An exciting adventure
A really enjoyed reading this book with my little brother. The characters Zack and Jeff embark on great adventures through time. In this book, Zack and Jeff tumbled into ancient Egypt. My brother loved this book and I enjoyed it with him.

What a fun book!
I read this book out loud to my six year old son. We both loved it. I think that he will soon be able to read these Worlds of Adventure books himself. He is looking forward to it.

Brians Winter
BRIAN'S WINTER
This book was the sequel to Hatchet and Gary wrote both of these books
Paulsen. This paper will tell you about a brief summary of the book along with some other things like how the main character developed along the book and what survival skills he had learned. I think the authors message was to make sure if you were ever in the wilderness that you had the survival skills that bran had learned or it could be that when your on a camping trip to make sure that you don't eat the wrong berries, don't mess with bears and other kinds of things like that.
Now to start out with is a brief summary of this book. First off this kid named Brian was going to see his dad in Canada and was taking a plane over there. So everything started out fine until they were flying over this lake and the guy that was flying him he all of a sudden he had a heart attack and croaked in the middle of the flight and was dead. So Brian took over the plane and crashed into the lake down below. And Brian had all of these things like a hatchet, matches and other important things like that. So he had all these things to do and live on his own until he was rescued. Sorry I cannot tell you the rest of it you will have to go and find out by yourself.
The second thing in how the main character developed in this story. So how he developed in this story is in the beginning he was all soft and didn't know much about the wilderness but since he was in the wilderness he found out a lot of things like how to hunt eat berries that yoyo could an could not eat. Then he built his own cabin and fires so I think now you can say he got stronger from this experience.
Finally I would have to give this book a rating of a 7 out of 10 because I think the ending could have been a little better then it was. But overall I think this book would have to be the best next to Romeo and Juliet. But like I said I gave you a brief summary, the character developed, and a rating.

Brian's Winter
As you know thirteen- year- old Brain Robeson was rescued in the book Hatchet, but what if Brian wasn't rescued. What if Brain had to learn to survive in the freezing cold Canadian winter with only a hatchet? It is extremely crucial that Brian takes everything he has learned and uses it to his best interests.
In the book Hatchet Brain came across many dangerous obstacles and in the process learned how survive in the wilderness but now it's even more vital that Brain learns how to stay alive because now Brain is going to have to live through the treacherous winter and the Canadian wilderness.
Brain's Winter was an outstanding book. I have no complaints, but I do admit Gary Paulsen does leave you hanging. Don't worry though because in the book The River he explains everything. I thought this book was excellent. This book definitely lives up to Hatchet.
I rate Brain's Winter an 8 out of 10 because it is an exceptionally outstanding book as well as Hatchet considering survival books aren't particularly what you would call my favorite type novels. The reason why I give this book a high rating is because Gary Paulsen is an extraordinary writer. Maybe because most of the stuff he writes about. He has experienced himself one way or another though out his life. He is so detailed like he knows exactly what he is talking about. That's what makes this book so interesting. I definitely recommend it.

This is the best book¿read it!
Brian Robeson is a teenage boy and he wants to survive the wilderness. The novel Brian's Winter is written with great, realistic details. It was also written with simplicity, which is why I liked it. I could understand it, completely. Brian is a thirteen-year-old boy who hasn't been rescued, from the novel Hatchet. So he has to face the cold winter months, alone in Northern Canada. This time, Brian has a survival kit, which he found in the plane wreck. The kit includes a rifle, two butane lighters, a fishing line and a sleeping bag. But he still has to find some food, to stay alive...I liked this book because it has a lot of hunting, and suspense in it. When Brian was in the woods alone, he hunted, and I could imagine that I was he. One part I liked in particular was when he found the Cree, and he was warm and stayed full of food.

Brian's Return
Brian's Return is the third and final sequel to Gary Paulsen's 1988 Newbery Honor book Hatchet. In this sequel Brian is an unhappy 15 year old high school student who is having great difficulty adjusting to a normal "civilized" life after being alone in the wilderness. For almost two years he tries to fit in but he just can't seem to connect with his old friends and their seemingly trivial concerns. Through conversations with a counselor Brian realizes that he must return to the wilderness to find himself and his place in the world. This book chronicles his canoe trip back into the wild. Paulsen's desciptions of the scenery and wildlife are so vivid and realistic that readers will feel they are on the trip with Brian. If you have read Hatchet, The River, and Brian's Winter, you MUST read Brian's Return. Although it is a little more reflective than the other action packed books, it is still a fitting conclusion to Brian's saga. I highly recommend Brian's Return.

The third and best sequel to Hatchet
Brian's Return, by Gary Paulsen, is an adventure/survival book about Brian's long-awaited return to the Canadian woods written by Paulsen, a three time Newberry Honor award winner. The story begins with Brian, a 16 year old boy trying to live a normal life. The hard part for him is, he spent 48 days in the Canadian woods after his pilot had a heart attack and it changed his perspective on life. He can't find joy in having his food put right in front of him, or talking about who was going out with whom. After beating up a football player, he sees a counselor named Caleb. Caleb listens to his beautiful descriptions, and tells Brian that the answer was to go back up into the wilderness. He creates a list and a plan for a hundred mile kayak trip to eventually visit the Smallhorns, who rescued him in Brian's Winter. Brian goes through yet another action packed wilderness experience in Brian's Return. This book would be a little hard for young kids to find the true meaning of, so ages 11 and up would be a good reccomended age. Anyone who enjoyed Hatchet and its other sequels will enjoy this book.

Brian's Return
This book was about a boy named Brian who stayed in the wilderness for awhile and went to the city with his mother. He didn't like it in the city. One of the days he was in the city he got into a fight and got put with a counselor to fix his problem. After awhile he went back to the woods because he didn't like it in the city and because he wanted to go back. He thought that he would behave better in the wilderness rather then the city. He took a cab to a cabin of a pilot and then took a plane to a river. From there he took a canoe to find a campsite. Along the way he got into many more adventures. I really liked this book and would recommend this book to anyone who likes adventures. Also to someone who has already read the other books by Gary Paulsen.

(...)P>There is a little boy in this story and he is the main character. One day he was running up and down the halls oh there apartment complex and he saw one of his neighbors (Mr. Henderson) dressed up as Santa Claus. The little boy tells his mom and she says he gets paid to go to stores and talk to little kids. The little boy starts not to believe in Santa Claus.

Then they get a call from There Aunt and Uncle. They want the little boy and his mom to come to their house for Christmas. They say yes because their dad is away in a war in Germany.

This book was really interesting to read because new events kept happening like the little boy would be sad because he doesn't believe in Santa Claus any more then he would be happy because they were going to go to there aunt and uncles house for Christmas. Gary Paulsen is a really good author.

This book will really amaze the reader because they will never get tired of reading a Christmas Sonata. Just when you think it's getting boring it starts to get really interesting.

Christmas sonata
The first thought of the book was not very good but then when it got real good. It wasn't very good because they were getting packed to go see their cousins. Then when they got to the house it got real good. The story is about a kid who got cancer and all he really wants to see before he dies is Santa Claus and his reindeer. The best part is when the boy really gets to see Santa and his reindeer. The ending is good cause he gets to Santa Clause and his reindeer.

The Crossing
Can you imagine what life would be like if you were 13 years old and homeless on the streets of Mexico? Well, if not, read "The Crossing" by Gary Paulsen. "The Crossing" is about a young boy named Manny Bustos who is fighting for survival in Juarez, a Mexican border town and who's only chance is crossing over into the United States. Manny develops a strange friendship with an emotional American soldier who decides to help him cross the border. But, to fully review the book, one must know about the characters in the book, explore Gary Paulson's purpose of the book, and finally share a personal opinion of the book.

The main characters in the book "The Crossing" are Manny Bustos, Robert S. Locke, and Maria. Manny is a young red head Mexican boy who roams the streets of Juarez scavenging for food. Robert is a Sergeant in the American ARMY. His whole life consists of being a good officer during the day and surviving his haunted nightlife by drinking himself to almost "brain dead." Robert is haunted by dead friends, who were killed during a war. Maria is a woman who worked at the Two-by-Four bar and cafe. She would sneak Manny food and also supported Manny when he decided he was going to cross the border.

Gary Paulsen tries to show the truth of what life is like for some Mexican people. He tries to show Mexican poverty and street life, of those who are faced with "the crossing." Paulsen tells us in his book about men who are out to capture young men like Manny. These men will do damage to anybody, just how they did to Robert toward the end of the book. Paulson also shows how life can be rough when trying to trick tourists by having them throw money.

"The Crossing" is a book which I enjoyed reading. I would suggest this book to other teenage readers but would not recommend this book to anyone who is a sophisticated reader. Like the relationship between Robert and Manny, this book is brief and brutal but ends on a note of hope. This book is very short in length and has a simple writing style which should give high-school students with slow reading abilities a special appeal for this book.

"The Crossing" is a spectacular book, which will make a person realize how spectacular their life is. A complete review to the book has been given with information about the characters, Paulson's purpose, and a personal reaction to the book. If you are a high school student wanting to learn about the Mexican culture along the borders, read this book.

Good, easy, fun to read book
I believed the book was pretty good. i liked how it had to do with a kid trying to better himself and escape from poverty as an orphan and start a new life in the USA. It helped give a good view on wat real friendship is suppose to be like. I would recommend this book to people who want a quick book to read and would just like to have it easy.

A good book about struggling and trying to overcome it
"The Crossing" is a great book about a Mexican boy named Manny who will do anything to try and make the crossing from Mexico into the United States so he can get him a job and maybe even buy some stuff for himself. Gary Paulsen seems to tell a realistic story of how a beggar's life is because all through the book, it tells about Manny's ideas of how to get money or food from people and how he thinks he should beg. But Manny is fourteen now and he wants to try and make the crossing to start a life for himself. Manny meets a Sergeant named Robert Locke, who Manny sees as somebody different. Manny must find a way to make the crossing over the border without being caught.

"The Crossing," like most Gary Paulsen books, is a good story. It's about struggling and how to overcome the struggle and survive. It doesn't ever get boring and you'll want to read on the whole time until you finish the book. I recommend anybody to read "The Crossing."

The River
This book, "The River", by Gary Paulsen, is the very interesting sequel to "Hatchet". In "The River", the hero, Brian Robeson, is asked to "do it again"- survive in the forests far away from civilization, so the government can learn how Brian was able to survive. There's only one difference- a psychologist working for the government named Derek is coming with Brian. Although they had planned everything out, an unexpected lightning storm turns their day into a disaster. Derek gets hit by lightning in his sleep, putting him into a coma. Now, Brian must bring Derek to a doctor at the trading post, because their transmitter is dead... ...and Derek might be too if Brian doesn't get Derek there in time...

I've enjoyed this book because of the danger and adventure, and I recommend this book to whoever likes danger and adventure.

The Rivers Rage
The book The River by Gary Paulsen is about a boy named Brian Robensen. He is about 15 years old, and is just getting used to being home after being stranded in the Canadian Wilderness Area. Three men come to his home and ask him to do it again. He decides he will do it to save peoples lives. One man, Derrick, who is with the wilderness survival center, goes with him to the wilderness. The plane leaves and the two only have a radio to call if there is trouble. Trouble comes in the form of lightning, and strands Brian with Derrick in a coma, and the radio is dead. He decides the river is his only hope to civilization...

The book overall was good, but There were one or two things I didn't like, such as Gary Paulsen doesn't explain the camping site very well. He just says that it has a fort, and a fire pit, and the usual camping site stuff. He should have described into detail the fort, and the fire pit, and all the rest of it. Another thing I didn't like was the fact that he introduced the two problems at once. It isn't very realistic that Derrick was holding the radio during his sleep, and the lightning bolt just happened to hit right as the two were sleeping. One thing I did like was the non stop action the whole time after the introduction of the problem. Brian is constantly chasing a raft, or pulling on the raft. I really liked the action of this book.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes wilderness survival, or action books, or who just like to try to figure out how to overcome a problem. You are constantly guessing how he will get out of a problem or if he will get out of problems.

The River
Two years before this story takes place, Brian Robeson survived in the wilderness with only a hatchet. Now the government wants him to do it again. After great persuasion he agrees to go with a man named Derek. Derek will take notes. Brian only goes with a knife. Derek gets hit by a bolt of lightning and falls into a coma. What can Brian do? He could stay, and Derek might die from thirst or he could build a raft and paddle down-river 100 mi. to a trading post and risk his own life. Read this to find out his choice and the adventure that goes with it. I really think you should read this exciting and highly adventurous book.

Very Interesting. You might Enjoy it!
Canyons is a really good book. It's about a fifteen year old boy named Brennan who goes camping up in the canyons, and finds a skull. He ends up taking it home, and he does some research on it. He finds out that it belonged to an Apache Indian boy, about his age, named Coyote Runs. Later Brennan gets in trouble with the cops, over the skull. Although the book didn't really seem that interesting when I started it, towards the end it gets really good. I think you will enjoy it!

This book was subserviant to my book needs.
This book was Da Bomb!. If you want a book with suspense and drama read Canyons. This book was about a boy named Brennan and a skull he found when he was on a camping trip. In the first part it has double life chapters. In other words, it had one chapter with Brennan and one chapter on an apache boy named Coyote Runs.

This book seemed boring at first, In the beginning the author introduce the characters, but after that there doesn't seem to be enough action, but when you get into it the book gets more interesting, for instance, get's to the point were four or five chapters later you get into the book more easily, because it tells about coyote Runs

Reviewed for Mrs. Hassell's 5th grade class at St. John's
Canyons is a great adventure story. The main characters are Brennan, Mr. Homesly and Brennan's mother. In this book Brennan stumbled over a skull with a bullet hole in it. After this, he had trouble sleeping. He had strange dreams, and he heard whispers. He finally realized that he had a quest from an Apache boy who was executed by soldiers for no reason. His quest was to return the skull to the medicine place. Could he do it? Once Brennan had a vision about Coyote Runs, the Apache boy. In his vision Brennan saw soldiers coming after him like they did to Coyote Runs. This reminds me of the time I was playing guns. I was climbing on the rough rocks of Devil's Den at Gettysburg, playing with my brother. I could see myself slipping, fearing that I might fall just like Brennan did when he climbed the cliffs with the rescue team behind him. When Brennan went camping, he was having a lot of fun. Then when he found the skull, he was scared. This reminds me of the time when I went camping in Canyonlands in Utah. It was a lot of fun at first, but then I got worried that the creek next to our tents was going to flood. That night in our sleeping bags, we heard the water come closer and closer. I was so scared I almost jumped out of my shorts! I felt just like Brennan did when he found the skull. When Brennan was doing research with Mr. Homesly, he was trying to find out more facts about Coyote Runs. He wanted to know who this boy was. When I was studying about the Civil War, I did alot of hard work looking into the past and trying to understand what happened. I was staying up late just like Brennan did looking at every detail. Canyons is a great book for kids. It's loaded with action, suspense and alot of adventure. I recommend it to every boy in our class

A good book to track down
"Tracker" is a pretty good book that will leave you wondering at the end of it. John Borne lives with his grandparents and he always looks forward to going hunting for deer with his grandfather every year. But something bad happened this year. His grandfather finds out that he is dying of cancer and he only has a few months to live, so he tells John that he won't be going hunting with him this year. John will have to hunt by himself. John ventures to find a deer by himself, but at the same time he has to try to concentrate and not to think too much about what's supposed to happen to his grandfather.

"Tracker" is a good book. It's not one of Gary Paulsen's best, but it is good. It will keep you wanting to read on to see what happens and how John will deal with the situation. The end of the book might confuse you a little bit and leave you asking some questions, but it's not too bad. I recommend anybody to track down "Tracker" and read it.

The Chase
A Review by Greg

There is a boy named John. He lost his parents when he was very young. He now lives with his grandparents. His grandfather was diagnosed with cancer and can't do much now. John now takes care of the farm. He and his grandfather go deer hunting every year together. Unfortunately not this year. He must go alone. He sets out very early in the morning to go get his deer. He follows a doe day after day after day. He never gets a chance to kill her but he gets a chance to touch her. He was unarmed too. He sets for home and his grandparents expecting his arrival.

Three things that I liked about this book is that its about hunting witch really attaches me to that book so really enjoyed reading it. I also liked how John took responsibility and helped out with the farm. I really liked how John looked at life all the way through this book. He looked at it in the best possible way. I really got bored of John always walking up to the deer getting close and the deer ran off. The vocabulary in this book was very childish, wasn't exactly up to my reading level. The characters became so lifelike to me after they described them to me with such detail. This book had a lot of relevance to me because I'm a hunter witch made it very interesting. This book was very easy to read and I was up to a little bit more of a challenge.

I really recommend someone to read this book. Someone in middle school because it's kind of hard. I especially recommend this to someone who really likes adventure book because it's full of that.

Tracker Was Great!
Tracker was great! John Borne is 13 years old and just found out that his grandfather has cancer. It's hunting season and John has to go hunting alone, this year. When he sees a doe, he doesn't want to kill it. He believes that if he touches the deer that his grandfather's cancer will go away. I liked this book a lot. I liked how John Borne never gave up trying to touch the deer, because he really thought that if he touched the deer, his grandfather would live. I would have liked it better, if he killed the deer, because I like action.

Not a bad Book
The book the car is about a young teenage boy whose parents are always fighting. One night it gets really bad. The next morning Terry wakes up to a quiet house, a few days go by and Terry doesn't see, or hear from his parents at all. After about three days Terry gets a phone call from his father saying that he is leaving and not coming home, than later that day his mother calls with the same message. Terry is abandon by his parents and decides to assemble a "kit car" that his father had in his garage. When the car is finished, he calls it the "Cat" and begins his journey from Cleveland to Portland. He is going to Portland to see an uncle that he has met only once in his life, he is the only family that Terry knows of. During Terry's trip he meets up with a Vietnam War Veteran named Waylon and he guides him his way to his uncle. This book is a lot about what Terry learns on his journey.

I thought that this was a very good book but I did mark it down a few stars because I personally did not like the narration of the book. I sometimes found myself asking which character was which and who did what. Yet the book although somewhat difficult to follow was an excellent book!

A Wonderful Car
A fourteen year old boy named Terry is on a quest. He needs to get from Ohio to Portland, Oregon with two old Vietnam Veterans. Terry ends up with no parents as a result of them not liking each other. He was left all alone. When he found out he was alone he started building a kit car that was given to his father. He plans to drive to an uncle in Portland who he barely knows. Along his way he picks up Wayne and Walon. Both were in the Vietnam War. They wanted to show Terry America, it's wonders, and its people. I think most people would enjoy THE CAR if they would sit down and read. I highly recommend this book to people who especially like Gary Paulsen or who are interested in cars. I hope you will want to read this book after reading my review.

One of Gary Paulsen's Greatests
Fourteen Year-Old Terry Anders had just gotten off the phone with his mom and dad, both saying that they were tired of fighting with each other, and that they were going to leave Terry in the hands of the other parent. Terry was home alone. He liked not hearing tham fight. Later that day, he started putting together a 1974 Blakely Bearcat, which was a kit car. Terry then decided that he was going to drive the car. One problem, he didn't have a license to drive the car. So he starts on his journey and meets two interesting characters, Wayne and Waylon. They teach him to "LEARN". Gary Paulsen uses very well written descriptions that put you right there with what is happening. One example would be when Terry got the phone call, you could imagine what he was thinking. He has a very good word choice, and makes you think about what you just read. Like when Wayne and Waylon tell Terry to "LEARN" in life. The book left me with one question, am I learning all I can in life? This is a great book of adventure and endless possibilities.
