** Not quite as good as some of his other titles **
This was the third Goddard title I read .. & I was a little disappointed. I wouldn't recommend reading this title first .. try (say) In Pale Batallions or Hand In Glove first. I've given it 4 stars because the writing/language is still superb Goddard. I deducted one star only because (personally) I found the ending a little far-fetched.
A beautifl ending
I have been a book addict since little and specailly a mistery novel fan. Recently, I often got so bored with junk publication of mystery novels but When I first encountered his book I knew that he was genius! TAKE NO FAREWELL, PAINTING THE DARKNESS, PAST CARING, INTO THE BLUE, HAND IN GLOVE, BEYOND RECALL, OUT OF SUN.... I still have more Goddards to read but my personal top 3 so far would be PAINTING THE DARKNESS, PAST CARING and INTO THE BLUE. CLOSED CIRCLE is a good book although it may lack the twist and mystery compared to other books by Goddard. But I am so attached to this book and keep reading in order just to reach the ending, which is my favorite part and the most beautiful ending by Goddard which envoke visual and emotional sensation as if I were there. The last few sentences, I can even recall as it is so beautiful and so sad. (This novel is not as sad as other Goddard's books, though) I would love to read sequal if any.
Like Watching a Hitchcock Movie
Robert Goddard's books are all pretty much alike - and they're all pretty good: Crimes committed in the past coming back to haunt the protagonists later on.
Written in beautiful prose, the likeable and believable characters in Mr. Goddard's novels stumble through twists and turns, uncovering truths that turn out to be lies in the end.
A lot of research and a great feel for the times that the story takes place in (the 1930's in this case) are another trademark of Mr. Goddard's skills.
Reading any Robert Goddard novel is like watching a Hitchcock movie, and "Closed Circle" is one of the best.

Better than the movie it was adapted from!
There were quite a few major variations from the film this was adapted from, but its for the better. I love the movie, but the book stands on its own as a real fun read. Recommended for sure!

What you don't know may hurt you...
Has some intresting points. Some things mentioned in this guy's book have still gone unheard by many authors. Appears the C.C. may have a real "hidden agenda" and use the word, "Christian" to get to those who may not know what their real story is.
Yes. Buy it. Just may be worth your 10 bucks (as priced by Amazon).

A fascinating account of the making of a masterpiece.
Anyone who knows and loves the work of Haida artist, Bill Reid, will be fascinated by this behind-the-scenes account of the modelling and casting of 'Spirit of Haida Gwai'. Modelled first in clay, then cast in sections into bronze, the completed work is an enormous canoe full of figures from the mythology of the Haida Indians of the Northwest Coast of North America. The figures of the Eagle, the Raven, Bear Mother, Mouse Woman and Dogfish Woman are exquisitely carved in a style which is unmistakably that of the Northwest Coast, yet it also has a distinctly contemporary feel that reflects Reid's ability to draw upon his heritage while remaining creative and original in his work. The construction process is documented in detail with over eighty black and white photographs, while the text explores the symbolism and meaning of these tantalising figures from Haida mythology who share the canoe and a common cultural ancestry. The making of this wonderful sculpture must surely be one of the greatest achievements of Reid's long and successful career as a highly talented and original sculptor and jeweller. For those who know Reid's work this book is a must, providing a fascinating record of his working methods. For those who have not yet encountered Reid's work, this book provides a golden opportunity to meet some of the characters which dominate his work. All will marvel at Bill Reid's skill as a sculptor in producing this beautiful, immense, and impressive piece of work, a process which has been beautifully and sensitively recorded in the pages of this book. A must read for men approaching the time of mid-life.
Crossing the Soul's River is a very informative, thought provoking book you want to discuss with other men. I appreciated Bill Roberts understanding and ability to offer the tale of one who has been there. The use of scripture enhanced both the book and the value of a rite of passage. One of the first conversation's I had after reading the book was with a friend, I started telling him about the book and his comment was " I thought it was just me". Since completing the book, I have been seriously considering a group to meet, discuss and help each other thru the process of mid-life. Good Job, Bill Roberts!!

great for articulate 5-year olds
I don't quite understand this spooky Halloween book, but my 5-year old loves it. He insisted he was going to get it from the library every week for the rest of his life until I suggested buying it. It has added the words "stupefied," "albatross," and "foolies" to his working vocabulary. The story is a little confusing but it's got a good Halloween spirit and look to it.

An enthusiastic intro to the new President, Bill Clinton
Because this Scholastic Biography of Bill Clinton was published in February 1993, the month after his first inaugural, it is more about how Clinton became President than it is about his presidency. Jack Roberts begins with Clinton begin nominated for President at the 1992 Democratic Convention, then goes back to the beginning when Bill Blythe was born in Hope, Arkansas. However, it is clear throughout this book that the focus is explaining Clinton's path to the White House. While not exactly partisan, this biography clearly wants to be enthusiastic about Clinton's election. Of course, this is not unique; I have found similar biographies about both George Bush and the new president, George W. Bush. On the back cover it appears there was a sub-title to the book, "Bill Clinton: A desire to make a difference." Roberts also makes an effort to highlight issues and concerns that would be of particular interest to young readers. The last chapter articulates Clinton's "New Covenant," that was supposed to be his vision for leadership. I am not sure any one even remembers that was his intended name for his administration, obviously chosen with an eye towards the history books. "Our 42nd President: Bill Clinton" is without illustrations, although the back cover does have the now famous photography of young Bill Clinton shaking hands with President John F. Kennedy back in 1963. In retrospect, given what came to pass over the eight years Clinton was in the White House, this book seems rather naive, but as an introduction for young students to the person who had just been elected President of the United States, it does a nice job of providing as much political ideology as it does biographical detail.

Amazing man with many dreams but one true goal for life!
Well the book gave many details on his life of where he was born and so on but the main information was given in such context that one could read it if he had not tried! The book also tells a point! It's point would pretain to the mear fact of survival! You never stick to one idea, you let your mind flower!
