Uproariously funny, although not intentionally so.
Although the effect was no doubt unintentional, reading an academic tome which attempts to make sense out of Gertrude Stein's writing is well-nigh hilarious. If you'd be interested in reading paragraphs of explanatory material regarding the statement "Peanuts blame, a half sand is holey and nearly", this is unquestionably the book for you.

Stein simplified
An accessible look at a writer who is fascinating but often hard to follow.

The Absent Plot Mystery
This book was a terrible disappointment. It was my son's first "Chapter Book" and almost put him off reading forever. There is no plot, the premise is absurd and one cannot tell one character from another as they are so poorly developed. It was required summer reading for his school and I thought we'd never get through it.

I had heard this was a wonderful series; perhaps we just chose the worst of the lot.

No trouble, just a surprise at the end
It is a mystery in the sense that the children do not know wholeaves them messages, but that's about it all.Nothing is happening thatmakes the story really keep the reader in suspense.

Ms. Warner! We accuse you of writing simple junk!
The characters are less than one dimensional. The plot is under-under-under-developed. Please, stop writing.
