I love scrap quilts and this is my favorite book about them. In fact my copy is very well read and I love to look at the color photos.

Judy Martin covers a wide variety of patterns (traditional to contemporary) and color schemes. There are quilts with just two colors as well as some that use every color on the color wheel. Some quilts are shown in different combinations or sizes.

There is an introduction to scrap quilts and sections about fabric collecting and storing, color choices and the appropriate use of scraps as well as some hints on sewing and cutting efficently. The instructions are well illustrated and easy to view. At the end there is a section of more block patterns that could be made with scraps including some ideas on how to place scraps with each block and the necessary templates for these blocks.

Judy Martin's "Scrap Quilts" is a great book with superb pictures and extremely well-written directions for a number of beautiful quilts. The quilts include some traditional ones as well as new and innovative ones.

An excellent resource for U.K. book collectors and collectors of first editions originally printed in the U.K. Highly sought-after authors are profiled in essays written by field specialists and current values are provided for all books in pounds. As the creator of a website centered around James Ellroy's collectible first editions, I was particularly impressed by Michael Johnson's entry regarding Ellroy's collectible American and U.K. first editions. Johnson also provides excellent essays and bibliographical information regarding other collectible contemporary crime and mystery authors. Overall, an informative and extremely current resource for book collectors.

I'm quite pleased with the material presented in this book and the clarity with which it is presented. I don't know how much credit to give to Mr. Pring versus the charting method he illuminates, but Pring makes candlestick charting entirely accessible to any reader possessing the intellectual tools requisite for competent analysis and trading. To be certain, I'm much impressed with some of the advantages candlestick charting provides the trader over conventional western charting and so a good part of my favorable impression of this book may lie in my approval of the techniques that Pring describes.

My own trading style relies somewhat on technical analysis but is also heavily influenced by fundamentals and market psychology. What I found most attractive in Pring's candlesticks was the way in which he focused on what this or that pattern revealed about the attitudes of market participants not just from day to day, but more importantly during the day. As a swing trader, I find this approach absolutely essential in detecting shifts in sentiment on a relatively short term basis, but in a broader context than within the electronic strictures of pure day trading.

Above all else, I give Pring credit for simplifying this analytical technique down to its basic components and including excellent descriptions and charts. While I'm inclined to conclude that most Technical Analysis books are overpriced, I believe that any book that can give the trader reliable new tools is ultimately worth the price. I believe this book fits in that category. I recommend this volume to anyone who desires more than rudimentary knowledge of candlestick charting. I doubt that any discussion of candlestick charting extending beyond Pring's teaching would really add much to the topic. I highly recommend this particular volume.

This book is more than just a price book. It uses a series of questions to help you nail down just what you are looking at. In the BASICS section you find the different ingredients in Water-glass, Soda glass, Potash glass, and lead crystal. The book is small enough that I carry this with me.

Miller's Antiques Price Guide Professional Handbook, its a treassure, i been collectible then since long time, and its the type of book what will teach you about antiques,a litle bit of history,good test,old fashionable living and decor, and if you are short of monney you will start apreciating your grany's decoration and learn what is really good ! By the way i have 2 volumes of Miller's Antiques Price professional Handbook 1994 in perfect conditions if you are intrested.

All I have to say is if you are thinking of buying this book, do it. If you have not read Gorky Park or Polar Star first, then I strongly suggest you do so. The excellent aspect, I believe, of this book is its connection with the past two. While I enjoyed Gorky Park, Polar Star is where I fell in love with reading about Renko. By the time I read through Red Square, I came immediately online to see if there is another Renko novel to read. There is, Havana Bay, thank goodness, I don't know what I would have done if there wasn't. This is the perfect series of books to read, for anyone who does not mind a little challenge. Enjoy!

I can't speak for the latest Arkady Renko novel, "Havana Bay," having not read it yet, but for me, the finest of the first three is the magnificent "Red Square," one of the most gripping and memorable thrillers I've read in a long time.

For those that have never read any of Martin Cruz Smith's novels featuring modern fiction most's unique detective (the others being "Gorky Park" and "Polar Star"), you might be surprised by what you find. Smith is no Mickey Spillane--he is a literate, cerebral writer and a first-rate novelist with an unusual gift for both probing, insightful characterizations and heart- pounding, edge-of-your-seat storytelling. His Renko novels can best be described as Saul Bellow meets Robert Ludlum, and Smith's voice is distinctive and unmistakable.

"Red Square" finds Arkady in post-Cold War Russia, investigating murder and intrigue in a society rife with corruption and desperation. He also reunites with his great love from "Gorky Park," and Smith's description of the reunion is among his very best writing. "Red Square" also features Smith's characteristically convoluted plotting, which can at times get confusing, but eventually resolves itself with the most satisfying ending he has yet written for a Renko novel.

All in all, "Red Square," despite a rather slow first 40 pages or so, was one of the most fascinating and unforgettable thrillers of the decade. Outstanding.

The Seven Wonders of The Ancient World is one of the most complete and illustrative books that I have ever read on the subject. Even the 1990 reprint, going on 13 years without a revision, is still accurate. Each chapter explains in detail one of these seven ancient monuments, starting with it's history, location, purpose, construction and description; and ending in a vivid account on how they came to be no more or the way the sites still stand today. The images included within the text also show us, besides conceptual pictures of the monuments through the ages, a glimpse of the way that archaeology reconstructed the pieces to the puzzling appearance of some of these monuments and the way archaeologists interpreted ancient accounts of people that lived to see these wonders in their heyday. The book also contains two chapters in which the authors describe other lists of ancient wonders and the way those lists that we know today came to be created. The task of the authors in putting together in one book all the information of these seven wonders is a remarkable work of scholarship, mostly given to the fact that six of these seven monuments no longer exist and the great number of different accounts that survived to our day instead. This is a must-read book for all of those interested in archaeology, history or ancient civilizations.

This book should enjoy wide appeal, and particularly interest the armchair archaeologist lurking in all of us. Everyone has heard that there are 7 wonders of the world, although fewer know what they were and fewer know anything about them. This book is a great starting point to jump into the subject, combining the few documents describing the wonders with commentary, modern archaeological evidence, illustrations, and even some speculation. A very good introduction for someone with a sense of wonder, the love of travel, and a fascination with the past.

The chapters in this book describe the seven wonders of the ancient world - the Great Pyramids at Giza, the Hanging Gardens at Babylon, the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, the Temple of Artemis at Ephesos, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, the Colossus of Rhodes and the Pharos (Lighthouse) at Alexandria. Their history, location, purpose, building and description are provided along with many illustrations and drawings. The last chapter gives a list of other monuments which could be considered wonders, and tells why the actual seven wonders of the ancient world were chosen. Recommended reading for all interested in history.

Yes, this guide is a must have for all Metal record collectors. I would recommend it for CD collectors too, as it has a great discography of just about every metal band. But I was dissapointed to find out the author devalued many of the US record releases while raising the values of the UK releases. I know record collecting is more popular in the UK, but there are still many collectors here in the US too. This book makes it hard for the US collector to figure out what his collection is really worth. Case in point, GNR's banned robot cover sells for about five times what the guide lists by many dealers in the US. Anyway, I guees it is just a guide so don't take the values too seriously. Still, a great reference guide for the Metal Record collector.

If you are into 80's Heavy metal and vinyl collecting you must get this books, which is mainly a catalog. It's very helpful on things as Band's LP's, EP's, release year, etc. If you have a missing LP from the 80's metal and don't know the label, year or even more, you want to complete your collection dig this.

This book is perfect for those who simply have an interest or the hard-core collector of rock and roll's wicked stepchild, Heavy metal. Loads of photos, bios, and assorted gems, this takes some of the guess work out of ammassing one's collection. The only complaint I could possibly offer is that there needs to be more concentration on the newer sub-genres of Heavy metal (black metal, death metal, etc) although they are addressed.

Roland S. Martin has definitely put into words thoughts and feelings that may resonate with many of us, but we are unable or unwilling to admit. His brutal honesty regarding the attitudes of black america may sting, but you are forced to continue reading, because the brother captivates you. At times he is a silent observer reporting on the commentary, but most effective when he lets the reader experience his pain and sadness. He is a much needed voice of black america. This book should be a must read for young black men and women.

Every young black man should read Roland's book. He has quite an insight and speaks of the reality of events of the past and present. The kind of wisdom that Roland has only comes from God.
