Different, but a must have!
The Art of being you came out just after the death of the talented Gianni Versace. I own all of his books which I highly recommend. Different in this installment are the images of modern art which Versace so incorporated into his work. Evident is the work of Julien Schnabel (broken plate painter) and Andy Warhol. The presence of photographer Richard Avedon's work makes the 100$Canadian worth it. If your into fashion especially Versace, check out Vanitas for Gianni's renderings. Nobody does it like Versace. Lets hope his sister continues the same tradition.

The best
This book shows the private art collection that the versace family have collected. Great book with great pictures.

Any coffee table w/o this should be green with envy!
In the world of Art books, This has got to be the best posthumous release ever. Abbeville Press has outdone themselves with this masterpiece. I own Mr. Versace's previous 5 books, Signatures, Vanitas, Do not disturb, Rock and Royalty and Men w/o ties which I highly recommend. In this edition, Versace shows us that until his untimely death, the wheels never stopped turning. With the help of Thierry Perez, Steven Meisel, Julian Schnabel and other fabulous artists, This book truly defines the artifice and uncompromising couturier called Gianni Versace.

Gentle Look at the Trials of Establishing the Pecking Order
Steven Kellog somehow keeps his many books fresh and entertaining. "Much Bigger than Martin" captures the angst of sibling rivalry by exploring how the younger brother reacts and rebels to the injustices, both real and perceived, from being the youngest kid.

Mr. Kellog is never preachy, but infuses this universal tale with humor and wit. As always, his illustrations fit the story to a "T" and reveal not just what is happening, but, more importantly, what the younger brother wants to have happen.

For the younger kids in the family, this is a great book!!
I remember reading this book in grade school and I just loved it. I was the baby in the family and my brother always got to do stuff that I wished I could and I sometimes wished I was bigger like the boy in the book. I have two boys of my own now and cant wait to share this book with them. It definatly puts a smile on my face watching my children enjoying books that I loved when I was little and really enjoy to read still..

Just wait till I grow up and I'm bigger than you!
Even if you're not the second or third child, you can relate to how hard it is to be little. Martin has ALL the privileges. Martin has ALL the fun. Martin's downfall is plotted by his little brother in delicious illustrations with Kellogg's keen eye for the ridiculous and affection for the underdog. This was a family favorite, especially for the youngest one!

Start Exploring Masterpieces: Coloring Book (Coloring Book)

Start Exploring Masterpieces
This is a great coloring book! It is a fun, kinesthetic method of learning and enjoying 500 years of great paintings. The drawings are not overly detailed, enabling you to use your imagination in coloring with just enough detail to do justice to the painting.

The stories are brief but entertaining. You are given information about the painting, including the nationality and style and date of the author as well as where the painting is now located. This is very useful in searching for more information on the painting.

Highly recommended to anyone who would like to expose their children (or themselves) to great art in a fun and relaxing way! A great springboard to learning.

Wonderful resource for any art teacher
This book is a great resource for any art teacher. I am an elementary (k-6) art teacher and I use these coloring book pages for my students to help re-enforce the art history lessons that I use in the classroom. It is great for them to see and color a copy of a painting that they have learned about at the end of the lesson, and they have a masterpiece to take home with them. I have used them with all my students, and all age ranges. Some of them are a little difficult for the kindergarteners because the pictures are very detailed...but it is a great way to help develop those fine motor skills for the little ones. My students love to color their own masterpieces after we have discussed the actual painting in the classroom. I use this at least once a week, and the interesting facts that accompany every painting are well written and concise.

You Can Make Your Own Masterpiece!
I have just received my coloring book of masterpieces and I was very happy at the kinds of paintings that were put into the book. They are some of the ones i have studied in humanities and art history. They are really neat to copy onto a canvas and paint them. I like the information they include on the artists and what time period they lived in. I hope they come out with a second book of just more masterpieces to color.

Good spooky fun
"A Beasty Story," by Bill Martin Jr. and Steven Kellogg, is a picture story about four hamsters: Nilly, Willy, Lily, and Silly. They come across a spooky Victorian-style house in a dark wood, and ultimately discover something scary inside.

The authors help children to learn colors as they tell the story; this is well-integrated into the book. "Beasty" is an effective mix of suspense and humor, although the surprise ending doesn't quite work; some readers might notice that the authors seem to violate the laws of science to achieve the surprise! Still, a fun book.

A great book for preschoolers
My daughter (3 1/2) and son (20 months) both loved this book when we borrowed it from the library. It is full of suspense yet not scary. The rhymes are wonderful! It teaches colors as well. My daughter loved repeating the sentences.
A cute and educational book!

Perfect book for new readers and parents to share together!
Bill Martin Jr.'s knack for rhyme and rhythm are the base for this exciting tale. Steven Kellogg illustrates the 'dark, dark woods' and the charming mice whose adventure we are sharing. This book is perfect for beginning readers and adults to share the reading. Children can easily memorize and 'read' the subtly changing text. Adults can chime in as the mice. I love to watch my Kindergartener's read this book 'outloud to themselves'. They cannot help but add dramatic touches to the reading. A new classic from these two great contributors to children's literature.

Accountants' Handbook
Working in public accounting for a long time, but beeing new to the accounting world in the U.S., I found this book very instructive and helpful to resolve practical questions on one hand and finding access to the underlying "World of Statements", the scientific backbone, at the same time.

First it offers a red thread through most of the relevant areas of accounting and financial reporting. But even more important, the book contains a reliable and quick guidance to find solutions for a lot of different actual practical issues, occurring in specific industries and situations.

The Best of the Best!
This set is the most comprehensive, informative, and complete writing on accounting. No other book is necessary! These are hard to find though. Good luck!

Pantry Bible for the Carribean Cook
Steven Raichlen, author of The Barbeque Bible, once again gives an in depth treatment of his chosen subject. In the Carribean Pantry, Raichlen demystifies exotic fruits, vegetables, tubers and spices into laymen terms for the home cook. Proffesionals ,as well, can use this book as an invalueble point of refference.

Fabulous food layouts and color photos
It's worth buying this book just for the wonderful photographs. Not only is there a complete listing of exotic ingredients such as fruits, vegetables and spices, there is a nice assortment of recipes to choose from. This is definitely one of my favorite Caribbean books. If you like this book, you will love Angela Spenceley's latest book "A Taste of the Caribbean" featuring hundreds of tidbits about exotic fruits, vegetables and other tropical ingredients. This complete A-Z Caribbean cookbook is a valuable addition to any good cookbook library.

The Future is Now
In this little book, two of film's most visible critics, Roger Ebert and the late Gene Siskel, interview three of the most influential film directors of the last 30 years: Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, and George Lucas. (Scorsese is interviewed by both Ebert and Siskel. Spielberg is interviewed by Siskel; Lucas by Ebert.)

Much of the focus of this little book is directed toward film preservation, although the title of the book also refers to trends in filmmaking. It is interesting to see the predictions that all three directors made for the future of film when these interviews were conducted in 1990. Along the way, we gain a bit of insight into the passion these three directors (and these two critics) have for films and their future. An interesting look for the casual fan or the serious film lover.

116 pages

Excellent commentary by prominent film makers and critics.
A must-have for film fans. In what other book can one get so intimate about films with acclaimed film makers Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and George Lucas, along with prominent film critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert. Simply put, facinating, and a pure joy to read. Plus, the proceeds go to restoring films, such as JAWS, that are literally disappearing.

Land of the Ascending Dragon: Rediscovering Vietnam

Good Work.
The author provides us with beautiful photographs of Vietnam, a thousand year old country. Pictures of mountains, seas, paddy fields, towns and villages alternated with those of children afflicted with war induced deformities and a veteran amputee receving treatment. What makes the book interesting is the juxtaposition of black photographs of the war and colored images of the present.

For the past is interwined with the present. The horrors of the war have left indelible marks on the people and country alike as Raymer has shown us in his book.

Vietnam is not just another name for war
The authors do an excellent job of transposing the "American Image" of Vietnam into the beautiful and complex country that it really is. It draws from that "American Image" rooted in the drama of the war years, and gradually leads us to a clearer understanding of just what the country is today (and what it was before the intensity of the U.S. involvement)and where it may go in the future. It is encouraging, and very hopeful, to see the country and its people re-anchored in their traditional values--in spite of the current relic of communism--and to appreciate the renewed emphasis on education, family, business, and integration into the world economy. Clearly, it has been a long hard row to hoe, but it is moving in the right direction. Jack Smith's introduction lays this out, and it is reenforced by the text and Mr. Raymer's revealing photographs. The result is a far better sense of place and people.

A five-star effort by all three guys!
Jack Smith's introduction says it all -- Vietnam is a beautiful, peaceful land that is going places. Doing this book brought back a lot of memories and was a tonic for the soul. Enjoy it!

Good stuff....
A nice collection of artists, with some great examples of what they can do. But....
Paper stock is poor and some prints are a bit blurry.

Look at it Regularly!
This is a great artbook, featuring many famous furry artists. I love the art, and look at it regularly. If you're a fan of Michele Light, I recommend it.
