Great 1920-70 Airline Posters
Buying my second copy. Bought my first copy when I read that Jimmy Buffet goes nowhere without his copy. (Buffet owns an Albatros flying boat.) These quality glossy color poster reproductions are frameable and include the great old Pan Am flying boats and other historical, mostly defunct airlines. Was surprised to see the footnotes to the China Airlines posters attributing ownership to Air America/CIA. You don't just look at the posters, you travel with them as you attempt to put them into their "time slot" in history.

a laughing good time
This tiny chap book is a wonder of wit and proverbial wisdom. Having read this so many times, I find myself crossing paths with situations in life that immediately bring many of these epigrams to mind, to the tip of the tongue where they seem to dance so nicely, so succinctly. Laughing fits a many, lends itself to good hysterics. Read it and weap.

Yes, shorebirds ARE beautiful!
Don and Lillian Stokes have taken one of the most difficult-to-identify groups of birds and made the task of differentiating them exponentially easier. Birders of all levels will appreciate this user-friendly, pocket sized book. Stokes Beginner's Guide To Shorebirds is a visually stunning book packed with spectacular photos of all the important shorebird plumages. Characteristic of all of Stokes books, the presentation is logical, clear, and straightforward, with information covering all North American breeding shorebirds.

The easy-to-use color tab system, which groups shorebirds by size and bill length, makes it simple to look up and identify a shorebird. The learning pages with photographic comparison of similar species, helpful comparative silhouettes, and revolutionary method of identification by shape, all will give birders a firm grasp of learning shorebirds.

In addition, the amount of information is impressive, including superb migration maps that show where and when each species can be expected during spring and fall migrations. No previous book has ever graphically shown these birds' migration paths; instead, until now the only way to get this information would have been to wade through countless publications and laboriously extract the relevant details. The Stokes Beginner's Guide to Shorebirds shows me, at a glance, which shorebirds pass through my area and when I should see them.

Beginners will now have an excellent tool to help them begin to master this exciting group of birds. Intermediate and advanced birders will use the beautiful photos of all important plumages, extensive information, and innovative maps to add to their knowledge of shorebirds. Anyone with even a passing interest in shorebirds will want to own this impressive book.

Incredible compilation and explination of the Catholic faith
Years back I decided to convert from Espicopal to Catholic. This book was given to me as a gift. Only recently did I finally open this book and I'm sorry I didn't sooner. In my experiences, the Catholic faith has never been so well compiled and explained. I've been moved by the spirit throughout the readings and come closer to my faith through understanding. I am extremely greatful to the authors for such a wonderful publication. Praise be to God!

A Neat Book - A Great Gift
This is a really neat little book. So much has been written about Thomas Jefferson's life and the building of Monticello that it is hard to find books that offer anything really different. This book is a treasured part of my library for several reasons. The biggest reason is that it offers something unique: a look at the ordinary life of Jefferson. This isn't about the statesman, the president, the revolutionary. It's about the things he loved most: farming and working on his beloved home. The hardcover edition I have is beautiful in appearance, and this little book serves as a nice endtable conversation piece. It's a great gift for history lovers (I received it as a wedding present, believe it or not). In short, I couldn't recommend it more highly.

Living a life in imitation of Christ
Written in the 15th Century and directed towards monks, this is a devotional for Christian living and Monastic life. While noting the time period helps give depth to the historical backdrop of when Thomas was writing this book, it is perhaps more important to know the audience. The intended audience for The Imitation of Christ was monks. This is obvious in the text and it should be kept in mind while reading this work.

This highly influential work has a very simple message: live like Christ. Presented in this book, it is a very strict message. Thomas takes a very strict interpretation of following Christ and the message is very much rooted in the idea of works. It is the actions that one must perform, and not so much the inner state (though he does stress that the inner state is important). This would be a difficult message to take or to give, but again, we must consider the audience: monks living in a monastery. They must live a harsher life and because of their vows, this devotional makes perfect sense.

This can be read as a historical document in Christianity or as a devotional. Either way, one can find great value and and some illumination of the words of Christ through this volume.

Splendid devotional of great historical significance
Thomas a Kempis was medival monk and priest (1380-1471) who served as chronicler of the monastery at Mt. St. Agnes. During his long life of scholarship, he wrote several biographies of church fathers and a number of devotional works. The "Imitation of Christ" remains his most famous work and the one that has best stood the test of time. Indeed, one of the wonderful things about this work is that it reminds us that the life of the mind is not a creature of the Enlightenment. Even during the so-called Dark Ages there were brilliant scholars with a wide knowledge of both scripture and philosophy. Reflecting its vibrant insight into the human condition, the "Imitation of Christ" remains influential on both sides of the Reformation divide. It reportedly was, for example, one of John Wesley's favorite devotionals.

The "Imitation of Christ" is divided into 4 books, each undertaking a basic theme for development. They are, respectively, the Spiritual Life, the Inner Life, Inward Consolation, and the Blessed Sacrament (i.e., the Eucharist). In turn, each book is sub-divided into numerous chapters, each a page or two long. All of which makes the "Imitation of Christ" a useful book for daily devotionals. One can skip around freely within the book, dipping in as the mood strikes. Yet, I think one is well-served by reading it through at least once. Only then does one see Thomas' thought in its fully-developed form. Do be sure to get a good translation. I am fond of the one by Leo Sherley-Price.

Very Good
I used this book to study for my CCDA. I had the Desgining Cisco Networks CD from Cisco, but this covered a lot more. The practice questions were excellent. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent and Complete
I have never been more pleased with this series. The information contained within the DCN is accurate and complete. A must read for anyone taking the DCN test.

Complete exam coverage for CCDA!
Don't ever let it said that there are any good books published that cover the CCDA exam, If you think this true you might want to check out this book and begin to see what information is contained within the700 plus page book.

Starting off with Internetworking technology overview which will cover the OSI model, protocols and topologies. You'll then move to Cisco hardware and software and design fundamentals and documentation.

The once you have comprehended those topics you'll next find LAN design, WAN design, Network Address Design and Architecture design and finish with testing your design. This book is an excellent teaching tools for those people looking for a formal type of training.

The appendix A is a excellent glossary, there is also appendices covering firewalls and DMZ, NT Networks and a 33-page breakdown of the OSI Model. You also have review questions at the end of every chapter.

Also included is a cd-rom that has over 200 questions that can be setup in a timed or adaptive exam. The cd was easy to install and there was no major complications with the install.

An good book
This book contains a lot of good ideas but is extremely repetitive in portions. The authors take an idea and beat it to death. In between they give numerous examples of how they made their "clients" sucessful with each idea...in short every chapter contains a plug for their consulting practice. I guess this is the price you pay for the few ideas you get.

Crime and justice in Victorian England
Readers of British social history might enjoy this work. The first half ("Crime") draws very heavily--perhaps too heavily--from the works of 19th-century writer Henry Mahew. (Oddly, the Amazon listing shows Mahew as co-author, but he is not listed as co-author in the book itself.) We're treated to a detailed description of slum living conditions, criminal scams of the era, cheating on horse races, early pornography, and prostitution. A variety of detailed narratives give the book a personal touch; it's not dry reading. The most astonishing tidbit in this book is that in Victorian London, there was a ratio of one prostitute for every ten adult males!

The second half of the book ("Retribution") covers the jails of the era, police corruption, hangings of wrongly convicted people, and the workings of the court system, spiced with a variety of narratives about actual people. On the other hand, the most irritating feature of the book is that the index lists only names of persons, not topics.

Survival of the Fittest
What a relief to sit comfortably ensconsed in a different century! The author points out the cruelty of everyday life under the reign of Queen Victoria and the futility of the struggle to survive. It should be a lesson to all of us nowadays when we complain about the tough life we have to endure. We have come a long way! While the narration certainly is very interesting, it also seems curiously flat and without a lively soul. Maybe that stems from the fact that much of the book has a few sources only and just seems to copy them. Also, the back and forth of the time frame makes it somewhat incoherent. It would have helped a great deal to include a few maps of London.

HISTORY WITHOUT GLOSS
When historians create their tomes they glorify and even fabricate information in order to make their nation appear as prolific as possible. "Victorian Underworld" is a view of this era of Britain's history that is rarely, if ever, exhibited. It is an overview of the conditions of the underclass, of which, in all contemporary nations are the largest portion of the population. "Victorian England" concentrates on the manner in which the bulk of the population, the 'commoners' either lived their lives or the obstacles the public endeavoured to avoid. The writing style is as enticing as grand fiction which brings an air of titillation to this factual documentation of history.

EXCELLENT
I just want to say this book has been the best help. I am a student of medical terminolgy and it has helped me so much. I recommend this book very highly. Thank you Kim

Loved It!!
I used this book while in school for Medical Assisting and it was so helpful. I still use it to this day when someone in my family tells me what the doctor said in Medical Words and translate it into everyday language for them. It is a hady book to have even if you are not in a profession to need it.

The Second Medical Book I Ever Bought
In 1974 I took a class in medical technique for medical assistants. The teacher had a text to teach yourself medical terminology. I went to Pitt Medical book store while in Oakland and bought this book. I loved it and it came in quite handy as I was hired the same day by a surgeon to manage his office when I went for an appointment. The book is very portable and needs to be revised often as medical advances and new terms come into being. It is very easy to understand, as my degree was to work with children, not manage a doctor's office for which I had five days to learn how to do, and work with terms of a General Surgeon's world. I managed the office quite successfully, never having any experience in the field and I needed to work with medical terms handed to me to record the doctor's work correctly and file insurance forms accurately, a one person operation. This book was very helpful to understand exactly what the surgery was that the doctor did and I learned so much from this book to help me with a job I was little prepared for in advance. I loved my job and I became very interested in medicine, as the doctor embellished anything I wanted more information on that he did. I love this book. Mrs. Symmington
