The Bible of European soldiers for a thousand years
Vegetius' compilation of the military wisdom and costoms of the Romans has been the most influential military work written in the western world. Compiled for the Emperor Valentinian II about 390 ad, just before Rome was captured and burned by Alaric, King of the Goths, it was circulated for a thousand years in manuscript form. First printed in English in 1489. This work helped to bring back discipline and cadenced marching. "discipline is superior to strength; but if that discipline is neglected there is no longer any difference between the soldier and the peasant."

A must
Quite coincidentally, I first opened this book on the Princeton campus. This happened about a year ago; I have finished the book three times since. If you like Princeton - read this book. If you like atomic bombs - read this book. If you like mushrooms - read this book. To sum up my review: This book is a must for any self-respecting human.

Outlaws and Gunfighters Classic!
This book and accompanying music cassette are superb! I was intriqued to learn the true history of many famous old west outlaws from this great little book. Phillip W. Steele is informative and entertaining, letting the reader in on some of the juicy, little-known facts of legendaries Jesse James, John Westley Hardin, Billy the Kid, Belle Starr, and the Gunfight at the OK Corral. John D. LeVan's original songs written for this book-music cassette collection further tell the stories of these outlaws. LeVan's music is dynamic, solid-wall-western, with a beat and rhythm so pounding, the only thing to do is try to stay on your horse, hang on to the reins and wait for the ballads! John D. LeVan is surely destined to become huge in the music industry!

An essential to your core library for Neurology practice.
This two volume text is an essential reference and mandatory reading for any Neurology resident or Staff Physician. I had the opportunity to train under the instruction of many of the contributors to this text. I found it to be rich in detail and clinical expertise. I refer to it often in my practice. It is concise and easily understood.

Incredible Imaging
John Gutmann's immigration to the United States was so monumental in that the images he brought forth of normal occurances in this country, were largely ingored by his colleges- thus, his pictures are not the carbon copy variety of say Ansel Adams. This book is fanastic, excellent tonality, and is even greater when viewing the actual exhibit. I recommend Culture Shock to everyone whose ever had an interest in urban/1930 photography. Gripping to say the least.

the greatest poetry ever written
Gerard Manley Hopkins is the greatest English poet to ever put pen to paper, bar none. Yes, even better than Shakespeare. Every student of English lit should read Hopkins. Hopkins writes from a profound love and awe of God and the beauty of His creations, but also from a deep despair resulting from chronic depression. His mastery of classical English combined with his magic use of sounds and word inventions is sheer genius. Read him.

No Other Book Comes Close
This book is the only one you ever need. It has descriptions of the resorts, directions, and surrounding area activities. I keep this book in one of my ski boots so I never hit the road without it. This guy really knows exactly what snow affecianiados want to know.

This is the definitive edition - as in, this is the one that scholars and serious readers want, with a solid introduction, explanatory footnotes, and notes on which passages were changed along the way. Woolman based his Journal on personal diaries, rewriting and editing it with his Quaker audience foremost in mind. His essays apparently were aimed for a wider audience; they show his familiarity with Enlightenment trends that many Friends ignored. The essays "On Keeping Negroes" and "A Plea for the Poor" are included in this edition.
After his death in 1772, the Journal has passed through the hands of a succession of editors, including Quaker poet and abolitionist John Greenleaf Whittier, whose edition can be found on the web. From one generation to the next, Friends and others have rediscovered John Woolman and cherished his sweet reflections on human relations and Divine leading.
