Thorough, clean explanations
Financial Accounting is a difficult subject and Hermanson and Edwards do a very good job at bringing it down to the "understandable" level. They offer a multitude of ways to learn subject matter: from text, to graphs, to problems, to internet research (with web sites to visit) to real-world examples.

The Great Tennessee Monkey Trial
Everyone has heard of this trial. However, until I heard this rendition of the trial and play I wasn't as interested. This play sheds new light on it and makes it so much more interesting and actually brought it to life for me.

How to File for Divorce in Minnesota
Published in Paperback by Galt Pr (1996)
Authors: Edward A. Haman and Thomas Tuft
Amazon base price: $19.95
Used price: $23.18
Average review score:

First-rate pro se assistance -- lawyer's input still needed.
This book offers key resources to the individual who does not command the kind of files an experienced, professional Minnesota family law attorney such as Thomas Tuft develops over time in their office.

Even so, representing oneself -- whether out of financial necessity or a purely headstrong attitude -- is never a valid substitute for seasoned, independent legal judgment.

While using the key items provided, the user would be wise to obtain as much help as possible in planning, consulting, and reviewing their submissions from competent local counsel --such as Mr. Tuft -- with recent experience in Minnesota divorce work.

Every pro se party would be particularly well-advised to have "final" drafts of submisions to the court -- including draft settlement agreements -- reviewed by their own, independent counsel PRIOR TO signing or approval, and prior to service on the other party or to filing with the court, even if payment of some form of fee for that service is necessary.

Many tragically unfair settlements entered into by pro se parties could have been prevented by even a $100.00 pre-approval consultation with an experienced lawyer.

An Extraordinary Book
Published at the time of the Kienholz Retrospective Show at the Whitney Museum in 1996, this book not only documents that show with over 400 illustrations (many in color), it is also a tribute to Ed Kienholz, who died in 1994. Contributions by art historians, artists, friends and most importantly, Nancy Reddin Kienholz, make up a history that spans 4 decades. It begins with Ed's solo work in the Beat Era of the 1950s and continues with the collaborative work done by Ed and wife Nancy from 1972 to 1994. Even those who are not artists cannot help but be moved by this book. The stories are interesting, often funny and always personal. From collages to life-size environments, the work is not afraid to confront issues of cruelty or to embrace the forgotten in society. Unique vision, artistry and the materials of everyday life (collected at flea markets and junk shops) combine to make art that can be quiet with despair, cry out in anguish, or even make us laugh. Considered by some as ugly, this work is never dull or without compassion. As art historian and curator Walter Hopps says on the book jacket, "The work of Edward and Nancy Reddin Kienholz has had an enormous impact on the development of contemporary sculpture." I recommend this book to anyone interested in contemporary art or social science -- or who just appreciates a beautiful book and fascinating story.

one of the few essential philosophy books
A very rare book that brings Heart and Soul as well as Intellect to the reviewing table. In consequence Neitzsche and Schopenhauer are completely debunked, whilst Plato, Socrates, Hume, Kant et al are rightly given their due positions on the high table. Easy to read, easy to digest, fascinating and luminous. This book could save you hundreds of hours you might otherwise have spent unnecessarily wading through dense philosophical tomes. There is nothing else quite like it, when it comes to understanding the western philosophers in an objective context. It is both truly astonishing and a sad reflection of the times that no one else has reviewed this book before.

A framework for true reconciliation in Northern Ireland
John Hume is a virtually unknown figure in the United States, but he has been steadily gaining recognition due to his work in the Northern Irish peace agreement. This recognition is overdue and much deserved. This monumental book outlines Hume's political philosophy - a philosophy which seeks to brush aside the vengefulness and intransigence of Northern Ireland's past, searching instead for reconciliation through justice for all. Hume is heavily influenced by Matin Luther King, Jr. and John F. Kennedy, and quotes from these two figures flavor Hume's text. Hume's themes may seem repetitive, and his ideas seem to be based on the shakey foundation of human progress, but this work demonstrates that he is a champion for for a true peace in Northern Ireland - a peace that is just for all.

Experts Sourcebook
The authors share their considerable knowledge of all aspects of pension plan terminations covered by ERISA Title IV. Laced with insider tidbits, learned firsthand while the PBGC was beginning to mature, I refer to it often when digging for a detail. It's organization and thorough soup-to-nuts approach will also help novices climb the learning curve. It's a great resource that I keep handy on my bookshelf.
