Make sure your professor actually uses the book!!!
I feel I wasted my money really. My class never uses this book. The book merely is an exact copy, if not less material than what my professor teaches. I gave it 3 stars because frankly it is a good book. It can provide a lot of information. The one thing I saw that the book is definitely lacking is graphs. I am an extremely visual person, and without graphs, the information really doesn't click.

Just make sure your professor uses this book intesively before buying it, or else you will be wasting a lot of money, and if you are a starving college student, this book can easily be the same price as 8-10 large pizzas, thats a 8-10 weeks of eating...think about it.

not bad
THis book is pretty straightforward and helpful for my class but we didn't get to use it that much. It is worth having.

as for the content
well, i was a little surprised to see this book (as probably many others as well) being judged by the extent as to which it matches the lectures held by other professors.
i just stumbled across it today in my university's library. as i am studying in germany, i of course do not enjoy the teaching of either of the authors. but knowing that oftentimes american authors' explanations tend to suit my way of learning and - most importantly - understadning things better than those of german profs, i gave it and try and took a peek into it.
it was a pleasure to see how easy things became then. i have to admit that i already had some background on the subject from my lectures so far, but those were and are being held in a completetly different style. this book actually makes a really good read (it's fun!) and that is the best way to get a hold of things, ain't it?
i'd have to say that if one actually wants to learn something and not just read what his/her own professor talks about in class, this is an excellent (supplementary) reading.

i admit, though, that the price is a downside of this otherwise very recommendable product.

An Erudite Compilation
This book should appeal mainly to Russian librarians and scholars. Most of the book lists the various holdings of Romanov and Imperial Palace library materials in the holdings of the New York Public Library. The compilation is by Personage (alphabetically from Emperor Alexander I to Grand Duke Vladimir Aleksandrovich, who has the greatest number of listings); then by Palaces and finally by The Fekula Donation, Summer, 1998. The listings are amply cross indexed by 1. Name and Title, 2. Places of Publication, 3. Publishers. 4.Date of Publication and finally, 5. Subject. There are only 10 illustrations of which 3 are in color. Annotations are minimal and confined mainly to descriptions of bindings and signatures without any consideration as to the importance of any particular book. One must have a working knowledge of Russian to understand most of the titles in the checklist as they are transliterated from the original Russian. The 47 page introduction by Robert H. Davis, Jr. and Edward Kasinec is fascinating as it tells how the books found their way out of Russia especially during the Soviet era. Only a man of such experience as Mr. Kasinec could write such an important essay. This is not a coffee table book.

Wishful thinking from Insurance Company Defense
Particularly when compared to the classic Prosser & Keaton, it is pretty clear that this text is geared toward tort "reform." There are long excerpts from law review articles written by the authors (how modest.) Conservative points of view are offered without "alternatives." The history of torts in the common law is rather distorted, particularly regarding strict liability which these authors present like it is a surprising new invention. The Products Restatement is overemphasized. And too many cases that come out aberrantly for the defense are included. If nothing else deters you from registering for the class that uses this book, consider how you would feel about a book called "Tax Law and Alternatives" or "Contract Law and Alternatives." This is law school folks. The alternatives are Med School and B-School. As long as you're in law school please try to find out what the law is. What somebody thinks it should be is all well and good, but it is not helpful to present "alternatives" as thought they are the current state of tort law.

1st Year Tort Law
You will most likely not buy this book for fun but because your 1st year law professor tells you to. Most parts of the book are very dry and it takes a long time to read it properly. The cases are good, standard Tort cases. The most helpful explanations can be found in the Notes and Questions. While the book is dry bordering on boring, the Notes and Questions at the end of each chapter will give you a much better understanding of the information. Franklin and Rabin deal with physical injuries, non-physical harm, causation, trespass and liability.

Not a great reference book, which it doesn't pretend to be. Very much a standard text book to be used for first year Tort Law.
