Book shows why Neel Reid was one of greatest of the South.
The book gives history and insight on his life and follows his working history from Macon to Florida to Atlanta. His attention to detail is pointed out in many chapters and the photography along with the orginal drawings are a good touch. If your looking for some ideas or maybe a facade to copy this would be a excellent book. Most of his houses are timeless designs and the interior views and elevation views are stunning.

Kiss for Julie
This is a sweet and very romantic book about Julie who is a secretary to Simon a doctor.Julie is assigned to work for Simon when her previous boss had to retire. She is reluctant to work for him as she finds him not very friendly and he also at first is not to happy to inherit her.Gradually they find themselves unwillingly thinking about each other and then they fall in love. What is endearing about it is that Betty Neels very skillfully writes about their journey towards falling in love and also what was really nice was that Simon's feelings were also described by this author so making it more enjoyable.

Marrying Mary
Back Cover: "A Perfect Wife ?
Everyone in her family had agreed that Mary Pagett would one day make some man a perfect wife. The problem was that the only man Mary had ever even thought about marrying was eminent Dutch heart surgeon Roel van Rakesma.
From the moment he had walked into her life Mary had become quite contrary - turning from a practical girl into a hopeless romantic. But it had been clear from the start that any attention Professor van Rakesma paid her was purely professional. Professor van Rakesma's only interest was in curing frail hearts, not broken ones !"
This is one of Ms. Neels' most charming books. I have read in over and over with enjoyment. The characters are first rate and all lively and divine in their own right .... from the battle ax old Aunt to the loving but clueless parents to the fashionable selfish woman suitor to the two teenage sisters who assist in any way they can ! :) Enhancing this clever and entertaining tale is the fact that the eminently practical Mary, a selflessly compassionate daughter, much to her annoyance falls in love at first site with the Professor, who is a little slower on the uptake.

A Cinderella Story with pure Betty Neels flair
I have to remember where the story take place for the mother made me upset with her selfishness and telling Matilda that she was the selfish one. It help to enhance the ending. It is definitely a Cinderella story if ever there was one. I enjoyed the way Matilda worked her way in the villagers hearts and into the doctor's as well. I love Betty Neels and trying to collect every book she ever written. I look forward to reading them all.

An "Oldie but Goodie" returns to the bookstores!
This is not one of Neels' earliest books, but it is still one of her best. A good choice for the "Reader's Choice" series! The loving couple in this book shows up again in another one of her books, "A Girl Named Rose," I believe, and it was after reading that book I went back to read this story again(I had it in its original printing). It has the traditional Dutch doctor/English nurse formula, but there were some nice plot twists that livened things up. The character development is good, and the author lets you know why the hero and the heroine appealed to each other, based on their personalities and not just surface things like physical appearance. They were likable characters and made you care about what happened to them. As always, Betty Neels provides a wholesome read. If you are looking for a romance that doesn't make you blush, look no further--try out Betty Neels!

Once for All Time
Back Cover: "Clotilde Collins has worked with Dr. James Thackery at busy St. Alma's Hospital in London for three years, but she's never considered their relationship as anything more than solidly professional.
Then tragedy strikes and James steps in to take charge of Clotilde's shattered world, offering her his unhesitating comfort and support.
How easy it would be to fall in love with him.
Except he's already committed to another woman......"
This is another of Ms. Neels' highly satisfying stories about the tall handsome mature doctor and the warm, devoted competent Sister that has not any idea of his feelings for her. This time the Sister is tall and striking and dating another doctor. But the hero has been very patient and has been a quietly helpful friend. The book also has all the lovely other Neels ingredients such as lifetime servants who are family, wonderful siblings and companion pets.

A joy to behold.
This is in the category of books so elegantly designed as to make one want to strictly buy good-sized hardbound books. It's beautifully laid out with a typefont very friendly to all reasonably able eyes and fits quite comfortably on a lap planted in an easy chair, glueing one there for a good long while until all pages are turned. Half of the pages are text and the rest portrait photography of the chiefs and elders, tastefully laid out with both traditional regalia and contemporary everyday poses. My take on this is that it helps to have some in-depth knowledge of these tribes before attempting to read between the lines of these memoirs. Many of these very ancient folks are no doubt dead by now (since 1991) which adds impact to their impressions of periods of tribal transition. We should all be recording the words of our living elders for the practical use of future generations, as they carry treasures of wisdom and very curious glimpses into times that are unlikely to be seen again. I find oral histories immeasurably fascinating in any case and highly recommend this to anyone with a working interest in Pacific Northwest history.

A "Saturday's Child" myself.....
From the Cover: Abigail was a true 'Saturday's Child'; she worked very hard for her living. And it looked like she could expect to go on earning her own living, for no one seemed to be in any great hurry to marry her - least of all Dominic van Wijkelen, who admired her as a nurse but who seemed to have no personal feeling for her at all - except dislike!
This was a GREAT Betty Neels book! Abigail and Dominic are featured in several other of her books about tall, handsome doctors and the plain-faced nurses who really aren't so plain after all. Locations changed rather frequently for a "Betty book", and we get to see a little of Spain, France and Belgium in addition to the regular England/Holland journey. Good reading! I highly recommend this one!

Great for creating a beautiful (and well-planned) wedding.
This book was wonderful for me because I really wasn't sure where to begin when planning a wedding. It has helpful questionnaires on every topic imaginable; from the very basics-like how to make sure your floral decorations turn out to be a great success, to the things which are most often overlooked-such as how to handle parking at your event and how to make sure this marriage, at this time, is the best thing for both of you. I found this to be a great book because the information in it is effective from the first day you begin to plan the wedding, to the day you are walking down the aisle. Anyone whose recently engaged and thinking "Now what?" will find this book to have all the info needed to make planning a gorgeous wedding quite easy.
