A Defense from a Contemporary
John Taylor of Caroline's " Defence of the Measures of the Administration of Thomas Jefferson" is a great political defense of Jefferson's first administration from a friend and a contemporary. Taylor eloquently defends the Judiciary Act of 1801, the the war with the Barbary Pirates, the Louisiana Purchase, and the reduction of the national debt. Taylor brilliantly shows what supporters of Jefferson expected by his election, and got it. Economy in governemnt, reduction of the debt, cutting of government employees and the reform of a tyrannical Fedrealist judiciary. For students of Jefferson and Taylor, a great read.

Excellent, clear, and in-depth analysis of waveforms.
This is the best atrial, ventricular, arterial, venous, and pulmonary waveform analysis material that I have read. The material is presented in a clear and logical fashion with instructions for proper interpretation of said waveforms and how to correlate with the ECG. Normal as well as abnormal waveforms are presented. The sample waveform tracings are top-notch and abundent. Application of waveform analysis to the clinical situation is also dealt with. Examples of the material covered: how to read a waves, c waves, v waves; where the edv is acurately measured; respiratory influence on waveforms (mechanical vs spontaneous); ECG correlation to all waveforms; valvular disturbences and how they reflect on the waveforms; practice waveforms; technical considerations; clinical application and treatment of waveforms; and IABP. I highly recommend this to any intensive care clinicians. This is also an excellent resource for educators (nursing or physician) as well as for those who work in the cath lab. James Saine RN CCRN

An astonishing prose stylist
Jeremy Taylor deserves a wider audience than those who are interested only in Christian classics.

He is also a prose stylist of the first water. Read him, and you will see where DeQuincey got his chops. As he warms to the solemn themes about which he writes, his sentences are like great rivers of poetic and exalted language. His experience as a preacher also makes him a great master of the -sound- of words.

Can't wait to see this one. Lilla and Dworkin is like a collaboration between Ken Vandermark and Wynton Marsalis.

Practical, useful, down to earth
This is an excellent book for anyone looking for practical information on marketing research. Lots of case studies that illustrate. COmprehensive in that it covers the topics in marketing research well, but organized and presented in a simple, easy to read format. Well-structured. More practical, less conceptual or theoretical... as it's an "applied approach."

Metaphysical Must Have
This book although close to two millenia old, could have been written today. Its just as relevant today as when it was written. The book is significant in that it does a good job in giving the reader an understanding of what the physical plane of existence is all about. The protagonist is transformed to an ass and through the eyes of the ass sees the world and experiences the world within those limitations. Thru cruelty, perversion, abuse and other misadventures, the formerly well placed narrarator experiences life in a very unique way. The tale then deals with his eventual retransformation to his normal human self and then there is an exposition of the ancient mystery rites. The treatment of the mysteries is broad stroke but interesting tidbits are revealed. I love Taylors works, and even given the dated writting style I much prefer this version. I savored reading this one!

Plato: Cratylus, Phaedo, Parmenides, Timaeus, and Critias (Secret Doctrine Reference Ser.)
Published in Library Binding by Wizards Bookshelf (01 March, 1975)
Authors: Thomas Taylor and Plato
Amazon base price: $27.00

Plato: Cratylus, Phaedo, Parmenides, Timaeus, and Critias.
This is a new edition of the 1793 translation by Thomas Taylor, reset in modern typeface, with Taylor's extensive commentaries, (not included in the 55 Dialogs of 1804) plus Critias added. The original Greek has also been reset, and comprises a substantial portion of the footnotes, which are numerous. The appendix includes a complete listing of all of Taylor's works, which is most useful for students of Neo-Platonism. Being one of the Secret Doctrine Reference Series, the publisher has added a 15 page section of excerpts from the Secret Doctrine by H.P. Blavatsky, concerning Plato. These are quite interesting. The main text has Taylor's introduction preceeding each dialog, and is often necessary due to the abstruse nature of the dialogs. Certainly the Parmenides is one of the most challanging of all philosophical treatises, and is perhaps one reason why Plato continues to facinate us after 2,500 years. Taylor has been criticized by academics devoted to the literal Greek, but his translations are of far greater depth of understanding than say , Benjamin Jowett. If one is enamoured with the appeal to higher mind without the encumberance of dogmatic religion, then Platonic reasoning finds its ultimate expression in Taylor's translations, and this tome is certainly one of the best. There is a frontispiece with Taylor's portrait, attractive plates throughout, a fine binding with gold stamp and red lable spine, and heavy black morroco cloth. Limited to 1,000 numbered copies.

Puritan Bookshelf CD (Volume Ten)

Lightfoot, Taylor and Bates
If you're interested in reformed theology, the Puritan Bookshelf CDs are a great way to get an extensive library of books, lectures and sermons, for very little expense - and without having to search the world for them in libraries and used book stores. Every CD is packed with a wealth of wisdom and biblical instruction that goes far beyond what is generally seen in our day.

Volume Ten contains eleven books; five massive volumes written by three authors of the 17th century, along with six books by more contemporary covenanters.

"The Works of the Reverend and Learned John Lightfoot" abounds with great history lessons of New Testament times. This book includes a full description of the temple and its service, as they stood in the days when Christ was on earth - complete with a detailed, labelled drawing of the temple, done by the author himself.

Among the many valuable lessons in "The Works of the Judicious and Learned Divine, Dr. Thomas Taylor," is an exposition on Eph. 5:15. The author stresses the importance of the Christian walking circumspectly, demonstrating which areas of life this admonition applies to, and how the Christian is to gain the wisdom he needs in order to obey it. In the words of Dr. Taylor, "A circumspect Christian is not so careful for the... tilling, and sowing of his field, the pruning of his trees, the feeding of his cattle; as in fencing the heart against temptation, in sowing the seed of God's Word, in weeding of sin by the roots out of his soul, in feeding and fostering of grace."

"The Works of the late Reverend and Learned William Bates," contains more than thirty sermons on such practical subjects as forgiveness, the fear of God, and the danger of prosperity. Several of the sermons in this book were preached at the funerals of such eminent and godly men as Thomas Manton, David Clarkson and Richard Baxter.

This is only a glimpse of what is available on these wonderful CDs. I can't recommend them highly enough, to anyone who wants to study Protestant Church History from those who were there.

You can see the full listing for all 32 Puritan Bookshelf CDs online, at Still Waters Revival Books. SWRB also lists a similar set of 30 CDs in their Reformation Bookshelf CD series.

Signs of Life Review
The sensitivity of the person shows in his poetry about nursing. The serious ills and problems are dealt with in a professional manner. Nurses are under strains and I am sure that writings like this help the nurse as well as the readers.
