Promises
Back Cover description: All the village assumed that Margo Pearson was to marry George, but unexpectedly meeting Professor Gijs van Kessel made her pause for thought. But being a plain, practical girl, Margo knew the professor was most unlikely to look her way. It took a tragic accident to bring an offer of marriage--from the professor. It was a practical proposal, but as Margo was taken into the bosom of his family over Christmas in Holland, she did wonder whether he might, someday, return her love...

This is one of the better Ms. Neels' stories. Margo is not a doormat, and the professor is not as stoic as some of the other male characters have been. The story moves along nicely and you do get a little teary towards the end.

The Vicar's Daughter
This is a great book, I couldn't put it down until I read the last page. Betty Neels is a wonderful writer not only with this book but all of her books.

Neels doesn't disappoint with this one.
This was a wonderful read. As with most of Betty Neels books, I couldn't put it down. Of course you know the outcome, but the story is so sweet as you read along that you keep coming back for more. A very good quick read, and I highly recommend it.

Nurses rule!
Back Cover description: "You want me?" Caroline Frisby was right for the job--after all, she'd established an excellent rapport with the little boy while he was in the hospital in England. It only made sense that she be the one to supervise Marc's recovery back home in Holland. But was she the right girl for the man? Marius van Houben, the boy's uncle, was rich, attractive and successful--and very single. He could have any girl he wanted. What were the chances that he would want her? Caroline knew that they were one in a million.

Heart-warming story as usual. Great lead characters, the plot moves and a happy ending, what more could you want.

Very endearing book!

She cooks, cleans and types-my kind of woman.
The reviewer from Decatur, GA has described the plot. This is another good story from Betty Neels. It's just about the same plot--doctor, plain girl, beautiful villan(ess). The descriptions of England, Holland, and the various foods eaten are always interesting. All I can say against it is there is no sex, but that's not why I read Ms. Neels--I read them because most of the time the heroine is plain and she gets the prince.

Let's hear it for nice country girls with sharp tongues !
Cover: The doctor meets his match .....
Patience Martin is a county girl with a sharp tongue and absolutely no interest in the latest fashions. She's hardly the sort of woman who normally attracts the attention of wealthy Dutch surgeon Julius van der Beek!
But something about Patience makes her stand out - and it isn't just because they were snowbound together. Not that it means he'll fall in love with her - not with the glamorous Sylvia van Teule making it clear she expects to become his wife ....
This is yet another of Betty Neels' charming tales of a brave, practical loving heroine who is living with two elderly aunts and making a living as best they can after suffering a severe setback in financial circumstances. Patience is a no-nonsense compassionate hard-working woman whose capabilities are finally recognized and appreciated by the Hero. You will be charmed by the heroine's love for her aunts and the way she protects them from the unpleasant aspects of their current life. You will laugh out loud when the adorable tyke involved in the story sticks out her tongue at the widow stalking our hero! :)

Autopilot Fun
I always find it comforting reading Betty Neels books. The heroines are nurturing, plain, hardworking English girls and the Hero's are Handsome Doctors with good breading, loads of money and very restrained passions.

This book pretty much follows that pattern. It's a sweet romance and a fun read.

the best book
i was 20 when i first read this book it not only captured my mind but also my soul

A Sweet Romance!
This novel is a very sweet romance. I prefer strong character development and actual romance to heaving bosoms and inappropriate-for-time-period morals, so this is right up my alley.

Betty Neels has written many doctor-nurse romances (or doctor-typist, in this case). Charity is a typist at a hospital who is hired by Dr. Wyllie-Lyons, a reserved and gentlemanly doctor. While working for him, they fall in love and enjoy a gentle, old-fashioned courtship. While Charity is a bit too much of a dependent character for my tastes, the book is still very cute. The characters could be a bit stronger, but overall this book was a fun way to pass an afternoon.

It is so cute!!!!
Did you ever have one of those days, you just needed a pick me up? This is the perfect book. The story flows so smoothly, you just can't put it down. In typical Betty Neels style, there's nothing to make you blush, it is a wonderful romantic love story that makes you smile and wish all men could be like this one. She adds humor with a gentle touch, you just want to grab all her books, your most comfy clothes, and curl up for the day.

A sweet tale
As are most of Betty Neels' books, this is a sweet and light romance that runs a little toward the antiseptic in his romance, but still satisfying enough to recommend. Krijn is an emminent doctor who is attempting to write a book on bile ducts, Beatrice is a nurse who is mousy and plain and is resigned to a spinster life ahead. However, she meets the good Professor and falls for him almost immediately. The professor, notoriously absentminded, takes a little longer to catch on, and proposed a marriage of convenience. Beatrice, happy to take him however she can get him, agrees to it and secretly plans to convince him to make the marriage a real one. It take the entire book to make Krijn come to his senses, and realize he's just as crazy about her as she is about him, but along the way its a good story. I felt often sorry for Beatrice, obviously used to being ignored but really hungering for her husband to take notice of her, and I wanted often to shake Krijn and yell at him to open his eyes. But the characters are both likeable, and you really get interested in their romance despite the shortcomings. A high recommendation here.

I liked the book.
An Unlikely Romance is Another good book written by my favorite romance book author Betty Neels, I really enjoyed reading it and I liked the characters a Dutch guy named Krijin Van der Brink-Schaaksma and an English lady named Beatrice Doveton. This book is a keeper.

A Christmas Romance Book Good Enough to Keep!
I love to read Christmas romance books and this one from Betty Neels was a joy to read and a keeper! Emmy Foster is a nice girl who works as a telephonist at St. Luke's Hospital to help with her families finances, at the Hospital she meets Professor Ruerd ter Mennolt a handsome neurologist from Holland, she is bringing him a message from his secretary because the secretary is late for a date with her boyfriend but Professor ter Mennolt who is very busy is not happy with the interruption and lets Emmy know that but later on the two become friends and Emmy often speaks her mind to the impatient professor who can't understand why as he has a beautiful fiance named Anneliese he can't stop thinking about Emmy as she is plain in looks and slightly plump and he invites her to spend Christmas with him in his home in Holland where you get to see that Emmy really is the right girl for him and Anneliese is a big phoney and she is a cruel and catty snob who is completely wrong for him. A good word to describe Anneliese is the B wrd that rhymes with witch! Also mentioned in this book are Guy Bowers-Bentinck and his wife Suzannah who first appeared in The Chain of Destiny which is my favorite book from Betty Neels I highly recommend this book, it's a keeper and so is The Chain of Destiny!

A Christmas Romance
Emmy wants to be friends with everyone, even with an arrogant, foreign doctor. Ruerd first starts to give Emmy the brush off, but soon he wants to make her life better. He says he doesn't have feelings for her, but... Also Emmy asks a question to herself: why does this man make my emotions soar, whenever he is around? The answer to her question lies in A Mistletoe Kiss.

It's a Great Book!
The Mistletoe Kiss is a Christmas themed book written by Betty Neels who is one of my favorite writers of romance stories, it is a very good book about a young English lady named Ermentrude Foster but everone calls her Emmy and a Dutch doctor named Ruerd ter Mennolt, the setting of the book is in England and The Netherlands.

Vintage Neels
Betty Neels is in my opinion one of the best Harlequin romance authors and she clearly deserves to be. A winter love story is a traditional tale about Claudia Ramsay who is offered a proposal of marriage by Dr.Tait-Bullen. A marriage of companionship not love. But with the passing of time, will they grow fonder of each other? Betty has penned a traditonal romance which as the other reviewer said, seems to belong in another era. However, though you can't fail to keep turning the pages and close the book with a sigh of content.

From companionship to love.
Claudia Ramsay first met Thomas Tait-Bullen when he came to consult on her Great Uncle William's health. Subsequent meetings after William's death leads Thomas to propose marriage, believing Claudia would make a most suitable companion.

A nice gentle tale that rings of another time. No sexual hijinks, but a satisfying read, filled with Neels' exquisite use of language and vibrant descriptions. One of the best writers in the old, but still popular subgenre of sweet romance. She never fails to elicite a deep sigh of content from me and is a nice change from the intensity of my other favorites, such as Diana Palmer.

THESE BOOKS ARE KEEPERS
Books by Betty Neels can be read by your daughters.
Based loosely on her own love story - her stories never fail to cement one's belief in real love.
Love seems to sneak up on her male characters while most of the time her ladies are more than willing to fall in love.

And when Mr. Thomas Tait-Bullen nearly loses his self control you know there is hope as he continues to watch his wife at the Christmas party. You can almost feel his emotion.
Keep her books - they make a wonderful addition to your library.

Cinderella in the emergency room
Back Cover description: "You have no family, no home and no prospect of marrying." That might be true, but Venetia Forbes didn't see her situation as any reason to accept Professor Duert ter Laan-Luitinga's prosaic proposal! But after tasting champagne for the first time in her life, Venetia was astounded to hear herself saying yes. "My ward needs an example of a contented, harmonious marriage." Without love Venetia was convinced their marriage might be anything but harmonious by the time young Anneta went to her aunt in America! And what would happen to their marriage then?

This is another typical Betty Neels story-doctor and nurse, but I liked the way the plot moved, and the love grew between them. Though at times Duert's character could be annoying. Why a wife, why not a governess? Venetia's character was quiet and shy, but not a doormat. And the ending was slightly different--the doctor gets jealous.

It was the beginning of a beautiful relationship
This was the book that started me on the Betty Neelscollection. I enjoyed it very much.

ORDINARY GRAY EYES ARE THE WINDOWS OF THE SOUL
BACK COVER: The professor made it very clear.... "You have no family, no home and no prospect of marrying," Duert ter Laan-Luitinga told Venetia, as if she wasn't fully aware of her precarious position.
His solution to the problem took her by surprise. Marriage - to him ! Not a love match, of course, but a marriage of convenience.
Venetia should have rejected him but strangely found herself agreeing - hoping with all her heart that the stranger she was marrying would one day grow to care for her - as much as she loved him.

This is another of Neels' wonderful stories about a lovely, compassionate woman making her way in the world all alone. She loses the last of her family and faces little prospect of sharing her vast reserves of compassion and kindness with anyone other than her patients. Though she considers herself plain and unremarkable, the doctor has better instincts. It may take him a while to admit all of what he has gained, and how deeply he cares, but he takes care of her and protects her from the first moment they meet. He finally proves his ability to judge true beauty and character from an ordinary pair of loving gray eyes !
This is a true Betty Neels staple romance and will greatly satisfy loyal readers as well as indoctrinating and enslaving new readers of her work.
