PRACTICAL AND READABLE
This handbook is perfect for the second year psychiatric resident on an inpatient service, or the mental health practicum/intern student in a community mental health center. The authors review basic concepts of psychotherapy and then apply them to the individuals with serious mental illnesses seen in these settings.

As a teaching attending, I found this book to really fill the gap left by the residents' overly abstract "Introduction to Psychotherapy" course. Many interactions with patients/clients are potentially psychotherapeutic and this book gives readers numerous examples.

Creative Self-Hypnosis: New, Wide-Awake, Nontrance Techniques to Empower Your Life, Work, and Relationships
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall Trade (1989)
Authors: Roger A. Straus and Peter A. Straus
Amazon base price: $9.95
Used price: $3.00
Collectible price: $6.95
Average review score:

Excellent low-hype instruction in self-hypnosis!
Straus' book is one of the few reasonable, low-hype self-help books out there. It is a thorough, clear and exciting book, with exercises that are illuminating and easy to do. There is a lot of excellent material on what hypnosis is and how to best use it to accomplish one's goals. This book, and its companion book, Creative Self-Hypnosis, bear little similarity to the lurid, sensationalistic, and shoddy popular books out there on self-hypnosis and mental training...this is the real deal, by a practicing clinical sociologist and hypnotherapist. A very very good and useful book.

Learning in Science : The Implications of Children's Science
Published in Paperback by Heinemann (1985)
Authors: Peter Freyberg and Roger Osborne
Amazon base price: $23.00

phenomenal!
while so many school administrators worry about improving standardized test scores, they fail to care whether students actually comprehend the most basic science concepts. rote memorization is not the answer, as it has been proven that children will regurgitate what is expected of them for an exam, without actually changing the way they innately feel about scientific phenomena. afterwards, the majority of them will revert back to their original ideas. the authors stress the constructivist viewpoint: it is imperative to acknowledge and respect children's existing ideas about science -- be they right or wrong -- when teaching new concepts and elaborating upon old ones in the science classroom. once the basics are learned, the rest of the world is a cinch. all science educators should read this one, for they cannot help but become better teachers for doing so. phenomenal!

The Time has Come....Finally!
I've been waiting for this very book for quite some time now. Carroll's photography has never been collected in a full form like many other photographers. Previous books have been light on material and all too heavy on the photographs of young child-friends. This book gives a more even account of Carroll's photography---even going so far as presenting the photographs as he did so in his own albums. Rather than classify his photographs, his albums show a wondrous variety of images---a skeleton of a fish, a landscape, a child-friend, a famous painter, a sculpture, etc.... Though it concentrates on Carroll's one hobby, Roger Taylor's essay is as good as any biography, being a hundred or so pages long. Edward Wakeling contributes insightful captions to each photograph in the Princeton Collection---for all are included! What more could one ask for? Wakeling, one of the leading experts on Carroll with a database of information, even offers his list of all photographs taken by Carroll, a list that will be continually updated. He even gives his email address for those who may have lost photographs.
An indispensable book for the researcher and a delight for the casual photography fan.

I never expected anything from this little bundle, but got the world. Isn't it amazing, that in the last place you look comes insight. What makes sense, stop there. Thanks to John Roger for compiling such an amazing direction. I cannot wait to read the large version of this baby. I have only just gotten to the web and am glad to share what has been with me since the book came into my hands.

Great book for tourists and nontourists
My wife and I really enjoyed using this book. Walks on Capital Hill to Magnolia to Pioneer Square revealed many things that we did not take the time to notice before.

Our favorite was probably Capital Hill, it tooks us about 3.5 hours to complete and we've done it many times since.

Makes this World a Better Place
This is one of the best books on the planet. The author has succesfully put into words the personal rewards people recieve when they donate their time or other resources. I feel compelled to get involved in some project asap when I open this book. Like the other books in the Life 101 series, you can read this book through or open to any page for inspiration or meditation. Many books about success emphasize giving as essential to personal success; this book clarifies that and motivates readers to share themselves.

Attaining the Wealth You Deserve...
...another of the great Life 101 Series Peter McWilliams (this is with John-Roger) is over 500 pages of solid gold advice and affirmations. The authors define wealth (40 pages of ways of looking at life), then money--and how important it is in the overall scheme of things. They show you how to enjoy what you already have...the section "You Can Have Anything You Want, but you Can't have Everything You Want" is kind of a summary statement for the entire journey presented here, but then the authors tell you, "Obtaining Is Easy; Maintaining is Hard"...they suggest that it is all an Inside Job. One which requires a bit of maintenance. They then tell you how to get more of anything you want. Money. Popularity. How to win the Powerball. (Just kidding on that last item.) Well, if they don't have the "How to" on winning the Powerball, they have the "How to" on how to enjoy the winnings. Every other page is an appropriate quote to suit the
writers' text and one can find enjoyment out of reading these alone if one is so inclined. Oprah Winfrey gives the gist of the
authors' major intention. She says "Before I had money I was really quite happy. And, I will tell you this...I never would have gotten the money If I wasn't happy to begin with". Again, it is written with those who are Brain Numb (like I am) in mind. Even if you don't become wealthy overnight, you would have taken a step in the right direction to achieve wealth and financial stability by getting this great book.
