His Blue Heaven
If you've read the prior collections in this series and you thought things couldn't get any better, well you ain't seen nothing yet. This installment of the Swamp Thing graphic novel series contains just six issues from Alan Moore's run (#51-56), but that does include the double-sized blockbuster issue #53. In any case, quantity is meaningless here because Moore and his artistic team have reached the dizzying heights of their powers, unleashing the most mindboggling and gutwrenching stories in comic history. The basic subplot running through the series at this point is Abby's arrest for immoral conduct while Swamp Thing was off saving the universe, and her escape to Gotham City. As Swampy is searching for his true love, she is being held by the authorities in Gotham. In the overwhelming "Garden of Earthly Delights" (issue #53) Swamp Thing unleashes his full elemental powers on the uncaring city that imprisons his lover, and even temporarily defeats Batman in the process. Sadly, Swampy is supposedly assassinated by government agents, and finds his spirit floating in outer space. This is where Moore's imagination really goes into overdrive, giving us the highly unique and moving story "My Blue Heaven" (issue #56), a tremendous tale of loneliness and soul-searching, where Swamp Thing is blue in more ways than one. This episode is also another pinnacle for the artistic team, and much credit must go to colorist Tatjana Wood for her moody and unconventional work. By this point regular artists Stephen Bissette and John Totleben had mostly moved on - Bissette was only doing the covers and Totleben's only major contribution is "Garden of Earthly Delights." The artistic torch had been passed to the outstanding team of Rick Veitch and Alfredo Alcala, who barely miss a beat in keeping the series' haunting and lovely artwork rolling. The only sad thing about this edition of the Swamp Thing series is that fact that Moore's run would soon come to a close.

Not like the others
Ever since the Alan Moore's Swamp Thing Graphic Novels have been coming out I've been making sure to get every one. I like the EC horror feeling to them. Most of the time though something bad happens to ordinary mortels and Swamp Thing shows up and is the means to an end. This time things are different.

Abby Cable, after being accused of "hugging vegstibles" flees to Gotham City. There she is picked up again and put on trial. Swamp things returns from the "American Gothic" tour and looks everywhere for his beloved. When he finds out she's in jail in Gotham needless to say he's [angry] and rips Gotham a new one. Now Swamp Thing is the agressor terrorizing all those innocent mortals untill he gets his love back and not even Batman can stop him (Yeah, Batman can kick anyone ..., but swampy is now on a God level. He turns Gotham into a jungle on a whim)
Trying not to give too much away my favorite Swamp thing story in the book (Perhaps the whole series) is "My Blue Heaven". It's a beautiful, exotic, weird and engrossing tale. It's about the human condition set in a weird alien world. Jonathan Lethem would be impressed. He's the writer of "Girl in Landscape" and "Amnisia Moon". Check him out too.

Helped us make this important and rather emotional decision
My life partner has been battling with Hyperthyroidism for 15 years, going on and off PTU and in and out of remission. Her latest annual blood work indicated that she was Hyper again which re-opened the dialog about what treatment to choose (Drug therapy, Radioactive Iodine, or Surgery).

Thyroid for Dummies provided a detailed yet very readable review of what the function the Thyroid glad is, Thyroid disorders, treatment options, etc. If you are facing a decision point about treatment for a thyroid disorder or have Thyroid wellness concurs then I think you will find this book very helpful and informative as we did.

In the end we choose Radioactive Iodine treatment. The unbiased facts and wealth of information provided helped us make this important and rather emotional decision in a manner that enabled us to move forward with confidence. Of note, the author Dr. Rubin prefers drug therapy as the first mode of treatment for Graves Disease. As this had already been tried in our case and did not provide a predictable and sustainable treatment we choose Radioactive Iodine over surgery.

Thyroid for Dummies
I just had thyroid surgery and I picked up a copy of Thyroid for Dummies so I could get informed about what was happening. Thyroid for Dummies answered all my questions, and gave me all the information I needed to understand what I was going through. After reading this book, I know more about the thyroid gland than I did before! The book is written in easy to understand language, and uses humor which put my mind at ease. I would highly recommend this book to anyone with thyroid disease, anyone undergoing thyroid surgery, and anyone who just wants to know more about their thyroid gland.

101 Ways to Get Your Adult Children to Move Out: (And Make Them Think It Was Their Idea)
Published in Paperback by Main Street Books (1996)
Authors: Rich Melheim and Richard Alan Melheim
Amazon base price: $6.95
Average review score:

Sure-fire advice for clearing the house of offspring!
Rich Melheim was a pastor at my church. My parents bought me this book (I have a signed copy!) and I took the hint! I haven't moved back home since... The illustrations are campy and humorous, the sugestions border on and often exceed the ludicrous, however these snippets of wisdom are a guaranteed recipe for success when it comes to ousting offspring that have over stayed their welcome (i.e. they now make more money than you). The advice also works well on house guest. One word of cautions: excercising the most extreme of these measures may result in extensive and costly therapy for your children!

Grendel: Devil by the Deed
Published in Paperback by Comico the Comic Co (1988)
Authors: Matt Wagner, Matthew Wagner, Rich Rankin, and Alan Moore
Amazon base price: $127.00
Used price: $12.00
Average review score:

The best graphic prose ever written!
This book is a visual and literary masterpiece. Matt Wagner took a novel approach to the comic book format and created the poetic dark story of Hunter Rose aka Grendel, the most sadistic and romantic killer in comic book history. It chronicles the birth and death of Grendel in a smoothly flowing pictorial, with text inserts. This book is a must read if you are a fan of the dark and twisted. This is not a children's book by any means

Helps to save money
This is a great reference guide for both the novice Jazz enthusiast and the connoisseur. It is wonderfully referenced and cross-referenced and is easy to read with biographical notes on the musicians and on the music itself and some great photographs of the artists and/or the album covers. With CD's costing the earth this book has given me the confidence to branch out in my jazz selections. I may not like everything that I purchase but I at least I now have a reference point to start at.

More! Better Than The First Rags To Riches
$$$

This book contains 14 true stories of people achieving wealth. It's actually worth four and a half stars, but I rounded up.

I think that this book has more pages than the first one, but I am not sure because it's a mess here, and I can not even find my tv guide tonight.

But I do have the new book (More! Rags To Riches) in front of me, and I like it. I really do.

It's good to read about people making it (you know...becoming successful and achieving wealth). Not intimately making it. Financially making it!

Boost your enthusiasm and imagination by reading this book.

A interesting life story from strange to stranger
Rebound by Dennis Rodman, Pat Rich and Alan Steinberg was a very entertaining and strange. It is about the true-life story of the greatest rebounder ever. It shows ho Dennis' childhhod story. How Dennis went from a super scrub working as a jinitor for crumbs at an airport. To playing in the NBA and making millions of dollars.

It was a very interesting book and for me to say it, it has to be good because I don't like reading booksand I felt this book stimulating.

I would recomend this book because it is definitely, funny and strange. I would give this story three out of five stars. It's not perfect or the best litterature in the world. If you likie true life stories you will like this one. You will see how Dennis became so strenge and how he has became the man he is today.
