A Book for History Lovers
The book was about a little girl who was asked to deliver a letter to George Washington. There were many problems along the way. One of them was the redcoats, who were British troops.

I liked the book because it was so realistic. To name one thing, Hannah didn't trust everyone she saw.

If you are interested in history, this is the book for you. The author talks about the problems in the American Revolution. For example, the Continental Army had to deal with spies along the way.

Something I learned that I didn't know before was that Americans weren't allowed to leave Yorktown. The British were occupying the town, and prevented Americans from leaving.

good
the book is very good, most of it is true, the author defenetly did some researching. the only reason rated 4 stars, is beacause the part about the children from 12-18 being a hostage,in turn for the protection from their armies wasn't true.

a typical Sunfire book
This book had countless flaws, including historical inaccuracy, but I think the most notable one is that the conflict in this book is supposed to be Rachel, the main character, choosing between being an American and a Jew. It briefly sketches what Rachel would gain by being an American, but not once does it mention anything about being a Jew or what she would be giving up by turning her back on her heritage (which, I might add, she does)! What kind of book does not explore the main problem? I also did not care for the assumption that you cannot be an American Jew--you have to choose one or the other. Having Orthodox Jewish American friends, I know for a fact that this is far from true. Also, I actually prefer a main character who has a personality. Rachel was formulated and predictable--your typical Sunfire book.

Jewish History Lite (and a plaid suit!)
Vivian Schurfranz ain't exactly Jane Yolen, and as the previous reviewer noted, this book- when it comes to the historical details and sociology of turn-of-the-century Judaism- is as thin as the broth in matzoh ball soup. But the Sunfire series (with a few exceptions) is History Lite at its finest, and I imagine that most people interested in reading "Rachel" are not gonna to be too concerned in the lack of authenticity. I know I wasn't- I really liked this book when I was in junior high. There's romance, teen angst, and a gripping description of the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire. But my favorite part of the whole book has always been the cover by Joel Iskowitz- it's really a scream because it features a guy (Nathan) in a bow tie and a really obnoxious blue plaid (PLAID!) suit. There's a smaller picture in the corner of this guy embracing our heroine. I guarantee that this is the only book in the English-speaking world where a romantic hero is depicted in a plaid suit. If you are, like me, a fan of cheesy paperback art, "Rachel" is worth checking out. If you are, however, looking for an examination of eastern European Jewish history, than you might be better off renting "Fiddler on the Roof."

Hello! It's a teenage romance novel!
I love the reviewers going on and on about the historical inaccuracies of "Rachel". The Sunfire books were never meant to be history book-perfect, but an entertaining and romantic glimpse into another time. I read all 32 of the Sunfire books and remember particularly enjoying "Rachel". While the book has its inaccuracies, the important thing to remember about the Sunfire books ("Rachel" included) is that they were intended to entertain girls while getting them interested in history. From there, girls could read non-fiction historical accounts to learn more(as I often did).

Also keep in mind that, during the early part of the century (when "Rachel" takes place), many immigrants DID give up the traditional lifestyles of their home countries to adopt a more "American" lifestyle. So, in this respect, "Rachel" reflects the trends of this time in history.

But, most importantly, this was just a fun and romantic read.

By the way...another reviewer's description of the plaid suit on the cover was HILARIOUS!

No matter how you slice it, it's still awful
As a devoted fan of Vivian Schurfranz's young adult "Sunfire" romances of the '80s, I was quite looking forward to this book. It's time travel! It's romance! Two of my favorite subjects. What could go wrong, right? But... dear lord...it was AWFUL! It seems that Ms. Schurfranz couldn't make up her mind what kind of story she was writing- so "Another Time" floats somewhere between being a very boring modern-day "Sweet Valley High"-esque romance, and a ghosty love story featuring some British guy who died back in American Revolution days. The time travelling bits in 18th century London are really the only interesting parts of the story: they actually read as if Ms. Schurfranz had fun writing them. The rest of the book, unfortunately, reads as if she wrote them while she was asleep (or perhaps extremely medicated). I can hope she does have the excuse of being asleep or medicated, because only that would allow me to forgive her for making the entirely bone-headed mistake of having some supposedly brilliant historian claim that Valley Forge happened in 1776... NOT 1777-1778 (when it actually happened). I mean, come on, Vivian, this is stuff any grade school kid could look up in the World Book Encyclopedia! AARGH! So, for anybody who wants to read a time travel romance with a American Revolution angle, go to the library and check out Elizabeth Marie Pope's "The Sherwood Ring." It's a wonderful story. Please don't waste your time and hard-earned money on "Another Time, Another Love."

This book depends on what you like
I usually don't read this type of book so if you're into love stories you might like it, but I didn't really. I read it, not enjoying it and reading every word but reading to see if it picked up. it sorta did but not in the way I usually expect books to. My favorite part in the book was when she was taken back in Time for the first time, and from then on I didn't like it. If you like love stories with some parnormal twists go for it. But if you dig fantasy, or hard historical fiction I wouldn't recomend it.

It's wonderful!
I found that this book was wonderfully written! It was incredibly romantic. I just simply fell in love with the book. Once I picked it up I couldn't put it down. I have read some of Vivian Schurfranz's books but Another Time, Another Love is the best. I recomend this book to all historic romance lovers!
