If I could give it 6 stars, I would...
Funny Business is the best of the Crimebusters Series, one of the best Three Investigators Books, and is one of my favorite books of all time. In this, the 8th (I think) book in the "Grown Up" Three Investigators, the detectives try to have a normal summer vacationand make money by selling on some comics they buy. When they are at the comics convention however, their plan is foiled when the comics are stolen. The book blends in well written human interest, Jupiter's continuing love troubles, with action, a well written plot, and a quite astoundingly accurate perspective of the comic book world. As a fan, I am used to the misrepresentation and incorrect views of most writers on the strange and covert of comic book fans, but the writer's picture of it is perfect, down to realistically crafted superheroes and the shady purloining of artists work by editors.

Impressive Study of the Founding Father
This book is excellent first and foremost because it brings together almost all of the pictorial representations of George Washington ever produced. The book includes the artwork of Gilbert Stuart, John Wollaston, Jean Leon Gerome Ferris, Charles Willson Peale, and many others in addition to engravings. This book also contains a vast text which is lengthy by necessity enabling the book to cover the entirety of Washington's life and includes the development of historical thought in the years since Washington's death. The book also includes an enormous amount of interesting information on Martha Custis and her children and other family relations. Whether a person is a devoted researcher of George Washington himself or the colonial period or the American Revolution years or all of the above, this book makes an excellent addition.

Should be read by every student of the humanities.
In an age of diminished expectations, this book remains a source of hope. A strong argument is made that politicians do not infact define an era, nor are they the fount of understanding.

The great blue heron : a natural history and ecology of a seashore sentinel
Published in Unknown Binding by UBC Press ()

Definitive resource on a crucial environmental icon
Ecobeetle has concerns for all species and habitats and the great blue heron is a favorite animal. Beautiful and majestic in flight the Heron is the sentinel of the shoreline and wetlands. Throughout British Columbia this species is under threat through loss of habitat and nesting sites due to encroaching development. The appearance of a thriving heron population is a measurement of a healthy ecosystem. Unfortunately as Robert Butler describes and summarizies in his book 'The Great Blue Heron' that the status of the heron and it's recent struggles with the rapid development of BC's Fraser Valley is a foreshadowing and environmental warning concerning the health of all west coast animal and marine life. Conservation and protection of this magnificent bird is of paramount importance for the Great Blue Heron is a west coast icon, a symbol of our health as an enviroment. Ecobeetle highly recommends this book to anyone with a concern for species at risk or an interest in natural history.

Autobiographical, biographical, inspirational, instructive
Bob Danzig was the senior corporate executive in charge of the Hearst Newspaper Group for two decades. During that time-and through his career leading up to that point, he met movers and shakers and a lot of "ordinary" people who made a difference in one way or another. In this book, he's tried to capture a wide range of experiences and perspectives-almost too much-to make his points about leadership.

The autobiographical thread starts at the beginning of the book and continues all the way through. If you're interested in selected aspects of the life of a highly involved newspaper man, this book will provide you with one historical anecdote after another. Danzig shares many of his experiences with people of significance and, well, other people of a different kind of significance. His professional life story weaves through the book-in disjointed pieces. I found myself wanting a stronger stream of consciousness, a more connected flow of this man's life. He is obviously a key player kind of person, but the reader never gets a full story of Danzig, the man.

To present and illustrate his nine powers of leadership, Danzig shares the stories of men and women who exemplify the powers he enumerates. He provides evidence for his points, describing how each role model lived the power he describes. Then a third person's comments are inserted to validate Danzig's points by lauding the celebrity. Some of these role models are well-known. Others are not as familiar to us, if known at all. As one example follows another in a well-designed flow, they help Danzig make his powerful points about the role of leadership.

Readers will learn about 9 Powers: Quality, Innovation, Inspiration, Perseverance, Passion, Character, Charisma, Energy and Enthusiasm. The instructional thread can be followed, interwoven with the autobiographical and biographical threads. While sharing some of the experiences of an important newspaper man, you'll gain from the knowledge and perspective he learned from the people he met and quoted in this book.

For a thought-provoking and inspirational read, pick up a copy of The Leader within You. You'll learn a lot about leadership, the leader with in you, and what you can achieve with the resources you have.
