically interweave, creating a theme decidedly organic and profound.

One of the nice things about this work is the reader's ability to pick up the reading just about anywhere and glean instant nuggets of enlightenment that shall brighten many days.

The world could use more works like this.

This book is one of my favorites. It presents the history of the Jewish people in a interesting and readable manner. I recommend it to anyone who has an interest in the Old Testament, especially people who are studying the Old Testament for the first time. It really helps put things in a proper historical perspective.

Even if you're not enrolled in a psychology class, you may still want to read this text. Its lively writing style and reader-friendly interface make it easy for ANYONE to learn about how humans work. Although it lacks the cartoons and "wow" of Myers' text, I believe this is still one of the most authoritative psychology textbooks on the market.

At my school we use this textbook for our AP Psychology class. It is very clear and understandable, a great introduction to Psychology.

First of all, I am a computer scientist and I picked this book without taking a course. I was reading books like "Your erroneous zones", "Too much control", "Do what you are" and some others like those, when I decided I wanted have a deeper understanding of psychology.

This book is great. I was first surprised to discover there was much more to psychology than Freud, Jung and the psychoanalysis. Just look at its table of contents.

The discrete math course at our university is a sort of "rite of passage" for math majors- it introduces students to the idea of proofs, as well as basic set and graph theory and combinatorics. It is an introduction to the abstract aspect of mathematics. This book serves this purpose well, with a number of examples and drawings to illustrate concepts. However, this book explained induction in a manner that confused me. Also, our department wasn't too fond of this book- they switched to another after one semester. Still, I don't think it's too bad- unless the current book that the department uses is that much better.

As a student at Illinois state, I'm skeptical about all of the professors abilities... After all, these are the guys that consistently screw up addition in front of class.

After having a chance to complete half of this book in my Discrete Math course (mind you, I'm not a math major) I have definitely gained respect for ISU's math department.

I'm not sure if most authors really teach classes, or if they write books to fulfill their publishing requirements. I can tell you that the authors of Discrete math had the students in mind.

I've found this book to have exceptional examples, and well-explained, READABLE prose.

If you wanted to pick up a copy for self study, this would be a good book.... Yes a professor would be nice, but these guys did a good enough job that the book stands alone.

I am not a maths student but I used this book (the 4th edition) as a supplement for my combinatorial chemistry course and also my CRE course which has a section on spanning tree model. Quite easy to understand. Not bad as a reference for self-studying.
