It would have been nice for Haynes to include the Cadillac engine computer trouble codes, but you have to buy a seperate Haynes manual to get those.

This book lays out the pieces of medical choice-making in the context of the probabilities that underlie all desision making. It suggests that principled gambling is seminal to medical choices and makes suggestions, via numerous clinical vignettes, of how medical practice needs to change so that patients and practitioners can make better choices rather than those based on blind faith, short-term clinical efficiency, and shamanistic egos.
In short, this book deconstructs the mechanistic (know-it-all) paradigm of medical practice and replaces it with a probabilistic (don't know it all) paradigm that would, in most cases, be fairer and kinder to all.
Medicine would be a better place if the suggestions in this book were adopted.

I suppose its time a new updated edition is published.
However the commentry on a older kernel does not reduce the value of this book. It is a good book to understand the OS concepts as applied to Linux kernel. This book can be a good companion to Silberschatz/Galvin's "Operating Systems Concept" in a college course.
Another value of this book is purely historical, in case someone desires to compare older and newer kernels with a high-level view.
The author's goal seems to be to introduce you to a good portion of the kernel source code. Understanding the kernel source tree, the build process and the code itself is much easier once you have read the first few chapters of the book.
The book avoids teaching you or even using examples in assembly language. This may annoy you if you know assembly language, or thrill you if you don't. For example, the extremely time-critical interupt service routines, which are written in hand-optimized assembler, are explained with some C-like pseudo code.
Although the book is quite short, it is well written, and it explains the Linux kernel implementation in sufficient detail. Although it was intentional, some readers may wish that the book included more explanation of the concepts before the implementation is introduced.
A suggested companion text would be Andrew Tannenbaum's "Operating Systems: Design and Implementation".

I have a 1991 Isuzu Rodeo 3.1L V6, a model which is not covered too well. The pictures in the manual don't usually help, since they are irrelevant to my vehicle. Especially with regard to the engine. My particular year's engine might as well not exist according to this manual. Just recently my water pump went out on me, and replacing it was entirely different from that described in this manual. The picture of the 3.1L engine in the Haynes Manual was not mine! (this is just one example of when i've been let down).
Though an experienced DIYer or mechanic will know how to fix most things in his car, this manual was little help aside of general auto repair information. Indeed, I learned a lot simply by "flying blind" into much of my auto repair, making the manual irrelevant.
The conclusion: Call Isuzu (Helm publications, I think) and order their service manual, which I haven't done yet, but I plan on doing. I'm pretty sure that will be vehicle specific and should be much more detailed/helpful for your particular vehicle. When you call, they might ask you for 2 different versions UCR or UCR/S. I *think* the standard ROdeo is the UCR version, UCR/S I believe is for the Rodeo Sport (amigo?)].

The prcedures given are adequate. I just wish this book had more general technical specifications for the car. I guess that's too much to ask from a manual that covers 15 model years.
