Amazing. There is nothing like it anywhere.
These people are ahead of their time - if you had a chance to catch the Guggenheim retrospective of the same name, you know what I am talking about. In 50 years, more people will know about Arakawa and Gins than right now, but why wait? We need to change the direction of humanity NOW!

This book goes though the vast output of Arakawa and Madeline Gins, from Arakawa's thought-provoking conceptual paintings from the 60's, to their more current philosophies about the body and architectural surround.

The pictures are colorful and vivid, every page is different and exciting. Their newer computer renderings of beautiful organic housing projects will blow you away. When you open a book like this in a room full of people, everyone will gather around you to get a look! When something is different than the norm but still maintains logic and beauty, it naturally attracts people.

Get this book before it becomes a collector's item.

Supplement with The Complete Guide to the Book of Proverbs.
The Complete Book of Bible Literacy is a good introductory level overview of key people and stories from the Bible. It is a combination Who's Who in the Bible, Bible trivia quiz booklet and Bible dictionary. Most quotations are from the King James Version. If you want to get into practical everyday advice from the Bible read THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO THE BOOK OF PROVERBS by Cody Jones. Many of the characters of the Bible are pointed out who illustrate King Solomon's witty observations on human nature. Many of the riddles and mysteries of Proverbs are explored with surprising new answers.

Excellent basic book
This book contains a lot of basic information on Biblical characters, themes, history, etc. Note that this is basic information and it is truly an informational style. It is not a book of dogma but a reference test that defines different ideas, thoughts and traditions. Most items are short and so it lends itself to just picking up and reading an item or two when you have just a minute or two of free time. Or read an item or two each morning or evening. You don't have to follow from beginning to end but can just pick it up and open it to any page and just start reading.
Not in depth by any means, it is just what it purports to be a basic tome on basic Biblical literacy.

Terrific resource! Easy to read.
Mark Taylor's book on biblical literacy is an exceptional reference to biblical people, events, weights and currencies, etc. Taylor's easy-to-read style and well laid-out organization make his book a fantastic resourse. I recommend it!

Clay Target Shooting : The Mental Game
Published in Paperback by MMC Enterprises (27 December, 1997)
Author: Mark H. Taylor

A must read to improve your Game
Having shot clay targets for a few years. The ideas in the book were not out of the blue. The author just layed it out in a clear manner. I especially liked the way in which he list the different level of shooters. So you can get a better feel where you are and what you need to train on.....I would recomend this book to anyone who wants to inprove their score in any of the clay target sport...It is not written for a golfers eyes it is written in a shooters eyes. So the visualization process is easier to see the point ans the Targets turn to Dust.

The only thing missing is the sequel.
My impression after the first time I read this book "WOW", my impression after the second time I read this book "WOW - WOW", etc..

After I finished the final chapter everything in the book just seemed like common sense. As a shooter, I have thought the same things that were written for years but could never made heads-or-tails out of the information. Mark (the author) is very smooth in his ability to convey seemingly complex topics and put all the pieces of the mental puzzle on the table.

My final comment is, tell me when the sequel is so I can be the first in line to buy it - at any price!

A "must read" for a trapshooter
After reading this book I have one message to other shooters/readers: Buy this book, read it once, read it again, practice what it says than read the book again in 30 days.

The author does a great job of bringing difficult psychological concepts into simple understandings. While most other books, which only donate a single chapter to mental training, are written like a textbook - this author writes like he is talking directly to you. His straightforward writing style makes the book hard to put down once you start reading it.

I am currently a B-22-C trapshooter and after reading this book I feel like I have boosted my confidence such that I should be ready to move up the next class this season. I recommend this book highly.

PS. Don't loan it out to others... you will have a hard time getting it back - I know from experience.

Erring: A Postmodern A/Theology
Published in Paperback by University of Chicago Press (1987)
Author: Mark C. Taylor
Amazon base price: $15.00

Average review score:

Consequenses of Deconstruction: We Pretend it Doesn't Exist
Taylor's book seeks to establish a postmodernist philosophy by showing it to be the only viable option after the effects of deconstruction. It is in two parts.

The first part is a detailed exploration of the effects of deconstruction on the thinker's concept of God, self, history, and book. His argument is that deconstructive thought removes from the thinker the ability to endorse the being of an objective God, which in turn prevents a conception of self. This step occurrs because self is always defined in relation to an Archimedean point. Once both objective God and self are given up, there is nothing on which to base a concept of time or book (in the sense of a self-contained unified whole).

The first section effectively makes the reader unsatisfied with the consequenses of deconstructive thought. The argument that a person cannot live in this state in convincing.

In the second part, Taylor attempts to reconstruct these four concepts. He argues that the subjective action of the human imagination can re-lig (re-connect) the world and make an inhabitable conceptual universe.

The book is appropriate for a reader with some minimal background in the critical thought of the last two centuries. Taylor does not address the reader who rejects deconstruction on other grounds, and his attempt at reconstruction is unsatisfying. However, the first part of the book is entirely worth reading, and I highly recommend the book on the merits of the first part alone.

Question Truth
Mark Taylor's book, "Erring: A Postmodern A/theology," will challenge it's reader and entice them to enter his web of thought. Personally, I owe much of my own personal "erring" to this book. This read will help to examine as well as deal with the questions many of us can not seem to shake. Is their really a Judeo/Xian God? Understanding the dialectic between man and himself and his world is imperative if western culture is to proceed into a postmodern world of pluralism and omnicentrism. make no mistake, if you posess strong reading ability, this book will open your mind or return you to that experience few of us have attained. Err in this direction and Mark will surely send you erring or wandering in a world never before experienced or forgotten

Great photos, pretentious text.
If anyone is curious to see what the new Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument looks like, Anselm Spring's photos are terrific! However, Mark Taylor is a pretentious Edward Abbey wannabe. All in all, a nice coffee table book though.

Wild and Beautiful
Unlike the previous review, the book contains excellent photographs but superb essays by Taylor. Taylor is no Abbey wannabe, in his own right he is a more accomplished essayist, book author and magazine editor. The essays are personal, intimate and written by someone who knows the land better than 99% of reviewers. His book sandstone sunsets won critics acclaim and was named best contemporary non fiction book of the year by the Western Writers of America.

Airbrush Artist's Pocket Palette: Practical, Visual Advice on How to Render over 300 Effects and Textures (Pocket Palette Series)
Published in Hardcover by North Light Books (1996)
Authors: Mark Taylor and David Taylor
Amazon base price: $17.99
Average review score:

This book is bad book for a beginner.
As a beginner I found this book to be inadequate for my needs. There are 63 pages of nicely spiral bound(book lies flat) examples of various effects. That is to say... 63 pages of coloful rectangles with some comments about how to achieve a particular effect. It's sort of like reading the ingredients for a recipe but not telling you how to mix the ingredients or cook it.

I imagine that this book has some use to an experienced airbrusher but I suspect that once you have the experience the book is not very useful and is merely a nice 63 page of pretty rectangles.

This was not a good book for me.

Airbrush Artist's Pocket Palette
Airbrush Artist's Pocket Palette

Excellent examples and wonderful illustrations
The Airbrush Artist's Pocket Palette is filled with wonderful techniques to create hundreds of effects and textures. I would not know how to create hair, skin, wood, metallic surfaces, stone or highlights with my airbrush without this book.

You will need to have some knowledge about color palettes and airbrushes to fully understand the techniques descibed in the book.

The book also contains several pieces of completed artwork. The techniques they used to create the paintings are described with the corresponding painting.

I have enjoyed this book since the day I bought it.

Remarks from a Sicilian Girl
I have just returned from Sicily where I visited Maria's shop and saw the convent where her childhood was spent. I wish I would have read the book before my visit. The smell of almond pastries led me right up the narrow street and to the pastries and candies in her shop, and they are marvelous. The convent is just a short walk up the street from her shop, in the square. The recipes she shares in the book are uncomplicated and simply delicious. Her story is not embellished. There is no polished prose. It is as she saw it and lived it and has told it with her unique Sicilian expression. I enjoyed reading it and I will continue to enjoy her recipes.

Fascinating history, definitive flavor
I believe this is one of the most underrated cookbooks in terms of awards (Child, Beard, etc.) and public attention. I LOVED the story, and I feel like I was allowed to have something very personal, special and unique in the recipes which are exquisite. Had I not known a wonderful Italian lady (Carmel Anthony) and tasted her special cookies, however, I may not have known enough to get this book. You'll love it!
