very good book
This book is very good and very complete in discussing various monitor lizards and basics about monitor for the beginner and intermediate keeper. Husbandry is mentioned in some detail. A good book to start with.

THE excellent, one-source starter book on the subject.
Dick Bartlett is not only a top-notch photographer, but an excellent reporter. His friendly, succinct style covers the essential nuts and bolts of monitor and tegu care. If you are looking for a good beginner's book on this subject, start here.

Good if you haven't yet chosen a python
Helps in choosing a species, but offers little care advice relating to the care of specific species. Still, I consider this a must-have for its basic information on sexing snakes, helping them shed, and ensuring a proper feeding schedule.

www.thesnake.org
9 main topics about 95 pages , understanding pythons , acquiring your python , caging , general husbandry , medical problems , breeding , incubation , species , useful addresses . A good book for the beginning python owner and a good source of general information . Full-color photos !

A MUST FOR PYTHON HOBBYIST
Since I don't have a pet python yet and i don't want to have an accident so I bought this book in order to familiarize everything before buying one or two if possible.

For me, this is the most comprehensive book about pythons on how to select, care, breed and medical nutrition and behavior on such lovable snakes.

So, hobbyist or the like... buy this book first in order to be a more effective and good caretaker of your own python... =)

Beautiful photography, but not much information . . .
This book did a good job of telling about the different families of anurans, but there was very little practical information for the first time frog keeper. It isn't too bad of an investment, though, if you are trying to figure out what kind of frog you have.

Great Pictures!
This is a good picture book which the kids just love to look at over and over. It is also fairly comprehensive on the "how-to's" of raising all kinds of frogs.

Wonderfull pictures,great info!
This is a nice soft cover book my 12 year old loves it. It it easy for kids and adults to understand. Lots of great pictures and overall information! Its a very popular book I sell on my we page "Frogs and Amphibians". I own and use this book.it Covers many types of frogs and toads.

Good book with general information
This is a great book to get you started in the hobby. This book is loaded with valuable information in an easy to read format with loads of pictures and examples. The basics are covered as well as a few of the more in depth topics. The chapters on breeding and hybernating are a little confusing and more information and ideas could have been added. The differences in the requirments needed by different species could have been covered also. This is a general care book. Nothing to fancy. If you want specifics buy a book on the species you are interested in.

A great book
This book is the first thing a potential turtle owner should buy before getting a turtle. It is inexpensive and loaded with the right information regarding the care of turtles, both aquatic and terrestrial species. The best part of the book is the section about which turtles make good pets for a first time owner and which turtles don't.

Great resource for the new turtle owner
When I got my turtle, Tim, I didn't know a thing about turtles - so I got this book as well as did a ton of research online. This book has TONS of good information (and pictures) about how to care for and house turtles. My turtle is several years old now, and is very happy and healthy. I recommend this to anyone who is looking to get a pet turtle. The reality of turtle-keeping is that it is a LOT of work. Turtles are dirty, and even with high powered filters their tanks need constant cleaning. I didn't know what I was getting in to, but it's worth the effort! Turtles are wonderful pets, and this book will give you all the basic information you need to know.

Do NOT use this book
I took Latin I and II using the Ecce Romani series. When I switched schools, I had to switch to using the Cambridge Latin Course Unit 3 hardcover book for Latin III. It is a very poorly written textbook. The new vocabulary for each chapter is not put together very well in a way that makes it easy to learn. Since there are many little stories in each chapter, as opposed to the one big one and occasional second enrichment reading in the Ecce Romani books, there is vocab under each story. They tried to make a vocabulary list at the end of each chapter, but it never contains all the vocabulary listed under each story. The Ecce Romani books do a much better job of condensing the vocabulary and putting it all in one place, making it easier to learn. The Cambridge books are very confusing to look at and read because only proper nouns are capitalized. The back sections of the Cambridge books also only contain a Latin-English dictionary, so you're out of luck if you want to look up what an English word translates to in Latin. The Ecce Romani books contain both an English-Latin and Latin-English dictionary. The Ecce Romani series also does a much better job of explaining the grammar you learn each chapter. All the Cambridge books do is give you an example, not actually telling you how to form it in a sentence. The Ecce Romani books also have more challenging practice problems, and more of them, than the Cambridge books. On a more artistical note, the Ecce Romani books are much more interesting to look at, with color pictures that don't look like quick sketches, like the black and white Cambridge pictures do.
DO NOT buy the Cambridge series books. The books are very poorly written. The Ecce Romani series is a a much better Latin textbook series, which I highly recommend for anyone studying or planning on studying Latin.

Salve!
I found this series to be especially informative because of the inclusion of the history and culture of the time period (in English).

As for the format of the book, I found it to be an easy read. I liked the fact that there were shorter stories so that I was not overwhelmed with longer passages. Also with the number of stories in each stage, proved for fun group quiz games. (EUGE!) At the end of each story new vocabulary, that is in the story, is included at the end of each story. Then there is a vocabulary checklist, that you should know, at the end of the stage. Sometimes, the other vocabulary at the end of the stories appears in the checklists further along in book. If this becomes a problem, my suggestion would be to make flashcards for each of the stages (proven study aid).

I do think that an improvement to later editions would be to include an English-Latin dictionary of the words used within the book, as well as pronunciation. Yet, nothing that an external English-Latin = Latin-English dictionary could not handle.

Vale

Latin in Pompeii
Caecilius est pater. Caecilus est mortuus.

Cambridge Latin Course: Unit 1 is a well-organized book that will help students learn the language of the Romans. I enjoyed reading the stories about the life of Caecilus, the slave girls, and -- magnis canis. It is the best book to buy to learn latin and fun too. I suggest buying the North American Forth Edition.

Great for those starting out, but nothing new to the pro's
This book tells about acquiring a snake, caring for a snake, and some simple instructions for breeding snakes. The snakes in this book are mostly ratsnakes, garters&ribbons, and pythons. Perfect for those starting out, but no detail for any particular species. Still, it is a great book, especially for those who are inexperienced with the common diseases, mites, etc...

too general, but good for absolute newbies
For someone who knows next to nothing about how to care for snakes, this is an OK book, as it covers most common beginner species. However, if you have an experince, you've heard it all before, and shouldn't spend your money (put it towards a snake instead).

Excellent.
An excellent book with information on most snake species + information on setting up terrariums and different health problems you may encounter.

Not bad....
I acually bought this book for the pictures, theres some real nice ones. The info is basic and great for a person wishing to learn more about them. But for someone like my self who has been keeping ratsnakes for 15 years, its a great picture book.

Cool, interesting, and very informative book.
This book has every bit of information pet owners are looking for. There are great colour photos, and each page has a detailed scetch. If you are studying the history of corn or rat snakes, or you just plain like snakes, this book is right for you

Everything you wanted to know!
This book is excellent for beginning snake hobbyists. It covers corn snake care, breeding and housing. The book also included some excellent pictures of the different kinds of corn snakes. Along with providing helpful hints to keeping your snake healthy, the book provides information on the correct way to obtain your first snake! In my opinion, the best part about this book was the detailed way the authors take the reader step-by-step on constructing an incubator for snake hatching. Everything in the book is well organized to provide easy reference. At the end, a helpful glossary also allows easy reference. I would recommend this book to a snake hobbyist that is interested in keeping and breeding snakes to learn the correct ways to maintain a snake's health and overall happiness.

Very good basic information on garter snake care
A book on the captive care of garter snakes for beginners has been badly needed for quite some time, and this excellent little book fills that need very nicely indeed. While it does not provide the level of information that serious garter snake hobbyists would like, and could be more precise in terms of diet and the unique requirements of some species, that sort of detail would be inappropriate in a beginner's guide like this one. It sets out the basic requirements (feeding, caging, health) that any snake keeper just starting out is going to need to know. I breed garter snakes myself and am very happy that I can now refer my customers, particularly the younger ones, to a book that answers so many of their questions.
