Sweet moments and memories
The lovely and sweet stories easily capture the attention of my three-year old daughter (who has English as her second language). The stories are beautifully read out, with wonderful background music. Almost every night my daughter and I listen to several Little Bear stories before she goes to bed. We will often discuss the stories afterwards. This is the closest and most cherishable moment between us. The unfortunate thing is that she is most unwilling to turn off the cassette player, which somehow often delay her time for bed.

a favorite at our house
Our daughter is 2 1/2 and loves all the stories in this book. She asks to have Little Bear for her bedtime story several nights a week. She even acts out some of the stories in her pretend play and "does" the things that Little Bear does, like going to the moon and making Birthday Soup. This book is certainly a family favorite.

Great story of caring and being young; a classic
This and the entire Little Bear series are classics: wonderful, witty, warmly illustrated stories of caring that my daughter and I enjoyed reading over and over until she learned to read for herself with these I Can Read books. Read them and you'll love them.

Just got this and must tell the world!!!
What this book does is teach a chilkd that the only person that they can truly rely on is themselves. It teaches a child how to be self aware and alerted. It also allows the parent to bond with the child through lesson of education for both. This book also has alot of extras that all parents should have, like a list of emergency contacts and information on how to put together an I.D kit. this alone is worth the money.

Perfect for single fathers.
As a father I always try to find ways to protect my chiuldren. This book teaches everything I needed to know. A easy book to read and easy book to use as an educational tool for my kids.

Powerful ansd informative
The book gets strait to the meat ant holds your attention until the ending. Maurice Woodson did a wonderful Job. I recommend this book very much.

An Adventure with Billy Bunny
This book is beautifully illustrated, as are all of Maurice Pledger's books. I have been reading these books to my now four-year-old granddaughter for over two years. She has learned colors and how to identify and count the various items in the pictures. The books by Maurice Pledger are her favorites. She never tires of having them read over and over again, although we have a very large collection of children's books.

Billy Bunny
This book is beautifully illustrated. It is my son's favorite book and we read it almost every night. He cannot read yet, but he loves to uncover the animals behind the pop-up's. He is delighted when he finds the animals. The last page is full of butterflies and he always sqeals in delight.

A cute book. We all love it.
This is a wonderful book that subtlely shows the stages of the butterfly laying the eggs through to the emergence of a butterfly. I would definately like to order a 2nd copy as the original copy has been read so many times. This is a keeper. I would highly recommend this book

As a kid, I loved it!
I have the English version, but I love this book! The story line is cute, and the artistry is spectacular!! It makes you feel that even though you may be small as a child, you can be as big as a monster!!

just as fun in Spanish
I was afraid the text would be too long or the pictures too scary for my 4 month old to enjoy this, but I was wrong. She thinks it's great, and we love looking at the monsters together.

One of our favorites!!
I bought this book because, although I'm not completely fluent in Spanish (yet!), I wanted to expose my son to different languages. I love Where the Wild Things Are, so this seemed an obvious choice for us. The story is wonderful and imaginative. The illustrations are some of the best in children's literature. Some of the pages in the book have no narration. Only pictures. So it appeals to younger book enthusiasts who aren't quite old enough to read. One of the best additions to your home library you'll ever find!

The masterpiece of Irish literature
This is an extraordinary book, described by the well-know author E.M. Forster as "here is the egg of a seabird - lovely, perfect and laid this very morning".

The author, Muiris Ó Súilleabháin, is an Irish-speaking boy growing up on the Great Blasket Island (An Blascaod Mór). He describes his childhood in the twenties on this 100% Irish-speaking island in Co. Kerry. The population of the island never reached 200, and life there was very archaic - resembling the society in Europe thousands of years ago. Nowhere else in Europe did the shear joy of speaking and love of words live on as here, where thousands of pages of folklore has been collected as well. This love of the language is obvious in this vivid book, in which Muiris presents an affectionate, lively and interesting account of a way of life that no longer is.

Despite being published 70 years ago, the book still feels fresh and manages to blend fond memories and humour in an extraordinary way. This is definitely THE book to buy for anyone interested in the Irish way of life.

musha...what a great book!
Twenty Years A-Growing by Maurice O'Sullivan is one heck of a "coming of age" story. I'd never even heard of it until a friend of mine told me that he was reading it. I'm sure glad he did. This is a great book!

I've actually read several coming of age stories recently. I didn't plan to...it just kind of occurred that way. Some of them were really good (David Copperfield by Dickens being one of them); but none of them, Copperfield included, spoke to my heart like Twenty Years A-Growing.

Twenty Years A-Growing was translated into English from Gaelic. I personally find this astounding. They (whoever "they" might be) say a book always loses something in translation. Yet Twenty Years absolutely sings in English...the translation is so powerful that the original must truly be a thing of beauty.

It is an autobiographical tale of growing up in the Blasket Islands off the coast of Ireland around the time of the first world war. For me at least, it was a thing of wonder to be able to enter into this world which has since moved on. It is a story told in a wonderfully simple yet almost lyrically beautiful way. Each chapter is a story in itself. The story as a whole slowly ingrains itself upon your heart and mind.

I felt an affinity with Maurice and his friend Thomas. The adventures they find themselves in ring true even as they entertain the reader. Likewise, the character of the grandfather in particular now feels like an old friend to me now. I particularly appreciated some of the wisdom he espouses to Maurice.

I dare anyone to read this book and not be charmed by the lives of these wonderful people who lived almost a hundred years ago in a kind of societal setting that seems all at once foreign, yet somehow more sane than today's world of constant "time management" in pursuit of hollow "muchness" and "manyness."

It does not happen often that I do not to want a book to end. I usually approach the end of a book with satisfaction. Rarely am I left wanting more. Yet that was the case with Twenty Years A-Growing. It is a truly special book.

Fascinating book about a life style gone by
Twenty Years A-Growing, or Fiche Bliain ag Fás in its original Irish, is a humorous and well written book about the sometimes hard life at the great western island, An Blascaod Mór, off the cost of Ireland. It tells about the everyday of the islanders in the beginning of the century in a surprisingly modern and lively way. The language of the Island was Irish, and although the Great Blasket is now abandoned, the Irish language still lives on in the mainland parishes in this area. I strongly recommend this book to everyone interested in Ireland, its culture, the Irish language or readerswho just want a fun and good book. I myself have only read the whole of it in its Irish original, but the passes I've read in English shows a well-done translation

...C, catching colds....D, doing dishes....
My daughter loves all the "Really Rosie" books. She was introduced to the Really Rosie CD performed by Carole King (also available on Amazon!) on her 1st Birthday and now, a year later, she knows all the songs. As far as the books go, we own: One Was Johnny, Alligators All Around, & Chicken Soup w/Rice. These books are well written with clever art work by Maurice Sendak. Plus, they are really cheap!! Highly recommended :)

A Awesome B Book C Creativity Concoction by Sendak
Wow! This is the best alphabet book ever! With words such as "N Never Napping, O Ordering Oatmeal, P Pushing People", along with adorable pictures of the goofy alligator pulling these stunts, this book is the love of many young children. Any child who misses out on this book is missing out on a treasure!

Makes a GREAT 5-K Program Song!!
The 5-K Classes where I was student teaching this year used this book set to music in their end-of-the-year program!! The hand motions and the "lyrics" were ADORABLE!!! When I saw it at the library, I just knew my son had to have a copy of his very own.

A Must for any child's library
My mom bought this for me when I was a child and we read them so much we wore them out. The second set she bought was for my children and we are well on our way to the third set. Nutshell means just that - child sized books that look just like Mom sized ones. We read all four 'lil books' every night. Your kids will love them too.

The joys of repetition
If you have children you know that they love to hear the same stories over and over and over again. If you are a good parent you'll be required to read the same books night after night after night. Some books can take it, others you'd put in the shredder if you had one handy, and were devious enough to blame the children themselves for losing it. To our shame, some of us have been that devious.
The Nutshell Library, however, can be read a thousand times and each time the reader finds truth, beauty, life lessons, and the best darn rhymes around. Even a shy parent finds the ability to read with verve and feeling, night after night after night. My personal favorite is Alligators All Around, unless I happen to be reading Pierre.

Classroom teacher's favorite little books!!!
Of all the books that I have in my classroom library, this little set is the one that the children have asked for again and again. I've taught for over 20 years, and have read many, many books over those years. With this little "nutshell", Sendak has truly captured the heart and soul of a child.

Pure Delight
This is truly a wonderful book. I notice it is being reprinted in Spanish, but not in English. Publishers take note and bring this charming book back!

fantastic
Wish this book would be reprinted! I can't believe it's no longer available. Anything with illustrations by Maurice Sendak is great. It is suspenseful, with sly humor. I read it to many classrooms and kids loved it. Bring it back.

MY childhood Favorite
I had this as a child and I have looked for years to find a copy to give my niece and nephews. I know they are big readers and I wanted them to have the same experience I had with this book. It is one of the fondest memories of my childhood and I will not give up the hope of finding a copy.

House of Sixty Fathers
I read this book aloud to my sixth grade reading class. They loved it, and always wanted to hear more. Its also a great way to introduce students to some of the history of China, Japan and US involvement in the war there.

My 3rd grade son loved this book!
Boys can be picky readers, so I always take notes if they actually love a book. My 8 year old carried this book everywhere and told be about it every night for a week. Besides Redwall or Harry Potter, this is the first book he has raved about.

Brought back memories...
I told my young son about what a good book this was when I read it growing up, encouraging him to read it as well. He too enjoyed it, and I read it again in my fifties. Excellent book, would certainly encourage children to read it. Now in his teens, we still use a memorable quote from the book, "the heart understands without words".

A Coven of Sealys
When I was showing dogs, I had the pleasure of spending time with a "coven" of Sealyhams - they were playful little witches, for sure. This book conveys the basic disposition of the breed and the deep love an owner can have for his Sealy. Highly recommended.

Amazing book, two generations of fans!
I loved it as a kid and had my husband read it years ago. Some of Jenny's quirks became permanent jokes between us (like when she passes out yet still wants syrup on her pancakes...)My 7-year-old son, a tough customer, also thinks the book is hysterical. It's funny on so many levels and the illustrations are beautiful.

a great first chapter book for the youngest ones
I have read this book to my daughter since she was about 3 and we return to it at least 3 times a year. The language is simple and witty, with a wonderful depth of feeling for Jennie and her desire to gain "experience". The darkly humorous chapter with Jennie attempting to placate the Baby is one of Sendak's best pieces of writing and both child and parent will find themselves imitating Baby's shouted speech with glee. This is a wonderful book to read aloud, but take time to savor the illustrations. Their off-kilter warmth caps a great reading experience.
