DEEP STRIKE HITS HIGH IN ADVENTURE!!
Once again Mr. James Smith gives us another stripped down action adventure story of the 4-man team called Team Midnight.

This series doesn't waste any time in delivering the goods in terms of starting right off on the latest mission - or Event Scenarios - as they are called.

The best character surprisingly enough is the Gunny Sgt. called Night Runner. I can't seem to get enough of this awesome character. The leader Capt. Jack Swayne, though smart and tough and an interesting character himself, still takes a back seat to the Blackfoot warrior.

The newest member of the team is Greiner and so far, he fits in with the team. But with Mr. James Smith at the writing helm, who knows how long he will last. Thats one of the great things about this series - good guys die! This makes it all the more interesting and believable.
In this particular storyline, Night Runner makes a huge mistake on one of his teammates while out on a deadly mission.
The sniper of the group is taken hostage by a very smart terrorist and makes the simple mop-up mission into a deadly race.
This is by far one of the very best action/adventure series out there. I usually don't read this kind of stuff, but this was one great find and Mr. Smith has a huge fan in me.
This is a must read for anyone who reads sci-fi/fantasy heroic-type novels. Even they would like FORCE RECON!!
cAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT INSTALLMENT.

A thorough examination of a complex hero's life
Mary McLeod Bethune is one of those known/unknown African-American heroines. While many have heard her name, still many don't know of her longtime, prosperous friendship with Eleanor Roosevelt, or the details about her life as a young southern girl with more than a dozen brothers and sisters. Many also know there's a college in Daytona named for her, in part (Bethune-Cookman), but they don't know her relationship to the institution. This book, a comprehensive look at her life, answers many of those questions, and more. For those who already know about her life and want more depth (or even a biography written for adults, rather than the many children's books on Bethune), or for those who don't know Bethune's accomplishments, this is a godsend. It's clearly written, chocked with information, and might even be a welcome addition to many school libraries. An informational gem.

Monogram does it again
A title well in the style of other Monogram publications: authoritative, well researched, splendid photos. Great job there. However, the usual flaws also appear: wrong picture captions, excessive repetitions text-caption and the like. Altogether, a must have for any WWII aviation buff, especially modellers. Lots of details to build that dust gathering (Monogram 1/48?) Do335 to a contest winner.

Great Overview/Needs Forms
This publication is concise and easy to read. The approximately 400 pages are written in layman's terms that allow for quicker reading and affords a general understanding of the various issues involved in a construction project. However, the footnotes direct the reader to legal sources that provide a substantive basis for the points addressed. The book can easily be read in 1-2 days. The Index serves as an excellent "search engine" for quick reference. The only items lacking were forms.

Great starter book
I'm fifteen and am in FFA I recently purchased my first calf. My Dad got this book for me and it has helped out from purchasing a sound heifer to shelter and feeding. The chapter on calfing is also very helpful. A great book for a first calf project.

pretty pictures, but a poor text choice
I "inherited" Smith's book from my predecessor as the text for a general ecology course (junior-level). I found it to be a poor choice. The fifth edition appears to have undergone recent and massive revision; the text had far more than its fair share of typos, literature citations that were not listed in the bibliography, and perhaps most damningly, colorful figures that were often inadequately explained and sometimes incorrectly labeled. While I understand the presence of factual errors - a text with a subject as diverse as ecology would be difficult for one person to write - there is no excuse for them. All in all, this book was a disappointment.

good for a general ecology course or reference
I have used this book for several years as a text for my general ecology course. Although simple errors may plague this book, it is one of the most comprehensive for a course involving field investigations. The appendix sections on sampling plant and animal populations and life table construction are very helpful for students and instructors. The book is strong on physiological ecology, plant interactions, and case history presentations.

Great Deal
Fast delivery. Book was in great shape for a great price. Thanx!

In defense of William Hannibal Thomas
It is extremely racist for the author and other "liberals" to denounce William Hannibal Thomas for "betraying" his "race." Isn't "race" a fiction? A mulatto is not a Negro. Thomas was really no different from the average mulatto in his views regarding mulatto superiority and Negro inferiority. He was just more public about it. Even your mulatto "black" hero W.E.B. DuBois believed in mulatto superiority. What do you think his "Talented Tenth" was? Do you recall how DuBois described Marcus Garvey in the most perjorative racial terms because the latter was black and not mulatto?

If the liberal author condemns Thomas as a "race traitor," then he is indirectly endorsing the view of white supremacists who believe in white "race traitors." If "race" is not a biological fact, how can there be any "race traitors"?

In defense of Thomas and other Anglo mulattoes and mixed-whites who proudly reject the black stigma, may I ask why Latinos (also a mixed race, partially black group), Indians, Asians, etc. have never been condemned for the same "sins" of looking down on blacks and identifying more with whites? Mexican elites, for example, were willing to condemn blacks as inferior as long as Mexicans as a group could have the honored label of "white." Why don't they receive the condemnation and sneering that Anglos of mixed-race receive even when they just live their lives and make no statements on "race"? Why? Why don't liberals rejoice at THEIR misfortunes and proclaim that the uppity in-betweens had it coming to them?

Smith should condemn himself as a "racist" for promoting the "one drop" myth and forced hypodescent. As a liberal, he misleads people of good will into endorsing anti-mulatto racism as a defense of blacks. That is the source of the "race traitor" accusation against William Hannibal Thomas. He is being used as a scapegoat.

A.D. Powell has issues
As a biracial, i'm compelled to say: You are a bigoted woman. Most mulattoes do not think they are superiour over blacks, they are not hateful like you. W.E.B Dubois was proud to be a negro, he help found the NAACP.

You Must Read This Book--Excellent
A thorough, detailed account of how William Hannibal Thomas transformed from an activist and advocate into someone who projected his own feelings of insecurity and inferiority onto his fellow African-Americans. The author does an excellent job of giving Thomas's changing perceptions historical context. All in all, a compelling book.

Absurd Exercise in Self-Congratulation
There are two possibilities:
1. Thomas wrote this BEFORE he ruined the CBA and bailed on the organization to coach in the NBA. So maybe his recommendations on life and business aren't ones you want to follow.
2. Thomas wrote this AFTER he ruined the CBA and bailed on the organization to coach in the NBA. In this case, he's sadly blind to his lacking business skills, after taking the CBA to bankruptcy with his faulty business plans and generally greedy, self-absorbed behavior.
This book is only interesting in that it shows how people can be so self-delusional. Don't buy this.

A great book for those who are starting out
I am sick of these silly reviews which harp on the CBA bankruptcy, which Isiah acknowledges as a failure. What they did not acknowledge is that this "50+ year old" league was on the brink of failure when he bought it, and would have failed earlier had he not, plain and simple. This is a great story for someone (like most of our inner city youth/adults, especially those who grew up in the 1970s) who is struggling with their circumstances, yet striving to make something of themselves and those around them.

The CBA critics are probably the same who regard Jack Welch, as the ultimate Corporate God, yet fail to acknowledge him as what he has clearly shown himself, a self-aggrandizing, greedy, materialistic, adulter. Isiah, unethical? I have not seen him take the 5th and refuse to discuss his mistakes. What about these guys: Ken Lay, Scott Sullivan, Bernie Ebbers, Andy Fastow? Hmm....

Sorry boys, I will stick with Isiah and his book. He never tries to portray himself as a victim, yet acknowledges his mistakes. What would you call this person? I think we would call this person a human being. Make this book a part of your library and share it with your kids.

Everyone has a "Gladys"
This is a book for all ages. Isiah really touches the heart talking about growing up in Chicago in a big family that didn't have a lot. Gladys was the name he gave his local basketball court. It was where he sought solace from the tough world and where he realized his dream. This is a great story that isn't about business but about how you can fulfill your dreams. The fundamentals are practical and encouraging. If you are a sports fan, you will love his insight into the big games of his career. It is an easy read that gives us all hope.
