A treasure!
*Celebration of Life* is a beautiful keepsake book. It brought back so many precious memories, first of my daughters when they were infants and then of my grandchildren. I think I'll drop a few hints for a new grandbaby to love -- and so I can give a copy of this book to the new mom! ---- Robin Lee Hatcher, author of THE FORGIVING HOUR and WHISPERS FROM YESTERDAY

A superb discussion of Christian estate planning
This book is excellent. It begins in the right place, that is, by laying out the REASONS for doing estate planning for a Christian family, then discusses the alternatives available for estate planning in easy to understand language (this is probably the BEST book in the field for defining the terms in real English, rather than legalese). Then the book discusses the important part of planning: deciding what you want to do to help your spouse, children, and plan for taxes, with alternatives explained and laid out. Finally, it has a realistic discussion about lawyer's fees and how to work with a lawyer to limit them, and how to call in other advisors to do some of the grunt work

Engaging With God: A Biblical Theology of Worship
Published in Paperback by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co. (1993)

One of the few true Biblical Theologies on the topic
In preparing to develop and teach a theology of worship for our church's Sunday School, I have of late accumulated a large number of works on the topic which provide some rudimentary background and systematic foundation, only to turn and focus primarily on practical methodology. I have also found a fair number of writings with 'an agenda'...several appear to have been intended to rebut a recent argument or conflict.

What has been sorely lacking is a balanced and sound exegetical development of a Biblical theology of worship FROM THE BIBLE, apart from the contemporary rhetoric and 'worship wars' which characterizes so much current thought.

Peterson begins with a thoughtful (though not entirely comprehensive...Carson's seems more thorough to me) definition of worship, and works through detailed examinations of key OT and NT passages of prescriptive and descriptive texts. I found his textual work both defensible and insightful, and his conclusions provocative and resonant with the corpus of the Scriptures.

This book, in conjunction with the recent "Worship By the Book" (edited by D.A. Carson) to be the two most useful materials on worship I have found for my preparations.

Other works which I found more narrowly useful on particular related subtopics include John Frame & Marva Dawn (useful in a David Wells-ish postmodern perspective on worshippers, although a subtle Christian Feminism perspective is noted).

Hopefully, an objective reading of Peterson and Carson will yield similar conclusions in your studies.

Learned everything about Grace from this book!
I have been a Christian my whole life but still failed to grasp the concept of God's Grace. This book helps people realize how much God loves them and is cheering for them and only wants them to succeed. Not only that but He'll forgive us in a second. This book illustrates it's points by using stories of people's lives. I could identify with everyone in the book. Lorraine Peterson's book leaves you with a whole new realization of what the word Grace really means and you no longer look at God as the big judge in the sky! You learn how He'll give you everything you need to do anything, and that we never can do anything on our own strength, so there's no need to try! He'll help us. The best inspirational book I've ever read!

not just for Christians
A good discussion of the virtues of cities and other pedestrian-friendly environments from a Christian perspective. For example, Jacobsen emphasizes the importance of cities (and in particular Jerusalem) in the Bible, as well as more practical considerations such as social equity and the importance of sharing, civility to strangers, and other values best met in a public sphere. Not just for Christians, because Jacobsen uses the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible as well as the New Testament.

Biblical Investing Rules Make Practical Sense
What a breath of fresh air in clear and concise writing in the usual investobable jargon world of investing that loses me everytime. Mr. Peterson extracts a coherent set of the foundations and implementation of good solid everyday investing -- that really work. I liked his ability to take excerpts from the Bible and explain them in bite size 'chapters' of 1-3 pages. The discussions on risk management and how to understand risk really opened my eyes to what questions I should seek for better investing instead of pursuing the goal of returns, returns, returns. All I can say is I really enjoyed it and am using it and would like to see more.

The book that ties things up
The book i think was the best of all three. Really, it helps to know that the authors believe in God and that they can weave him into a book. You could almost make it an adventure book and a religious one too and that is what makes me feel good reading this book. This also ties it up and that way you won't have to wait for them to make the next one which i hate to wait. But this is an excellent book and i would recommend it to anyone.

Understanding Isaiah Clarifies Isaiah
I have used Understanding Isaiah as a reference book now for the past six months and I love how it teaches the wonderful truths of the love that Jesus has for all. I read through the Bible passages and try to understand, but so many times there are refernces to the way of life of the Jews that I am not famliar with and Donald Perry beautifully explains the true meaning often going with a phrase by phrase dissection of each verse. One of the best qualities of Understanding Isaiah is placing the words of Isaiah in the original poetic form. That alone reveals a beauty within the words of the great prophet. Each explanation then uncovers the facets of a glorious gem just waiting to be understood by all who will just look to be more fully persuaded to believe in their Redeemer as another great prophet said.

The Stations made real.
I just came from the Maunday Thrusday Watch where I read A Walk in Jersusalem, Stations of the Cross as I watched in the Garden. The flow and pace took me along the path Jesus walked on the way to Gaulgatha. It made the story of the cursifiction come alive for me in a way it never has before, I was there watching, and following along as Jesus, then Simon carried the cross.

I would be especially good for a Lenten study or to walk your own "way of the cross". I know I will read and re-read this book many times.
