Great book! I've read it a zillion times! Warms my heart.
I love reading or quoting many of the verses to my friend. It makes him smile at me so sweetly!!

Very fine translations and extensive content
Sweetness of honey is a well-researched and planned collection of classical poetry. Lovric and Mardas have exhumed and translated the Latin and Greek with sensitivity and passion, so that the strength of poetry is evident on every page. Individual lines speak volumes, and that should be the selling point of this book: that ancients used words thriftily, allowed the words to serve them utmost. This book could serve as a primer for contemporary poets who tend to use handfuls of words to accomplish little. However, many patrons of this book will also note the beautiful art, page layout, and the categorical division of the poems--all well thought-out. My only reservation in judging this book involves the few pages of multi-translated poems which, though they show the variance of interpretation over time, also served to divert my attention from the beauty of the words and focus it instead on the historical tranlators. This is a small matter. Lovric and Madras have done an exceptional job. I fully recommend this book to anyone who wants to experience the stoutness of language or the sage simplicity of well-wrought love poems, or to anyone who simply wishes to familiarize themselves with ancient authors, both well- and lesser-known.

Floor Plan Atlas: Housing: Following Preparatory Work by Professor Hellmuth Sting

An excellent review of housing types
This is certainly a book that many who deal with housing design have felt lacking from their libraries. Being an excellent review of housing types of the last century, mainlyafter modernism,it is an excellent reference book for those in need of an historical overview of housing. The categories into which the examples are divided into is logical, which helps in comparing different types of housing. It is also a pleasure to read it as the book is designed in very elegant and clear lines. Unfortunately it costs too much for me but for those who can afford it, it will be a great pleasure to own.

Sander's Sting
Loved the book for the first 338 pages but the last 10 basically destroyed it. Sanders books are usually well-plotted with interesting, if slightly dishevled, characters and situations. This one followed the same basic format but self-destructed in the end. He built characters who took turns scamming each other but at the finish, only the reader was scammed. Not a good effort from a writer who usually produces.

"The Sting" this book ain't
I picked up a copy of this book for $2 on a discount rack and I wasted my money. Character development was virtually non-existant with a storyline almost impossible to believe. Everyone jumping into bed with everyone else and everyone scamming from each other...including the cops scamming from each other. And practically no ending at all. After reading KING CON by Stephen J. Cannell, I was hoping for something similar but no such luck.

Wanting more about Rita and David :)
WOW..I just got done reading Sullivan's Sting...what an amazing book, I could not put it down and when I finally did I jumped online to find if there was a follow up to it anywhere..I'd love to know? Amazing piece of work Mr Sanders Congrats :-)

Quite useful, yet...
I find this sheetbook quite useful. Needless to say, if you don't have the album don't bother with it. However it contains some fine music and it is excellent excercise too. Still I find a repeating problem with all of Sting's sheetbooks. They all seem like adapted versions of the songs, not how they're really played. So if you find the bass riff in the beggining of "Fields of gold" unlike the original, it is because it is originally played by the horn, and so on... Still, It's worth it.

Decent Book, Especially for the Low Price
To cut to the chase, this book has some interesting pictures and covers every song by the Police and into Sting's solo career up to _Ten Summoner's Tales_. Some photos are in color, but most are in b/w. Each section describes another album, when the album was released, what songs you'll find on it and what kind of reviews it received. The main thing I disliked about this book was the frequent commentary of the author regarding the meaning of songs. Sometimes we agreed, sometimes we didn't, but I would have been happier with more Sting quotes, more facts and less editorializing by the author. All things considered though, the affordable price makes this title worth buying.

A Perfect Companion Piece
Omnibus Press's CD size 'complete guides' are very popular and this book is a belated but welcome addition to the series. Penned by Chris Welch, an ex Melody Maker journalist this compact book includes a brief history and examines each song on each album including Message in a Box, and Sting's solo releases. There are also plenty of photographs including several in colour. The narrative for each track is, understandably, coloured by the author's view and it's obvious that he doesn't rate Stewart and Andy's songwriting talents too highly, but this aside the book is inexpensive and generally very good (and it fits perfectly next to your Police and Sting CD's!) and is excellent value for money.

Not for piano
This book was not what I was hoping for in terms of piano music although it may be good for guitar and vocal. Quite a few of the songs are just the background music w/o the melody line. I only enjoy playing about 4 songs from this book - wish I had bought the complete book of one of his solo albums like Blue Turtles or Nothing Like the Sun (but didn't, so could be the same issue!). Do we really need the Puff Daddy Remix of Roxanne? I don't think so.

Good yet, not excellent.
This is the first negative review I have posted on a book. This book is excellent for piano, but for guitar? I think not. I thought this book would have tablature and chords, but unfortunately it only has chords. Don't get me wrong this book has excellent chords, just no tabs. For those who play piano and rythm or solo guitar this is a good choice. But for lead guitarist, look else where. Thank war veretans for all the have done for us. HOO-YAH!!!!

An excellent collection of sheet music for guitarists
A songbook for piano/vocal/guitar which includes these hits by Sting & The Police: *Message In A Bottle *Can't Stand Losing You *Englishman In New York *Every Breath You Take *Walking On the Moon *Fields of Gold *Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic *If You Love Somebody Set Them Free *Let Your Soul Be Your Pilot *Russians *If I Ever Lose My Faith In You *When We Dance *Don't Stand So Close To Me *Roxanne I absolutely love it and it's great for both beginning and advanced guitar players because it shows you all the fingering for every chord included in the songs. I definitely recommend this for anyone who wants to learn to play Police/Sting songs quickly and sound like an expert!

Don't waste your time or money
This is by far the worst book ever written about Sting. Just by reading it you can tell that the author does not like Sting at all. Sting himself even said the book was (bad)and that none of it is true. So if you are a Sting fan or just want to learn more about the man, don't buy this book, get the "all this time" dvd and you can actually see what of person he is.

A Waste Of A Good Tree
This is possibly the first attempt to write a 'definitive' biography of Sting, and in our view it fails spectacularly. Borrowing extensively from previous books - especially Sutcliffe and Fielder's "L'Historia Bandido" - and press cuttings the book is littered throughout with careless errors, and dwells, tabloid fashion, on the more sensationalist and 'media friendly' issues such as drugs, his sex life, and his involvement in the rainforest. In an 'exclusive' interview he gave to the Daily Express newspaper at the time of the book's release, Sting said - "I have led a pretty wild life, but none of it's in the book". He gave a more succinct review on Virgin radio when he said that the book was "crap". We don't disagree - it was fun to read at the time because it is about Sting, but it left you feeling a guilty and a little queasy afterwards.

Great for a first timer!
I had never had the opportunity to read any type of in depth articles or biographies about the life of Gordon Sumner prior to this biography. For this reason, I am rating this book with 5 stars. If you've been hungry for something for quite a few years, and you've finally been given a small taste of it, it is going to be quite satisfying. This small piece of such a great mans life was certainly satisfying for me.

Nice Try...
Although this is a reasonable attempt at a biography it suffers from the same fate as all biographies on Sting - no cooperation or input from the subject himself. So you are left with what appears to be regurgitated interviews, reviews, articles and general gossip as source material. That said, the book is innocous enough, has a few b&w photographs and covers Sting's career up until the end of the Amnesty shows in 1988. Three stars, mainly for effort.

Factually Interesting, But Poorly Written
First, a confession--I'm a Sting fan for several years, and a die-hard one at that. As much as I love his work with the Police and his solo material, I also know he isn't infallable--there are several instances where a different path might have reaped larger artistic dividends.

Still, this is a hard read. It's interesting from a factual standpoint, as I learned a number of things about Sting that twenty years of fandom had failed to impress upon me. But the way Sanford writes is just so darn annoying that it approaches worthlessness at times. At times he's insightful, and you're pleased at how much sense his views make. Other times, you're amazed at just how hard he's trying to be hip, to be cool and dispassionate. At best it's annoying, at worst grating.

You'll not find a better book on Sting on the market today...and that's the problem.

Destined for 'la poubelle'..
To give all those interested in Sting, a flavour of this book, and just how incredibly irritating it truly is to any self-confessed fan such as myself, I will attempt to entertain you with a mimic of the author's style of writing in this scathing review- only this time the spotlight being turned on Mr.Sandford - the self-styled 'le critique par excellence'.

"Its obvious from the very beginning, to the educated, of the 'rationale' this author proclaims to have on music, and quite obviously, it is nothing less than a mixture of his misplaced determination and ambition and our bad luck that Mr.Sandford ever thought to write a biography on Sting.

I do indeed compliment the author on his ability to critise and praise Sting on his life, however contrite and unjustified it often is. And its with sincere regret that after much careful 'investigation' - talking to 100 or so people (no less) about Sting* (*his music)- The 'facts' are as follows:

Having read some first-hand 'evidence' of Stings childhood , ie. "A Sting In The Tale" by James Berryman (a better book- highly recommended) "Chris" (Mr. Sandford) falls short of delivering any unbiased information, however well informed by the Tabliod sheets (see back pages for actual references) and therefore, in no uncertain terms, makes himself 'look' (and I say look as I'd never intend to bias my reader) like a self-congratulating hypocrite. Indeed if I read about it in a Tabloid- i'm sure it would be true.

Chris, my dear friend, you were once a journalist now you are little more than a 'pretentious git' in my eyes... at least Sting has the sense of humour to appreciate that some people will always see him that way for whatever reasons.

You however - don't."

ah, thank you kindly
well if you're still interested - just don't believe all the stuff he sprouts!

The more you know the more you don't care
Mr. Sandford gives an insightful look into Mr. Sting. Unfortunately, the more you read, the more you discover that Mr. Sting is one of the most self indulgent, arrogant, childish people you would ever not want to know. A waste of a good write.
