Stange Mysteries From Around The World
Huge disappointment
My nephew was not at all interested in this book as it didn't shed any light on the mysteries so it was too open ended. I would not recommend it.
A great book that all should read!
Strange Mysteries from Around the World is a great book for anyone. It has 9 unsolved mysteries that make you really think. It is reading that is fun while you are learning. Imagine photographing things that are invisible, or a crystal skull that is said to have magic powers. Also people walking on fire and how they do it. You hear why scientists think why these things happen. Most of these myseries will never be solved, and that is what makes you think. This is a great book for all ages and very fun. If you like reading that really makes you think then you'll love this book!

Just The Facts, Mamm.
PLANETS AROUND THE SUN works rather well as an introductory book to the planets of the solar system in the Milky Way. The book briefly discusses the nine planets of the Milky Way, the Earth's Moon, and the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. The last page in the book displays a chart that illustrates, among other things, the distance of each planet from the sun; each planet's orbital period; amount of moons; and the amount of rings. There are several basic space facts scattered throughout the thirty pages, e.g. the winds on Neptune blow at over 700 mph. The thing that separates this book from others of it's kind that I have read are it's bright and vivid pictures. The pictures are full of color and contrast and bring to life the uniqueness of our solar system. Overall this is a wonderful book to introduce children to the wonder and miracle of space.
An astronomy book that covers the basic facts
"Planets Around the Sun," by Seymour Simon, combines many astronomical photographs with an easy-to-read text. The book is a basic overview of the planets of the solar system. A sample of the writing style: "We live on a planet called Earth. [new page] Earth is one of the nine planets that travel around the sun."
The book includes a comparative chart that lists each planet along with basic facts: distance from the sun, orbital period, number of moons (if any), etc. The book sticks to only the most basic facts; for example, the moons of Mars and other planets are not mentioned by name.

Easy to understand information
This is a very good beginning book on the subject for children. It begins with scientific information about how earthquakes occur, and then goes through what may happen during an earthquake, such as buildings falling down, fires, gas leaks, etc. It goes into further particulars, such as how it feels to be in an earthquake, and what safety measures to take.
The illustrations are very simple, and not especially appealing, but they do help illustrate the points well.
All in all, a good book for children ages 8 -12 who live in earthquake prone areas, especially.

A GOOD BOOK FOR LATER ELEMENTARY
This was a good book but I would not recommend it for kids ages 4-8. It was quite verbous. It was very informational, however, and a good source to use in the classroom.

Great educational book for kids
Like all of Seymour Simon's planet books, Saturn is an excellent non-fiction book for children. It gives exciting factual information about the planet including what its rings are made of and information about it's moons. The book is especially exciting for children because of the real pictures of Saturn that intrigue them to learn more about our solar system.

Beautiful!
What a gorgeous book. It's written to appeal to a young audience, but anyone can enjoy the stunning photographs. It makes you appreciate the inherent beauty of storms. It covers everything from Clouds, to rain, to tornados. As well as providing information about each subject, it often includes safety information for children which I found to be very responsible.

I would only recommend this book for non-frequent readers. It has 9 stories which can be read separtly. You should only read this book for a couple minutes a day, whenever you have time. I don't think that this is a good book to read continusly.
Some of the stories were very good, but others I was stuggling to get through. My favorite story in the book was "Oak Island". It takes place on , you guessed it, Oak Island in 1795. A boy named Dan Mc Ginns, paddled over to Oak Island, which was then deserted.
While he was there, he saw a pulley and under that pulley the groung was all sunken in.Dan grabs some friends and starts to dig. Will they ever find treasure?
This book has 9 fun unsolved mysteries about factual stuff. So get ready to think hard!
