A day by day look at Thoreau
"Oct. 22nd, 1837. 'What are you doing now?' he asked, 'Do you keep a journal?'-- So I make my first entry today."
Thus begins Thoreau's Journal, made up of more then two million words and covering about twenty-five years of his life. No other work of Thoreau's better exhibits his discipline as a writer and his devotion to the natural world. In the Journal can be found the fragmented foundations of masterpieces such as Walden, A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers, The Maine Woods, and Cape Cod. But what is perhaps more interesting to a reader of Thoreau's Journal are his thoughts and insights on topics such as friendship, love, religion, nature, bravery, heroism, war, slavery, the art of writing, and, most important to Thoreau, the art of living. Anyone with any interest in Thoreau will find his Journal to be an invaluable aid in understanding and following the life of one of America's most profound prose writers

Ideal Textbook for Introduction to Literature
I chose to use McMahan's text because it saves me time as an instructor of English. Composition comprises the most significant portion of a student's grade in a college literature class, and this text teaches students how to write an essay about literature from the beginning of the process to the end. I also like the bonus of a novella, The Awakening, which is often taught at the intro. level but under separate cover. Such a deal.

Wonderful history of the Bows
The Medicine Bow Mountain Range is in southeastern Wyoming, and this book gives a very good chronological history of this area. The authors begin with the earliest known evidence of man inhabiting this area, then move on to talk about how the Indians, fur trappers and mountain men influenced this part of the west. William Ashley paved the way for the Overland Trail, Jim Bridger helped to explore this region and John Fremont mapped this part of the west. Chapters on the logging, mining and grazing industries are also very interesting. The railroad had a major fundamental part in the development of this area. The authors also talk about the Medicine Bow National Forest and how till this day, it is still trying to be a land for multiple use. I really enjoyed this book, there is a lot of history here.

Great Academic Book
I use this book literally every day in my research. It is never far from my writing desk. If you are a cognitive psychology student you should consider buying it while it's still in press, as it reviews pretty much everything you would want to know about human memory. On the other hand, it's highly technical, which means most people who don't plan to study cognitive psychology professionally should probably consider something easier to read, like Baddeley's recent "Human Memory" or Dan Schacter's "Searching for Memory".

The Only Crichton Analysis Out There
And what a great one it is. This book was the only considerable document I could find for thorough research on Crichton and his thematic ideas presented in his various works. With one solid chapter for each book, no area was left uncovered.
Up to date and extremely accurate. Recommeded 100% for Crichton fanatics and researchers alike.

Good book
Library Journal's review of this guide: "Combining encyclopedic coverage of destinations with loads of practical information and atlas-type maps, the series illuminates the wonders of nature but emphasizes the peculiarity of a place's people and their folklore."
