Oscar Robertson and the Crispus Attucks Tigers win again
This book is the story of Crispus Attucks rise to basketball fame despite the prejudical climate in Indiana at the time. There is a history lesson in explaining what prejudice existed and how the Crispus Attucks family dealt with it. The book cronicles the high school story of Oscar Robertson in particular and the Crispus Attuck Tigers from 1950 thru Oscar's final high school game as the number one player on Indiana's all star team vs the Kentucky all star team lead by "King Kelly Coleman". I was an Indianapolis high school resident during this period and can speak for the historical accuracy and emotional insights brought into focus by the author Randy Roberts. For those of you who enjoy basketball, this book is a worth while purchase.

Good Book
I read the book in my local library. Being an ex-student of Robert Beck, I wanted to see the final product of something he had been working hard on since before I knew him. I was completely impressed with amount of research put into the book, and the work putting into cross-referencing. Whether you want to look up a subject of a film, such as heart attack, or a film he was in, it is in this book. It is a good book for fans, and a great reference book for those who need the information.

An excellent book for creative boys.
In Henry Reed Incorporated, Henry spends the summer months at a relitives now retiered farm. He keeps track of his daily adventures in a "journal", uses his imagination and enginuity to fill his time. Henry begins by comandeering the barn as his base of operation, and opens a buisness selling bait (worms if I recall). His discoveries and sense of intreigue remind the older reader of a time not so long lost, and exsposes the young reader to a world of imaginitive posabilities. This book remains in my thoughts evan after 20 years of reading it, and comes highly recomended to all ages' of 'boys'.

A Fantastic book
I thought this book was phonomenal. It is about a girl named Lizzie whos father gets remarried. After that everything changes, she moves from her home to London and has to go to a snobby school. I thought that this book was really good and you have to see the ending of it.

A thorough guide to the art of Mr. Morrisseau
This is a fine book which gives the reader a thourough understanding of Norval Morrisseau's art. Mostly color with some black and white photos. The art is exquisite and Mr. Robinson's love of his friend and his art can be felt with each paragraph. If you want a beautiful art book for your coffee table or simply want to learn more about this fascinating artist (Picasso and Chagall both took in his showing in Paris)- this is a great book. I have several copies in my home...

Slowing down life's pace is necessary: here's how and why!
I have been preparing lectures on stress management and came upon the work of the authors' Use of Time Project which has tracked Americans expenditures of time over decades. This book has caused me to re-think all of my assumptions, and fits in beautifully with some of the brand new books coming out in the wellness field, including Dean Ornish's Love and Survival: The Scientific Basis for the Healing Power of Intimacy and Paul Pearsall's The Pleasure Prescription: To Love, To Work and To Play. Time for Life shows, in methodical yet eloquent thoroughness, that the sense of hurry sickness and time famine is illusory and unnecessary: we in fact have ENOUGH time and money to be happy, yet we think we do not. The final chapter is worth the price of the book: called Brother, can you spare some time? it points out that the pace of life is a political issue, and that the commercialization of leisure can be critiqued and questioned, that while most of us lead lives of unbelievable privilege, happiness eludes us. This does not have to be the case. This is a scholarly book, yet accessible to the lay reader, particularly if you skip around some. The cross cultural stuff is fascinating (eg., Japanese people work longer hours yet don't feel the time famine like Americans do.) It is well worth the careful reading this important topic warrants. I am indebted to Mr. Robinson and Godbey for this expression of their life's work. I am deeply grateful, in fact.

One of the best true crime works ever written
This book was given to me when I was a 13 year old living outside of Houston TX. It was the book that launched my fascination with true crime books of high quality (i.e. Darcy O'Brien,Vincent Bugliosi). I am still fascinated by the case and have heard many rumors in the last 20 years about the actual cause of death. Amazing - that this story still haunts me all these years later. It is out of print and I own a copy I have never lent out for fear of never seeing it again! Also interesting was Ann Kurth's Prescription:Murder which is her side of the case. Not even close to the same caliber as Blood & Money but still interesting. I cannot recommend this book highly enough - find it at the library or a used book store immediately!
A fantastic read! Fantastic research and writing.
Thomas Thompson does a fantastic job of re-telling the events surrounding the mysterious death of a Houston socialite, the investigation into the death, the trial of her prominent surgeon husband, and the circumstances surrounding his murder a few years after hers. This is without a doubt the most gripping story I have ever read. Thompson's research on this project was extensive, and I would imagine exhaustive. It is written as if he were a witness to all the events which took place in this story. It is a story so bizarre, it would have to be fiction, but sadly was a very true story of adultery, greed, and vengeance. If you can find the book I highly recommend you buy it. You will have a hard time putting it down.
Blood and Money
'Blood and Money' is just about the best book I have ever read regarding true crime. I am an avid Ann Rule fan but Tommy Thompson's tale of murder(s)in Texas was spellbinding. I have read this book probably 20 times and will read it again and again. This book was the best purchase I have ever made at a used book store.

somewhat disappointing
this is a comprehensive but very basic description of start up investing. if you don't know what VC stands for, this is an excellent book. however, if you have some understanding of new ventures and their finance than you won't find much of value. the authors fills 400 hundred pages with such gems as "the tough part about negotiating equity is that at the end of the day, there's only 100%". the prevalence of referenced quotes is also annoying. "whenever possible, try not to back an inflexible, one product firm" is referenced to "Gordon, 1999". is the reference, or even the thought itself, really necessary to include? any angel that needs this sort of advice should just put his money in the stock market. and why bother with the "whenever possible?" last time i chceked investing was at the discretion of the investor. this book is comprehensive, but most sections are overly simple and ignore important subtleties. if you want a much more useful, insightful and informative book, and particularly if the space you're looking at is >$10M, try "high stakes, no prisoners" by charles ferguson
Good read and excellent lists!
One of the very few books that describes both the entrepreneur and the angel side of early stage deals. Anyone interested in understanding early stage investing will benefit from a thorough read. This book has excellent contact details for matchmakers and others.
In-Depth, Practical Information on VCs and Business Angels
"Angel Investing" is a terrific reference for anyone preparing to seek early-round financing for a business. As the co-founder of a start-up, I have been searching for practical, real-world information on the capital market and the differences between the various options.
This book has been useful throughout my research. It contains an eye-opening comparison of Venture Capital groups and Business Angels. It also gives practical advice on what capital investors look for, what to include in your business plan, what to look for in an investor, as well as how to value your company and negotiate with the capital firms. I have found it invaluable and it has saved me countless hours in my search for seed money.
