A good readable transaltion of Gita for lay reader
The book is a translation of Bhagavatgita. Lord Krishna spoke to Arjuna in the war period, when Arjuna was confused about his duty. The author and series aims to introduce East and West mutually about the great works. The book fulfiles this objective. The introduction gives an overview of Indian philosophy, epics and the placing of Gita. He gives a brief overview the theme of Mahabharata. The translation are done in way that reader new to indian philosophical theme can go through without much of puzzlement. Every chapter has few lines of introduction. Every page top carries a subtitle. The author has drawn attention to the famous commentaries and their differences at sutiable places as foot notes. One should understand that the book introduces Gita; later one can look to other authoritative works. A good book for giving as a gift.

A good translation of Bhagavadgita
It is a good translation of Bhagavadgita. Apart from giving translated titles for chapters, there are titles ( on top of every page) which indicate this current context. A well written introduction places the work in context of indian history and philosophy. The introduction gives the basic background of Mahabharata. The author has taken interest in the different names addressed to Krishna; has given footnotes. ( Annie Besant in her translation preferred to simplify the issue). The author is well aware of the different emphasis of popular religious leaders. He draws attention to this in some of the foot notes. Basically, his work is translation; ( with its limitations). Reader can interest in detailed authorised commentaries later. The purpose of the book is a quick introduction to English-speaking public. SRIKRSNARPANAM ASTU.

The best book I have ever read on Lawrence.
Having read everything ever written on Lawrence, and even written a book myself, I can unconditionally state that this is the best book in the field. I unconditionally reccomend it to all readers, whether neophytes wanting to learn about the "myth behind the man," or seasonsed Lawrence experts. Although each essay shines in its own way, Stang's stands out as a major new contribution to Lawrence scholarship.

THE BEST BOOK ON LAWRENCE EVER
Having read everything ever written on Lawrence, and even written a book on him myself, I can state without qualification that this book contains the best work ever produced on Lawrence "of Arabia." I reccomend it both to the first-time reader wanting to go beyond the Lawrence of legend, and to the long-time academic devotee of the military and intellectual career of this icon of the 20th century. Although each essay is excellent in its own way, Stang's stands out as a pillar of Lawrence scholarship.

Great Catalog
I thought this book was great! The pictures of the objects are beautiful. Where a picture could not be obtained there is usually a detailed sketch of the object. The descriptions give not only insight into use of the archaological object but also surrounding information like similar objects and archeological context. Then the essays descibe the time period and unknown/debated issue of Egyptian Archeology. As a newbie to Egyptian Archaeology I found the book easy to read and felt that things were explained well.

Bailey's Industrial Oil and Fat Products (A Wiley Interscience Publication)
Published in Hardcover by John Wiley & Sons (1985)
Authors: Alton Edward Bailey and Thomas H. Applewhite
Amazon base price: $160.00
Used price: $39.95
Average review score:

The definitive text covering edible and industrial oils.
A five volume set, much expanded over previous editions, to cover the latest processing technology as well as the latest developments in oilseeds. This is the definitive text that covers fats and oils, composition, processing and equipment, edible products, industrial products and derivatives (e.g. soap.) The only drawbacks are that there is no common index to all volumes and that there is a great deal of valuable information which is not findable through the index (i.e. one must actually READ the sections to unearth valuable facts and bits of information.)

Helpful and Useful
As an English graduate student looking forward to a career of teaching, I have read several books on the subject. This particular text is one of the most useful I've seen so far. The articles cover a myriad of teaching approaches and exercises for potential students.

While not forcing one particular philosophy on the reader, articles by authors like Peter Elbow, Douglas B. Park, Lisa Ede and Andrea Lunsford offer different perspectives on different ares of the teaching process. These articles help the reader decide how important "audience" is, and whether literature has a place in a freshman composition course.

Chapters cover such areas as: "Teachers," "Students," "Approaches," "Perspectives," "Composing and Revising," and "Styles," among other things. This book would be incredibly useful for a new teacher, a potential teacher, or even a student interested in further developing his or her own writing skills. The book offers ideas for a teacher to help a student with typical writing roadblocks: how to start, how to get organized, and how to overcome writer's block. An invaluable tool that has helped me not only develop my own philosophy on teaching, but has also helped me in my own writing process.

Collected poems

Beautiful poetry
Edward Thomas was an english poet killed in the last days of the first world war. But, before his early and tragic death, he was able to write some of the most beautiful and gentle poetry about England, the countryside and his fears for the future under the shadow of war. He really is, I believe, one of the most neglected poets of that era and is definitely a find for any poetry lover to treasure.

Wrong author listed for black monk time and Cowboy like Me
There are a few copies of Cowboy like me, still in print. It is by the same author of Black Monk Time, Thomas Edward Shaw & Anita Klemke. Thomas M. Shaw as listed on black monk time, is not an author of this book. Nor is Thomas (no middle initial) Shaw.

Edward Thomas and similar poets: poetic treasures to find !
This book is a very worthwhile companion volume to another recent book by Anne Harvey, "Adlestrop Revisited: an Anthology Inspired by Edward Thomas's Poem" (1999). Notable among the poets/"elected friends" are: Eleanor Farjeon (friend and literary adviser of Edward Thomas, and author of "Morning Has Broken" - set to the music of the traditional Irish hymn "St Patrick's Breastplate" and popularised in the 1970s by Cat Stevens); Other poets such as Ivor Gurney, Walter John De La Mare and William Henry Davies and Robert Frost, to name a few. "Elected Friends" is a book to be treasured and frequently "dipped into".
