Good but a little abbreviated
I'm going to be a first-time Eastern Europe traveler this summer. However, I have travelled extensively and one of the first things I look for in a travel book is a book that offers information on all aspects of a country. For example, I felt the information on countries like Yugoslavia and Macedonia was a little abbreviated. There are some people out there who would actually like to do an "off-the-beaten-path" trip in those countries and Lonely Planet wasn't able to help me plan for this. The information on Greece was definitely helpful, but for those who plan to travel on their islands, I'd recommend Lonely Planet's Greek Islands which had exactly the right amount of information I needed to make my travels there worthwhile!

Abbreviated, but good.
We purchased this book before going to three of the countries covered, because there are so few books that cover Eastern Europe as a whole.

Although the information was limited, we found it helpful in general terms. It also whetted my appetite for going to the other countries in the book!

Indispensable book for a beautiful region
I can only speak for the Yugoslav section in this book, since it is the country I am most acquainted with.
Generally speaking, the LP team did an excellent job researching Beograd, but information on the rest of the country is poor. They don't mention a thing about Serbian institutions like Studenica monastery; they omit everything about the Fruska Gora and there's not even a word on the charming town of Sremski Karlovci.
I wonder whether the information on the other countries is equally poor. If that is the case, I'd rather tour the region on my own without any book at all.
However, one improvement with respect to the previous edition is they are now including Kotor (But Ulcinj is not so much recommended as before, which I don't know why since the beaches are much better than in Budva).
With regards to Novi Sad, their suggestions are very poor, even in what concerns to lodging. My recommendations are: add the Fruska Gora, Srem Karlovci, Raska and probably Nis.

mixed opinion
This is a coming-of-age story, with Community Theatre serving as both a background and a catalyst for the growth. I'm very involved with Community Theatre myself, and much of what is written here rings true. However...

The grammar and spelling in this book are atrocious. I can't tell if this was a purposeful decision by the author, since the story is being told by a 15 year old boy, or if it was just plain sloppiness by the author. All I know is that it was annoying.

Also, you should be aware that there is a fairly high sexual content to the book. Personally I don't have a problem with this, but some people do (and I wouldn't give the book to a teenager to read).

Hilarious!
This book is in the tradition of Vonnegut. It's at times bawdy, lusty, and ribald. Others it's poignantly touching. I ended up loving each of the broadly drawn, quirky unforgetable characters. It's extremely well plotted. I guarantee you won't put it down till the end. Most of all, I grooved on the delicious prose. Under the biting satire and thickly packed writing, lies a deeply discerning yet compassionate view of humanity. This is a most promising new author.

Love this book
I let someone borrow my ninth edition and my friend lost it. So I got the tenth edition. I love it. It gives breif history on the popular artists. It gives enough background so you are able to use it for references. I'm not an art major, but I really love the fact that it compiles many artists together. I was at the bookstore and I was looking at individual artist's books. That was when I realized how much I love this book. All the great stuff are in here.

I was introduced by my art history class. But now it's a hobbie to just read up on it.

A Solid Resource on the Subject of IBD
This compilation of various articles written by IBD experts from across the country is an official Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America publication and that endorsement alone should indicate its quality and content. Every chapter in this book is well written and scrupulously up-to-date with excellent references and resources. Chapter subjects are very holistic in that both the medical and emotional aspects of IBD are represented. There is even a chapter on the use of alternative medicine in the treatment of IBD! Definitely purchase this book for your library.

Silicon Processing for the Vlsi Era: Process Technology

A good summary of modern Silicon processing technique
A thorough, if somewhat dry (makes the wall street journal look like a Sweet Valley High novel) treatment of modern semiconductor fabrication processes. This text is intended as a detailed overview of the processes involved in semiconductor design, particularly MOS technologies. In this regard it works well, through it shouldn't be considered a reference manual for the wafer fabrication engineer. A good summary for people who, like myself, work in the semiconductor industry, but do not deal with the details of fabrication processes on a daily basis.

Truthfulness and Tragedy: Further Investigations in Christian Ethics

Truthfulness and tragedy
I like this book because I can find Stanley Hauerwas' early arguments against rational foundationalism. Even though it is an essay-collection, this book is sufficient to show what his points are. Many materials are related with medical ethics. He succeeds in showing what we miss on issues of medicine as such, care for the handicapped, population control, and ethics of death (suicide and euthanasia). One of difficulty I felt is whether his argument on the standard account of rationality is effective. Rejecting that account of rationality, he tries to show alternative account based on narrative. I agree to narrative account of reason, but I am not sure why he has to reject the standard account. That account explains our ordinary actuality just as narrative account shows ultimate reality. So I expect him to argue more synthetic approach, but this is not the case in this book, at least. Personally, I like the terms,'truthfulness' and 'tragedy', for I think they show what Christianity is all about relevantly.

A Look at a Sad Man
If you are interested in how the Nixon and his staff handled the Watergate issue then this is a wonderful look into the private conversations that took place. The author does a good job of setting most of the conversations up with comments as to what the conversation covers. There are also some explanations at the beginnings of the major areas of the book. I would have preferred a little bit more editing out of some of the conversations, but they do serve a point in the overall book.

What struck me the most was just how desperate Nixon kept getting. I almost started to think that maybe he even believed the lies he was telling. It was so fascinating to see how he would formulate a "cover" story and then keep presenting it to staff to see if they would replace their understanding of the events with his. What is sad is the amount of denial that Nixon was sliding into at the end. He was justifying his actions so hard, I started to think that he was trying to change reality with his force of will.

Many of the conversations are very revealing and interesting. I wonder if at times Nixon forgot he was being taped? Why would anyone think that what he was up to would stand the test of time and be thought of as acceptable behavior. You get a good understanding of why Nixon and his family fought so hard to keep the tapes private. In my opinion, these tapes have set back all the work Nixon did after leaving office to rebuild his reputation. My only warring would be that this should not be the first or only book on Watergate that you read. It will help you if have read something else to give you some back ground on the conversations. Overall the book is interesting and a good addition to your Nixon collection.

Masterful Logic Leads Astray
A fine addition to any Watergate library. Kutler is a dazzling professor who often turns fine logic and thinking to the wrong conclusions. As a litigation historian he can shed copius amounts of illumination onto America's law. However, the fine paths which are followed by Kutler often lead to the wrong conclusion. He has made brilliant arguments for the separation of church and state which in the end only elegantly confirm the opposite conclusion. Our high law not only encourages religous affiliations in civic life, but that government cannot in fact prohibit this free exercise of religion by not only any individual, state, judge or other federal official but by even the federal government itself. It is always a joy to consume a Kutler premise, but even more enjoyable to find the true conclusions.

A New Insight Into History
If you are interested in how Nixon and his staff handled the Watergate issue, then the book Abuse of Power: The New Nixon Tapes by, Stanley Kutler is a great one to read. Kutler does a great job of setting the private conversations up with comments as to what they cover. He also gives some explanations at the beginning of the major areas of the book. I was happy that they did not edit much of the conversations that took place because they serve a good point in the overall book.

Lots of Countries, Little Information
I have been a faithful consumer of Lonely Planet products for the last five years. However, this collection does little more than offer superficial information on every country in Central Europe. If you want to go anywhere besides the capitals and most well-known tourist "traps", forget it. I was particularly dissapointed with the book's treatment of Germany and Switzerland. Very vague, very minimal. If you want to visit any of the countries in Central Europe, buy the Lonely Planet Guide to that country or look for a different publisher. Sorry guys, this one doesn't go in my travel bag.

the fantastic planet
This book is fantastic. I was amazed at how thorough a book could be. These authors also have a great sense of humor. Lonely is an oxymoron. This book is very comforting. I highly recommend this book.
