This book is meant to introduce the reader to the ancient yogic tradition of Kundalini. It details what the historic tantric scriptures describe and has many illustrations of historic drawings. The concept of Kudalini - awakening body/mind chakras - is described from a Eastern perspective. This also describes experiences of Kundalini by some of the known swamis (holy people).

Please note that this is not a Kundalini awakening instruction book. It is more a scholarly work on describing traditional Kundalini.

If you like to know about traditional concepts of Kundalini, this book will give you a good introduction.

I haven't read this book, but came across this reference in a book by Roland Drolet I am translating into English. "Another example of a word which needs to be demystified is Kundalini, which is nothing other than the sexual energy, that is the mass nuclear energy (E-mc2) liberated during sexual relations. For more details and depth on the Kundalini, see the two excellent works: "Kundalini: The arousal of the inner energy" by A. Mookerjee and "The Tao of Sexology" by Dr. S. T. Chan."

This book is a must have especially for people who work in for corporations or anyone who works with the public in general. It touches on alot of things we never even realize. Even talks about how in relationships we could be victims of a psychic vampire or the predator. Alot of times it is a totally unconscious that a person is draining others of energy. In todays society with all thats going on we need to be aware. Not paranoid just aware. This book is a must have for anyone in a draining relationship,codependant relationships,working in the public or anyone studying the psychic realm. Very beneficial information to have.

This is a very good get acquainted with Reiki book with basics presented in a very easy-to-read format. It contains valuable information generally not presented in many other Reiki books. This includes how Reiki can be used to communicate with nature to replensih your energy, how to realize your dreams, open-up creative flow, deal with the past, heal political situations, overcoming fear of dentist, connecting with people through Reiki, flying using Reiki, Reiki for plants and animals and combining Reiki with other therapies. Hand positions are given with explanations and illustrated with photographs. There are sections on Reiki for treating ailments, overcoming addiction, Reiki for children, dying with the support of Reiki, how to find a reputable practitioner and length and frequency of treatments. Use of symbols is explained, but actual symbols are not given. I found the author's lack of updating Dr. Usui's history puzzling since so much new information has been discovered. I recommend "The Legacy of Dr. Usui" (Frank Arjva Petter, Christine M. Grimm) if interested in the true story and not the fable that has previously been taught. Dr. Usui was not a Christian. Borang's Reiki training came form one of Takata's 22 studenta. Therefore, her orientation for training is toward the Reiki Alliance which I find limiting. However, except for the section on Dr. Usui, I wish I had a stack of these books when I do a Reiki presentation at health fairs.

This is the second book by Kajsa Krishni Borang and is a great little Reiki book. She describes basic level one and level two information including the hand positions she uses with pictures. Also common questions about Reiki are addressed. Kajsa took all of her Reiki training with Wanja Twan, one of Takata's 22 Master students. I was happy about this book. :)

This book is mostly a case by case exampling of the affects of Reiki by a doctor who is a Reiki master. The author does not give any empirical evidence that Reiki works. Niether does she presume that such evidence exists. What the author does give is her many personal experiences with her efforts to provide the best health care that she possibly can for her patients in an Emergency Room enviroment. While the writing is somewhat plain and there are excerpts from the text and other additions in the margins, the book is a good and fast read. I found myself eating up the stories. She provides good basic information for anyone who is interested in learning about Reiki. And lots of information on what to expect from Reiki and possible effects and outcomes. I enjoyed the book alot. I would recommend others who have an interest in Reiki to read it. I am glad to have read it and I am just as glad that Dr. Eos wrote it.

My wife and I both found this book to be very good and we have recomended it to our students. The most important thing that this book did for us was that it showed over and over again that a "little reiki" can be powerful. Dr. Eos seldom has more than a few minutes or even seconds to give hands on reiki to her patients in the ER and yet she chronicles some amazing results. We truly learned that Reiki is limited only by our imaginations by reading this book. We highly recomend it.

This was my first book on the Chakra system and to be quite frankly it has been one of those books I always go back to look for references. My personal opinion is that Anodea Judith, PhD, has done an excellent book, both for the beginner in working and understanding the Chakras as well as the advanced.
Each chapter is dedicated to a particular Chakra. You will learn, the Sanskrit name to each Chakra, it's meaning, location, Element, Function, Inner State, Outer State, Body Parts, color, Mantra sound, Hindu Deity, as well as other deities from other pantheons. Also each chapter has a meditation on that particular Chakra as well as Yoga exercises to harness that particular Chakra to your favor. I have been directed to other books, because people say that there are better books out there. But to be honest this book for beginners is simple and right to the point. Anodea Judith, PhD writing is down to earth, and direct. Think about it, how can 100,000 readers go wrong. If you are looking for your first book on Chakras, you will not go wrong here. This is a good book, full of a wealth of information.

Anodea does it again. This is THE chakra manual. It is a helpful text for professional body/energy workers, and clear enough to understand for those who are new to the chakra concepts. Each of the 7 chakras are explained in detail, both historically and from a western viewpoint. Along with exercises that one can do to enhance the health of each chakra. A MUST for anyone interested in the chakra system.

So is this book meant to be used for reference, as a workbook, or something that you just sit down and read? I use it for all three, and turn back to it over and over again. It is quite a hefty tome, a compendium of information, essays, and inspiration. Judith walks the reader through the chakras, weaving together a variety of traditions to present an accessible and systematic discussion that includes yoga exercises, meditations, essays, and cross-references related traditions with explanations. The essays are hers, but of course the rest of the content is pulled from other sources -- it's not a piece of fiction. What it is, instead, is a resource that I can't imagine not having on my bookshelf.

Self-healing Reiki was good, especially for one who had little previous information on the subject. I took it one step further and purchased the Reiki attunement videos. I could scarcely believe the depth of experience and energy with my Reiki One attunement. It really works!!
Unfortunately, the previous reviews were mistaken that the attunements are within the book. The book provides step by step instruction necessary, but the attunements are received from the videos provided by Emerson. Take it from me....the videos really work!

I have read the book, and watched the video... I am very please with the results from this book. I live in Nashville, and moved from the West coast a couple of years ago. I still have friends that want me to do an attunement over the phone, or thru web cam. I have had success doing attunements long distance, This book, combined with the video is an excellent tool, to give the most novice individual the knowledge, and technique to receive a viable attunement. I would reccomend this book to anybody who is interested in Reiki, and how it can & will work for you.

After reveiwing other comments from a Reiki Master about this book, It was obvious that she either misunderstood the message in the book or was trying to down grade the book for her own benifit. There is no mention in the book about the book passing the attunements to buyers of the book. The attunements are given through a video tape process. I have read the book and taken the video attunements associated with this book and they are powerful. I would hope other Reiki masters do not feel threatened and down grade this book. Reiki Masters charge lots of money to teach others the healing art of reiki. It seems that Barbara Emerson has now made Reiki available to all people rich and poor alike. The biggest reason for the book appears to be so Reiki can be shared by all at a reasonable price. If you fall pray to sour grapes from other Reiki Masters your cost to become a reiki master will be very high and you will get no help with sharing your new knowledge with others. I am a traditionally trained Reiki Master Teacher. I read Petter's book with an open mind, and while I feel his heart is in the right place, his book has a number of inaccuracies which made it not one I would recommend to anyone seeking to learn more about Reiki.

For example:

- On page 15, Petter states: "Technically speaking, Reiki is one of many methods that are part of the Chinese family of Qigong..."

This is COMPLETELY incorrect. Reiki is not Qigong, and Qigong is not Reiki. Both are forms of energy, true, but they are completely distinct from each other.

- On page 71, Petter states: "I have repeatedly stated that Reiki is energy pure and simple. It has nothing to do with religion, astrology, New Age, psychology, personal growth, channeling, bodywork, or even healing for that matter."

This is also wrong. Reiki is ALL about healing! It is also about personal growth. Reiki exists for us to heal ourselves and others, it enables us to grow and help others grow. I don't understand his stance here at all.

This being said, the book contains some interesting information, and some nice exercises. I do appreciate that fact that Petter reiterates that Reiki must be learned from a teacher (one simply cannot learn it from a book, video, or over the internet) and that attunements (initiations) must be done in person.

The bottom line is, if you are interested in learning more about Reiki, find a Master/Teacher near you with which to work. Or, try the following books:

This book coincides with my begining of Reiki practice. I have been in the Health and Healing field for 20 years or more. I knew about Reiki but it never "clicked" right to my ears or to my heart. The stories or legends were too "new age" and did not convince me that Reiki was properly described neither presented in its full potential. With Frank Arjava Petter's "Reiki Fire" we have finally broken the veils of myth and legend, fairy tales and adaptations of the Reiki tradition. This book is a must for those who are interested in exploring the traditional healing systems of this world and Frank Arjava Petter offers to the reader a wonderful opportunity to expand this knowledge. A new generation of Reiki practitioners is unfolding from this information and I cannot but highly recommend this book as an historical turning point for the Reiki movement and for those involved in the natural healing path.

Understanding and development of unity in Reiki is available now! After years of research and work, F. Arjava Petter and his wife Chetna (Kobayashi) have completed the translation of the Original Handbook written by Dr. Usui used in training students.

There have been so many myths and legends born from this source that is it a real treasure to find actual documentation, a validity in the word form. What a wonderful Makana Kalikimaka or "Christmas gift".

This for me was very much a confirmation of "Reiki IS for everyone". The Reiki a technique developed by Usui that echoes many sources; confirming that there is one source. We ARE all one in Mind and Spirit. The body individual is the learning and experiencing tool, seeking its own expression and so celebrates the different forms/types of Reiki. An Obvious example of this is a technique I find I use. In Arjava's book is identified as "The Byosen Technique". This technique is identified in Native American Healing as well as Pranic Healing. Many other cultures use a similiar type of sensitivity to determine problem areas in order to better work with situations. I was delighted to see it identified and recognized in Japanese Reiki.

The things I had questioned in my mind and felt a need to know were included. There are techniques that relate to specific problems such as Obesity and Gallstones and many others. Sometimes herbs are mentioned as well as diet and exercize. Reiki feels more complete with this kind of new information.

Quoted from the book "Intuitive Reiki by Dr. Usui is different: It asks that we free ourselves of the rules. Rules are meant to give us support." ..."Many of you have cerainly worked in an intuitive manner for a long time. I am happy for you--and with you--That we now have the "Official" permission from Dr. Usui to do this!"

Teaching Reiki to Nurses and the Medical community, I was delighted to see the statement that Reiki was to assist or complement and not replace medical attention from the traditional sources. Also references to the vertebrae, specific organs and glands make this book more in tune with the teaching needs of the medical community. The Original Reiki Handbook with it's clear photographs and explanations are a perfect complement to my Reiki Classes at San Antonio Community College, Continuing Nursing Education and I will be integrating the new information as well as offering the book to new students.

This book was very enlightening . The author wrote this in a very unique way, very personal and to the second person which makes it very intimate. This reading was easily absorbed and the graphics make it visual from cover to cover. It covers the meridians and theory in general. Then gives you exercises to help you develop your Chi. Then how to include Chi Gung exercises into your daily actions. It even discusses some things that can be made possible at even higher levels. This book had truly wonderful insight how Chi Gung can help you change your awareness and refurbish your child-like wonder and positive reception for the world just about. All and All a wonderful book!

The brillance of L.V. Carnie is displayed as well as her knowledge of Chi Gung in the most resourceful book on the subject ever circulated through the printing press. Carnie's book, Chi Gung: Chinese Healing, Energy, and Natural Magick, is beneficial to all audiences regardless of age, gender, or occupation. The beauty of Carnie's work is that everyone from the business man, athlete, actor, or housewife can find value in it, apply the techniques, and see positive results unfold before their eyes.

In the fast paced hussle and bussle of modern society, stress builds and energy depletes. In Carnie's masterpiece, she teaches how to relax, to slow the merry-go-round of life, and revitalize your energy regardless of where you happen to be: school, work, home, or any where for that matter. This is only a fraction of the positive energy that can be obtained with the information from Carnie's book. There are virtually unlimited applications that you can find for yourself after reading her book. Unlike most books on the subject, her work reveals the theory and principles behind Chi Gung instead of simply demonstrating a few exercises. The book is very well catorgorized to cater to individual needs and is very simple to follow, making it easy to apply in daily living. This is a must read for those individuals interested in health, longevity, and prosperity.

From a personal stand point, being a highly trained athlete and an Olympic hopeful in the sport of Judo, after reading Carnie's book I am learning to generate and absorb more energy from my surroundings, relax, and develope a more positive attitude due to the results and accomplishments I am witnessing in my own life. By learning to generate and absorb energy, my training sessions have become more intense and longer lasting. L.V. (Lily of the Valley) Carnie's book is a major asset for all athletes and any open minded willing individual.

All professional athletes in any sport could truly benefit from this incredible book. This book could indeed revolutionize modern amateur and professional sports as we know them.

This is my favorite Chi Gung book. What makes it so good? Several reasons, in no particular order. First is the writing style. I'd best describe it as "friendly" or "intimate". It's more like Lily Carnie is talking to you instead of reading a book. It is written in the second person, which no doubt contributes to that effect. Second is the organization of the book. It seems well suited for reading front-to-back, but is really great for skipping around (which is what I generally do). Third is the material. The book starts with a reasonable (and reasonably readable) discussion of the meridians and theory in general (my least favorite part of any Chi Gung book). The middle part covers various exercises you can use to develop your Chi. I love the selection of still and moving exercises included, but where the book really shines (and what helps set it apart) are the sections on how to incorporate Chi Gung exercises into your daily activities. It's a fairly unique approach, one that really works for me. There are lots of examples here and it's my favorite part of the book. The last section talks about some of the things that are possible at higher levels. It serves pretty good incentive to keep working at it.

In short, it's a great book, one I highly recommend.

I agree with the writer from Arizona. This CD could be much better. The concepts are wonderful I would've just liked more clearer guided visualizations with pauses. Doreen Virtue seemed to breeze through the exercises and talk so much that I found it difficult to relax and visualize what she was saying. True, her need to properly enunciate every syllable in every word was distracting and her voice is not the soothest, unfortunately. A more relaxed approach would've been great instead of her reading off her script. I think I'm going to go with the other writer and possibly just make my own tape.

I enjoyed this tape. I use it everyday. It is important to work to have spiritual practice for spiritual power. What I liked most about this tape is that it is the exact length that I can include it in my daily schedule. Most meditation tapes are an hour. I don't have two hours to spare. I use the tape once in the morning and then in the evening. I had especially like that the author suggest you feel the energy of the chakras. I am not a visual person. This helped me a great deal. I would highly suggest this tape and any other from Doreen Virtue.

THIS IS YET STILL ANOTHER ONE OF HER WONDERFUL WORK,...SHE IS AN AWESOME PERSON & VERY TALENTED,..THIS BOOK HAS HELPED ME TO START SLEEPING AGAIN,..NATURALLY,...I WOULD ALSO RECOMMEND THIS ONE TOO!!!

I can understand why Diane Stein's Reiki teachings are so controversial; they fly in the face of those who would like to keep Reiki commercial and exclusive. I found Diane's stated goals for the book to be very honorable and nothing that should offend the true healers in our midst. She writes very clearly and with great compassion. Nowhere does she say someone can receive distance Reiki attunements. But when her teachings diverge from traditional Reiki, she says so, which gives the reader a full opportunity to take her "apocryphal" teachings or leave them.

As a non-lesbian, I found nothing offensive about Diane's repeated use of feminine pronouns. She certainly says nothing anti-male, and she includes the male versions of the Chi Kung exercises.

I don't know that I accept Diane's version of Christ's life, but it's such a small portion of the book and has no bearing on her Reiki teachings.

In my opinion, Diane's most powerful teaching is that true healing, whether Reiki or not, depends on healers who aren't afraid to use their own intuition, which might mean diverging from accepted practices sometimes.

I read Essential Reiki before receiving my attunements. I found this book to be packed with Reiki knowledge, drawings and procedures, I applaud Diane Stein's courage in defying the Reiki Traditionalists that would make Reiki exclsive only to those that can afford to pay. After receiving my 2 distance attunements (for free), over the internet, my kundalini energy activated during Reiki channeling. This book provided crucial information on how to use my kundalini energy during Reiki channeling and passing distance attunements. After receiving only 2 distance attunements, I was able to pass powerful distance attunements for all levels, using this book's attunement procedures and kundalini usage information. Thanks in part to Diane's work, I have performed 50 distance attunements, in one month, for free, at all levels. I found with kundalini activation, that holding my breath wasn't necessary while passing attunements. I always refer attunees to Essential Reiki as it is a complete source of information. I wasn't put off by Diane's constant she/her usage, as I recognize that she is going through past-life healing in this lifetime.

Diane Stein felt a desire tho help others to heal. She felt that touch had the power to heal, became aware of the practice of Reiki and wanted to learn the practice.Unable to afford the very expensive training by a Reiki Master from the traditional school she expended great effort to gain an understanding of the practice of Reiki, the ability to use the healing energy, and the ability to attune others so that they could use the healing energy. She wrote this book to share the information she learned and in the process irritated the traditionally trained Reiki Masters who believe that the symbols published in the book are secret and should not be published.

There is a great difference between sacred and secret. The symbols used in Reiki allow the sharing of healing energy. That makes them special and sacred. To keep them secret limits those who wish to share this healing energy. I don't believe that the creator of all things prefers one group of people over another but loves all equally. The sharing of these sacred symbols is an act of great love.

This book explains very throughly the methods and symbols used in the practice of Reiki and is an excellent reference book for the Reiki practitioner. Whether the traditionally trained agree with her methods or not, they do work and those who are not able to afford traditional training are able to offer healing energy to others.

Every author writes through the filter of his or her own experience. Ms. Stein is openly feminist and Wiccan. I do not embrace either of these ways of life but can still value the information about the practice of Reiki that she has shared with us. I recieved Reiki I from a traditionally trained Reiki Master. When I wished to recieve Reiki II she seemed reluctant to give me that training. I was able to recieve Reiki II and Reiki III from a Reiki Master who was trained by Diane Stein. I am able to share healing energy with others and have successfully attuned others so that they can share the healing energy as well. This is a great gift.

In all things we must decide for ourselves that which is our truth. There is truth in this book. You do not have to agree with all of Ms. Stein's beliefs to find it.
