It Was Okay
I liked the book because it was funny. They also did a play of the Wizard Of Oz. This boy named Jacob secretly likes this girl named Maria Tresser. One of the funny parts is when Jacob is running and he trips and falls on Maria Tresser. It was funny because he trips on his shoelace on the pritiest girl in school.
one of the bad things is when you know that the girl in the story is going to say yes to go on a date. It is always boring when they live happily ever after. Why fdoesn't the story ever end in a sad ending or something. If I were you I would rent it first before I buy it because, it is only about 85 pages and 14 chapters long. Your kids might like it.

I loved this book
It's been a while since I read this, but I can remember reading it, and then rereading it, and then reading it again. This book is a one-afternoon book. You sit down and start reading, and then you finish the book without getting up. The main charachter is a reclusive boy who avoids other people, which is hard because he goes to school. You hear a lot about his popular model-in-training sister, and the lady who poured warm oil...
Pretty funny and an engaging read. Kind of corny in spots though.
Trevor

The Boy Who Ruled the School
The book is funny. It's about a shy boy the never likes to talk to anyone or be noticed. He's flunking english and has to work on the set of The Wizard of Oz to get extra credit.Every morning he times it just right to enter school un- noticed. At the end of this book, he puts to much fog into fog machine and fills the whole auditorium with fog, and gets a date with a girl.

Taking your dogsled on a moonlit night run
Author Gary Paulsen ran the Iditarod dogsled race across Alaska twice, so when he says "Nothing in running dogs is quite so beautiful as a night run," he knows of what he speaks. We have a dog sled race up in this neck of the woods each year, and I have watched sleds racing along a wooded path by moonlight. That experience is captured in "Dogteam," as Paulsen tells of the experience in a prose poem that tries to communicate to the rest of us what it is like to run your dogs through the snow to get home on a cold night with a full moon. The illustrations, by Ruth Wright Paulsen, are done in ink and watercolor. She manages a seventy-dog kennel and helps train Iditarod dogs with her husband, Gary, so you have to look at these drawings and wonder which of their charges have ended up in this book. This is a book that those who love Huskies and the sight of them mushing through the snow, will enjoy.

Stunning
Beautiful illustrations and vivid, descriptive sentences! I purchased this book to teach my first graders about descriptive writing. They were in awe of the book! Living in the south, most of them have never even seen snow or even heard of dog sledding. After having been dog sledding myself I knew I had to find a way to share the experience and this book was it! It is truly one of my favorites!

An excellent picture book
DOGTEAM is a beautifully illustrated, as well as beautifully, simply, dramatically written book. It is not exactly a children's picture book, but more for lovers of dogs of all ages. Gary Paulsen is the author and retired dogsledder, who is most remembered for his young adult books such as HATCHET and DOGSONG. Ruth Wright Paulsen is his wife and the spectacular watercolor illustrator of the book. The picture book seems to be based on Paulsen's midnight adventures with his beloved dogteam, and readers will feel as if they are running alongside the dogteam, the sled whispering behind them. A great book.

Gary Paulsen: Adventure is His Life
The brightly colored photo of Gary Paulsen on this book's cover makes it an attention grabber for students in middle or high school; the text includes a generous scattering of black-and-white pictures and maps. Mr. Paulsen dedicated HATCHET, one of his three Newbery Honor Books, to the students of Hershey Middle School in Hershey, Pennsylvania, because of their enthusiastic response to his participation in the Alaskan Iditarod sled dog race, and Chapter Eight explains how this came to happen. Ms. Fine crams the book with factual information that helps readers understand how Paulsen uses his own life experiences like the race when he writes his books about survival, skillfully weaving their titles into the biography. Graphic detail, such as the stitching back of his tongue after a childhood accident in the Philippines, is minimal, just enough to tweak interest. Footnotes in a special section both satisfy curiosity and demonstrate Ms. Fine's care to clearly cite authorities, a good model for young report writers. The three-page index also helps teens, who will find many references to his book titles here.

An adequate biography on Paulsen that is age appropriate is hard to find. This one fills the bill.

Great Gary Paulsen Biography!
This biography of Gary Paulsen belongs on the shelf of every library serving students who know and love Gary Paulsen's work. Teachers who study Gary Paulsen's work, including such favorites as HATCHET, will want a copy (or more) for their students. Edith Hope Fine balances Paulsen's background and tough life with his hard work and his work ethic. Black and white photographs are helpful to the text. Schools organizing author visits will enjoy the segment on Gary's school visit. This is a well-written, solid biography, and an enjoyable read. Public and school libraries will find this a helpful addition to their collections. If you are a fan of Paulsen's work you will enjoy reading this fine biography and learning more about him.

Gary Paulsen: Author and Wilderness Adventurer
My 12 year old son and I have just finished reading Edith Fine's wonderful new biography on Gary Paulsen. Since Paulsen is one of our favorite authors we were thrilled to learn more about the details of his life. Being a volunteer reading teacher in the public schools and a leader of a weekend reading group of 6 adolescent boys, I know that Gary Paulsen's books are extremely popular with kids that age, and yet there has never been much written about his life. (Hopefully, libraries will order several copies each of this book.) Edith Fine does an exceptional job of writing in a way that's easily understood by both kids and adults. She takes the time to explain details such as what a "pinsetter" does. Most kids don't realize that bowling alleys haven't always been mechanized and that a real person had to actually set up the bowling pins each time a ball knocked them down. My son shares Gary Paulsen's love of dogs and Ms. Fine incorporates each family dog into the events of his life. Although Gary Paulsen's childhood and part of his adult life involve such painful subjects as alcoholism, Edith fine describes them in a matter of fact way- not skirting the issue, but also not laying out too many gory details. (important for kids) Gary Paulsen's life is a fascinating read and one that many people, kids and adults alike, can profit from- especially ones that aren't astute in reading and writing. He shows us that anyone can learn to better themselves- even if the cards seem stacked against them. This book is a must have for any Gary Paulsen fan. Kudos to Edith Fine!

The Treasure of El Patron
I always enjoy a Gary Paulsen book when I sit down with it. I can count on this author for an exciting tale told in a lively fashion, and characters I can really believe in. Tag and Cowboy (the heroes of this story) believe in treasures and in themselves.

I liked the way that Tag's dad found the treasure and left clues for Tag to find it as well. If you like fun, fast-paced adventure, this is a book you'll like a lot.

A Super Book!
Enjoyed Tag's adventure in finding the treasure...kept me on the edge of my seat!

A Great Book!!!
I think this book is great because it was adventurous, interesting and fun to read!

Hatchet
Hatchet is a riveting book. It combines drama, comedy, and suspence all in one action pacted book. It's about a boy who ends up alone in a Canadian forest after a plane crash, and all the adventures he has. He has to learn a lot about surviving in the wilderness, including how to find food, shelter, and how to live with wild animals. He learns a lot about himself and how much heart it takes to be without everything you would normally live with. I enjoyed this book very much. Sometimes i found myself falling asleep with the book over my face because I did not want to go to sleep so i wouldn't miss an exciting event that was just around the corner. I'm going to keep reading Gary Paulsen. He is an excelent writer.

Excellent!
Though I read this book quite a while ago, I still remember how interesting and riviting it was. The story is intense, and draws the reader into the thoughts and emotions of Brian- the main (and practically ONLY) character that is shown. Definately a must-have!

Hatchet - A Cry in the Wild
Hatchet - an realistic survival story that is eminently well written. Gary Paulsen has comboned his own knowledge of survival and woodcraft with the easily beliavable character of Brian Robeson; the result is an award-winning novel that will not be put down until it is finished.

The Tent
In this book, a father is looking for a better life for his son, Steven. Cory, the father, is making minuim wage and cannot keep a job for extended periods of time. One day, Cory decides he if tired of living this way and begins to think of ways to make money. Finally, he remembers a friend he once had. Many years ago Corey's friend began teaching the gospel. However, he did it only for the money collected in the offering. Corey decides this is the way to become rich, so Corey buys a tent and sets off with Steven to preach the Lord's word. They go to many cities throughout Texas preaching and even at times faking miracles, until Corey one night when Corey decides to finally read the bible. He picks it up and begins to read, and to Steven's surprise by the next day he is a true believer. He admits his sins to his next congregation and decides to travel preaching the word for no money at all. This is a compelling story about a lost soul that found the Lord just in time. The stories only set back is the fact that it is short and by the time you get intrested it is almost over. Thats why I gave it four stars instead of five.

The Tent Review
I really enjoyed this book. I like how the father and son family found religion in their time of need. They started out preaching only for money, but ended up preaching for the sole purpose of spreading the word of God to those less fortunate. This moral has made me think about how I live my life, and I will always keep this story in mind as I go about my day.

One of his best!
Being a Gary Paulsen fan, I may be a little biast, but this certainly is my favorite book. This fantastic story caught my attention just by looking at it. As usual, I found it in my favorite section. It paints a picture of a single father struggling to make ends meet with his son, Corey. Stealing a hotel bible, Corey's father studies it and performs fake healings with cheap sermons. Tricking people out of their money, Corey and his father are in the midst of deciding if this is true. All this is beautifully written on the back cover, but, hey, this is a review. I recommend this book to almost anyone able to read, for it is extremely short and easy to follow. I guarentee you that you will not be dissappointed, lest you object to the Christian religion. If you have already read this book, I suggest you try the Hatchet series or one of Paulsen's other books, The Crossing.

An exciting adventure
A really enjoyed reading this book with my little brother. The characters Zack and Jeff embark on great adventures through time. In this book, Zack and Jeff tumbled into ancient Egypt. My brother loved this book and I enjoyed it with him.

What a fun book!
I read this book out loud to my six year old son. We both loved it. I think that he will soon be able to read these Worlds of Adventure books himself. He is looking forward to it.

Beautiful Illustrations
Working together, getting along and working...working, these are some of the things Gary Paulsen describes in his book Clabbered Dirt, Sweet Grass. It's a non-fiction book about the four seasons on a farm. The farmer's main conflicts are working on the land and dealing with hard times. For example, the frost might ruin the crop or kill the wheat they were growing, and they wouldn't have any of the wheat. My opinion about this book was -- it's boring. The plot was slow, confusing and the story had no characters. When I picked up this book, I thought it would have a character, but I was disappointed when it didn't. But there were some good things about the book. There were great illustrations, and good descriptions. For example, Gary Paulsen described how winter "would die, would die, would die and be over with." If you are interested in farms and great illustrations, you'll like this book.

Practical environmentalism...
Mr. Paulson writes a beautiful, touching, book that reflects his undying love of nature and the land. Take the time to read the forward to the book that explains the motive behind it's writing. Picture the two men sitting next to the deceased workhorse as the farmer unravels his story of his life and his land. Contrast the respect for the land and nature's cycles of "old time" farmers, versus the "forced yields" of today's factory farms. I have read this book several times and each time I gain a greater knowledge and respect for the wonders Mother Earth reveals, if you treat her with respect and take the time to listen. I have recomended this book to dozens of people - city and country folk alike - and all have been glad that I did so. Every person who has felt a link or calling to the earth should read this book.

This *Is* the Way It Was.
I grew up on a small family farm in rural Michigan, the type of farm that was vanishing even as I grew up on it. Since I grew up in the 1950's, many of the episodes and scenarios depicted in Gary Paulsen's Clabbered Dirt, Sweet Grass pre-date my youth, but enough do not that I can assure you that Paulsen has captured the sights, the sounds, the tastes, the smells and even the textures of the events he pictures in words. New calves, for example do not know how to drink from a bucket and must be taught, because the purpose of having a dairy cow is the sale of her milk, and if the calf is allowed to suck, it will as Paulsen says "ruin the cow for milking," while the calf cannot possibly consume all of the milk the cow produces. "So when the cows were milked a small amount was poured into a bucket and the children had to teach them how to drink. They would suck on anything, the ends of our coats, mittens, ears, and we would stick our fingers in their mouths and start them sucking and lower our hands into the warm milk in the bucket so they would suck the milk up through our fingers. It took them only a short time to learn to suck the milk directly, slamming their heads into the buckets as they would slam them into the cow to make the milk flow so that milk splashed up and out and into our faces, down our clothes, hot new milk, spring milk." Or as he says of milking, "the hands work in a rhythm as old as all rhythms, the rhythm that is the giving of milk, so that the person becomes the calf and the cow the mother and the milk hisses and sputters into the white foam." For those who have never known farm life, Gary Paulsen's poetic prose will provide a vivid and accurate picture of life as it used to be on the family farm. For those who, like my 80-year-old father, knew the family farm of the 1920's-1950's, this book will evoke rich memories. For those of us who knew farm life afterward, the memories will be selective. But they're there. They're there.

Tuckeys Home
I thought Tuckets Home. The book Tuckets home was different because it was like an adventure because you are going through a desert and not knowig what wii happen next. And not knowing if any body will get hurt or die.

I think the author did a good job at the end of the book. I think the best part was at the end because you are going through the last desert and nobody has got hurt or injuryed so far. And I was surprised nobody got hurt cause someone was after Francis.

The characters in the book really looked out for each other and helped each other. When they thought they could not go any more. Also the setting was different. Because it was in the desert and it was still adventure.

Fantastic! You should read all five!
Gary Paulsen has done an absoulutly fantastic job on writing the Tucket Adventures. They sure are page turners. There is a lot of suspense. It is based on a boy and his adopted family. (two children he finds in a wagon) They try to find his family in Oregon after being captured by Indians. They have many Adventures together and the story is very exciting. Do yourself a favor! Read all five!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome a real page turner
Tucket's home is about a boy who is trying to get back to his family. Along the way he finds two orphen children that helps him along the way (cooking and hunting). He finds his family. A real thriller.

Another great book!!
I am a big fan of Gary Paulsen. Some of his books like Dogsong, Hatchet,(WHICH I THINK EVERONE HAS READ) Woodsong, and Christmas Sonata. The pictuers in the book are different. He writes about living in the Philippines. One thing that he talked abouut is that there was a war going on and he callled it "war time". He lived in the Philippines because his dad was in the war over there. I was very glad that I read this book and I hope you will read it too.

This is a great book
Biography...most people don't like to read these kinds of books. But, this is a very exciting biography that can't be put down.

Couldn't put it down!
Gary Paulsen is truly a rare talent. Your right there where ever he is, smelling the sea, the jungle, he draws you in and keeps you right along side him!
