An Access Workbook
This was exactly the book I was looking for. Plenty of books explain database concepts, some explain Access concepts. This is a workbook that shows you how to USE Acess, rather than explaining it to you. It won't explain why things work, but it will show you how.

I had a general grasp of database concepts but needed practice in using Access. This book gave it to me. I wouldn't buy this book as my only Access book. But if you've been reading up on databases, and still can't create the application you need, this book may help.

All three books in this series are great!
I had to learn Access for my job, and found this three-volume series. The books were designed for classes, but worked very well on their own. The second book built on the basic topics (creating tables, forms, queries, reports, etc.) that were introduced in the first book. It used a step-by-step method, and the examples were real-life, not some widget company, which really helped. I am not a computer whiz, but I picked up this difficult subject without too much trouble!

Genuine hands-on training.
Contains seven (7) projects consisting of many hands-on lessons. Excellent (but also optional), real-world follow-up questions and "Applying Your Skills" sections. Far replaced from typical "Exam Guide" books which give you lots of book knowledge but not as much experience, this $23 book provides true learning. More training books should be like this.

Mumbo Jumbo
This book is full of lots of technical information that help understand the program to its fulliest extend. There is a large array of information that left me wit ha better understanding and a clearer view. This book is great for quick lookups and quality information. This book doesn't leave my side when I am at the office.

I Highly Recommend Access 2000 Essentials Advanced
This book is very clearly written and easy to follow. I consider it quite a find as it was the about only Advanced Access 2000 book written in a tutorial format that [website] had.
(I'm presently studying the other tutorial Access 2000 book, Access 2000 Essentials Intermediate, which I also recommend.)

Good read
I enjoyed this book for the most part. I particularly liked the character of Cat St. Clair. Her relationship with God is genuine, as she learns to trust Him again after a traumatic incident. And her relationship with Dominick is also very intriguing, as they learn to center it around God. The only disappointment to me was the second part of the novel. The revelation of the truth behind the traumatic incident was a big let-down for me. After over 100 pages building up to the revelation, I expected something more interesting. But, overall, I would recommend this book to someone who enjoys Christian romances.

We are dreaming!
THis is a lovely romance. Traumatized by something that happened earlier in her life, Catherine St. Clair is sure she'll never be happy again. That's before Dominick D'Angelo enters her life. As their relationship progresses, Cat discovers something terrible about the man she's come to love and wonders if she'll ever be happy again. A must read!

Awesome assistance for passing the exam
I used MOUS Essentials books for both the Access 97 and Excel 97 expert exams. They were really good for the exam preparation. I passed both exams on the first try. The PinPoint software that comes on the CD with the books is great practice for the exam. It enables you to get used to the same interaction as you have to use in the actual testing environment. I did experience a few "glitches" in the software, but the technical support was very helpful, and the overall practice that it gave me for the test far surpassed any little problems I might have experienced. I highly recommend the whole series of these books for anyone interested in taking any of the expert exams.

Good book for School/Train/Coarse use, not as a reference
I found the book to be very good if you need to learn Access from the beginning or intermediate, and wants to sit down and follow the steps and work with the book. For teaching students/class, or as a self study it is a great book. But if you are interested in getting more technical information, "Inside Stuff" as the book sayes, you need another reference book. The book would have gotten 5 stars as a schoolbook if it had an extra page or two for each lesson about what you just learned really does (what happens behind the fancy window you created). I hope the Access 2000 version will have some of that :-)

This book helped me pass the certification exam!
I had learned Access on my own using the three-volume Essentials series by these same authors, which I really liked. I got a copy of this book and went through the whole thing. Even though I am not really a computer whiz (and was really nervous), I took the test and passed it on the first try. Here's a hint: If you are using this book to prepare for the MOUS certification, you might want to spend a little extra time on attaching macros.

don't expect kiss and tell...
This memoir is consistent with what I have observed of Smith over the years: intelligent, organized, interested in the world outside of basketball, publicly reserved, and loyal to a fault. The last two characteristics make the book a little frustrating to read: Smith will not name names or criticize his former players or coaches, though if you are fan of Carolina basketball you will know the names to fill into the anecdotes and incidents he describes (e.g. J.R. Reid's suspension from the 1989 ACC tournament semifinal for missing curfew.) Nevertheless, it is far better than most other sports memoirs (i.e. he actually had a life off the court)and should broadly appeal to people not especially interested in basketball in general or Carolina in particular.

The inside story from the master of the game
For years we've all wondered just how he does it -- from telling freshman Michael Jordan to "knock it down" in the final seconds of the Georgetown game to resting his starters in the final minutes of the '93 national championship. How does he know? This book offers outstanding insight into the man and the game he mastered. If you care at all about college basketball, you must read this book. There will never be another Dean Smith.

At Last, Dean Speaks
This is what every die-hard Carolina basketball fan has been waiting years for-an opportunity to hear in-depth from Dean Smith. This book is a wonderful example of what a great teacher Smith is. The stories are great and we finally get to learn a little about the personal side of Coach Smith. A must read for all North Carolina enthusiasts.

Sargent at the Boston Public Library
Although lacking in adequate color plates as expressed by a previous reviewer, this text is wonderful in its description of the history of the mural which took Sargent 30 years and was never completed probably because of the controversy arising out of how religion was viewed in public in 1919, a change from when Sargent started it in 1890. The book describes the history of the mural in the context of its time of diverse social, cultural and religious matters. After viewing the actual mural at the Boston Public Library, where it is, unfortunately, covered with dirt but is being restored and cleaned, one will be overwhelmed with this painting and find the book extremely interesting and full of important historical information, as well as understand why this mural is considered one of the most important pieces of public art.

Fascinating!
Promey leads the reader on an insightful exploration of Sargent's artistic and spiritual investment in _Triumph of Religion_. This book has changed the way I look at religious art in public places.

Terrific!
A fascinating book -- a major contribution to the history of American visual culture! This is a Sargent I hadn't seen before! The wealth of visual material in Promey's book (works of art, preparatory sketches and studies, photographs, prints, cartoons) provides testimony that Sargent's art was deeply informed by the culture of its time. It was also, as Promey shows, responsive to the artist's own intellectual and personal commitments. Highly recommended!

Not detailed enough.
San Francisco is a city with a long and unique history. With this history comes a wide variety of interesting and sometimes stunningly beautiful buildings. Wandering the streets of San Francisco, and noticing these buildings, one frequently wants to learn more about them. And that is why I bought this book.

However, I was disappointed by the fact that most of the houses featured in this volume only have the year it was built, who built it, and a very brief description. Often there is only one sentence saying this house was built in Queen Anne style and that it has a tower (self-evident from the picture, or once you actually see the building). The book says very little about the history of each house, why it was built like it was, notable persons that lived there, etc. It also does very little to put the houses in the context of the surrounding neighborhood.

The book features "tours" that you can take to view the described houses, but it doesn't quite pull it off, and the end result is a strange mix of tourist guide and architectural reference that performs mediocre at both.

San Francisco desperately needs a good book to picture, describe and catalog its unique architecture, but alas, this book is not it. It would have been better if the author concentrated the book on San Francisco houses only, instead of the entire Bay Area, and offered fewer houses with a better description of each. Still, it is the best I have been able to find, and it is better than nothing, hence the three stars.

The Best Guide to San Francisco's Buildings
You can look-up just about any noteworthy San Francisco building in this guide to the best. My own choice is the historic Monadnock Building at 685 Market Street. It was being constructed in 1906, but before its west wall was even completed the Great Earthquake and Fire struck. Somehow the building managed to survive not only those calamities but two separate attempts by the army to destroy it with dynamite (hoping to create a firebreak that was intended to save the original Palace Hotel). After the Monadnock was completed in 1907 it was casually referred to as "the railroad building," because it housed so many offices in that business. By 1985 it was thoroughly renovated, however, and the tenants inhabiting it became almost exclusively those involved in either art or law pursuits. As the book recommends, be sure to ask the guard in the lobby for the free leaflet by Hamilton Barrett, the building's own historian. When we went for our copy the guard even contributed a few additional details about one of the ghosts known to frequent the first floor at night. A "Lady in White," she wears a long turn of the century style dress and likes to silently float toward the guard's desk from the west hallway. She then touches anyone who would dare sleep.

Not too much fluff, some real issues.
This book was over-all a delightful contemporary romance with a reasonably interesting plot, and a surprisingly endearing heroine- Kendall O'Reilly is a fifth-grade teacher who opresses the pain from her painful childhood by dedicating herself entirely to her students. Her winning attitude and caring, compassionate ways win over many a child in her classroom.

However, when Jade Zukowski comes to Kendall claiming his young daughter, Cait, no longer enjoys coming to school because of her new teacher, it sets in motion a series of events that make up the story line. Ultmately Kendall's teaching position is threatened, and it's Jade, who, after seeing her for the gifted teacher she is, supports Kendall in her struggle to keep her life's work. As you might expect, both Jade, his daughter, and Jade's father grow close to Kendall thoughout the book, but the romance isn't easily come by, and the book will keep you turning pages to see if the main characters will be able to put their painful pasts behind them. As a whole, it was a worthy read. I admit when I first learned Kendall's nickname was "Pollyana", and well-deserved, I was tempted to stop reading for fear the heroine would be a bit to "cute" to stomach. Such was not the case. Kendall was a loveable, approachable character, making this book well worth your time.

This book is not worth the $45 price tag.
This book tells the student repeatedly to "send the file to Drive A and remove the read only status." However it gives very little attention to relationships and join types. Also there are numerous typos throughout the book; some of which are obvious and others will cause the student to pull out their hair in frustration. This is a decent book if you have a good instructor who can steer you around its pitfalls....

I passed the exam!
I used this book to prepare for exam, and I passed on the first try! It used interesting examples, and I got through it without too many problems. This is a DIFFICULT subject, and I think they explained things really well. There is just so much to remember!

Learning Access over the Internet
As a college instructor of software, I have found this book to be very understandable, challenging and compelling. Students new to Access can pick up this book and work on their own to understand the software with little assistance. Yet the book includes challenging exercises which can force the student to work with myself or other students to figure out how to approach the problem and solve it.

I have found this book to be better written then many others, the layout is friendly and enhances the classroom work. I am able to create labs from examples in the book which bring the concepts to the student with more clarity.

I use this book also to teach Access over the Internet. I provide the students with what problems to work and after completion of my course many have gone on to get Microsoft Certification.

I like this book and so have my students. I will continue to use it for my courses.
