Makes me want to visit the Dunes!
"Great Sand Dunes National Monument," by David Petersen, is part of the "A True Book" series. This volume is all about the Colorado attraction of the title. The book includes a map, a brief glossary, an index, a short list of books, and the online addresses of two Web sites.

The book combines an easy-to-read text with many full-color photos. Petersen describes how the Dunes were created: "Sand, water, wind, and time: These are the dune makers." Also discussed is the plant and animal life on and near the Dunes. Overall, a fascinating, educational book that makes me want to visit this national monument.

I found this book to be very thorough and detailed in its approach to a variety of landscape construction issues. It has detailed pictures and diagrams that illustrate the processes and make it easier to understand. The information is up to date, easy to read and a great learning tool for the student, professional or hobby person. As a landscape student, I find it a great resource book.

Awesome wilderness area, great book!!
The little traveled, little known wilderness area in far northern California comes to life in this well-written and organized guide book. It includes an extensive natural history section to make your hikes more enjoyable and informative. It also includes the most accurate, detailed map of the wilderness (throw out those outdated, dangerously inaccurate Forest Service maps)! This guide book is well worth the money if you're looking for an escape from the crowds in the better known wilderness areas.

Honest writing, something we all need to know.
I've read several books about dating and sexual purity. This book really helped me to realize the importance of purity in your Christian life. It also helps those who have experienced sexual trauma and need healing. I recommend this book to people of all ages. It's scriptually based and refreshing.

The Print and the Darkness
He was bound determined not to paint people reading and women knitting, but instead to show people who breathed emotions into his darkly suggestive prints. "Death in the sickroom" showed family members at the ages when they were painted, not when his sister Sophie died; it expressed unity in grief as one of death's longlasting effects by seemingly overlapping planes flowing together across bleakly empty areas, starkly B&W contrasts, and stiffly posed mourners frozen in misery. "The mirror" heads of a disembodied man and woman was his first woodcut to give up the Japanese method of printing each color with a separate woodblock; instead, he jigsawed blocks into pieces according to compositional design, linked each piece with a different color, and put everything back together into a multicolored print. He considered his "Sick child II" his most important print: his first color lithograph, it focused on the diseased upper chest and the head in profile facing right against a large pillow in order to gaze with tragically meditative resignation into the flatly patterned looming void on the far right. However, his "Scream" became the most compelling image for the late twentieth century: it expressed terror before the universe by powerfully decorative lines reverberating through the starkly opposed black lines and bleakly white voids of pulsing land and sky. Elizabeth Prelinger and Michael Parke-Taylor have applied reader-friendly illustrations and text to their catalog of the Vivian and David Campbell exhibition. Their SYMBOLIST PRINTS OF EDVARD MUNCH goes down good with PROGRESSIVE PRINTMAKERS by Warrington Colescott and Arthur Hove, PRINTS AND PRINTMAKING by Antony Griffiths, EDVARD MUNCH by Josef Paul Hodin, and THE PRINT IN THE WESTERN WORLD by Linda C Hults.

Just like being there!
This book is not only concise but also very descriptive. The trails are described very well, as well as driving directions on how to get to them, and you are told what you can expect to see on each trail. It's very portable in case you'd like to tuck it into a backpack, too! Good job!

All You Need
This is such a great book. I originally got it for a Park Resource Management class while pursuing my Master's degree. This is definitely one of those books that you hang on to after you finish the class.

Wildland Recreation has so many different resources. There are pictures, charts, graphs, diagrams, and my favorite- case studies and examples of research. It is a great reference to use when writing papers or doing other research, because you can go look up the study. Not only that, but at the end of each chapter, all the references are provided, making it easy to search for what you need outside of this book.

Wildland Recreation is well written and understandable. The information is clear and straightforward, easy to comprehend. The chapters and sections are nicely divided into categories. This is a great book for anyone interested in any aspect of wildland management.

Issues at Disney
If you thought that Disneyland was the best place to work, think again. Disney is not immune to problems, and this book tells all about them. Koenig takes an un-edited, behind the scenes look at Disney. Read about how Disneyland has changed since Disney's death. Or what really goes on with those people who wear the larger then life Mickey and Minnie Mouse suits. What you don't know won't hurt you. So if you want to go to Disneyland thinking that it IS the 'Happiest Place on Earth,' then you may not want to read this book.

Mostly ejoyable and amusing. Finished it in a day.
I bought this book with some reservations since I saw both positive and negative reviews from former "alleged" cast-members. Thankfully, I discovered that Mr.Koenig DID document his sources so one can make a judgement as to what is likely truth and what is possibly fiction. Apparently, he did pull a good amount of his information from microfiches of local newspapers in addition to cast and ex-cast interviews.

In a nutshell, the book shows that Disneyland, despite its magical mystique, is still a very human place with gemstones and lumps of coal. The one chapter that lost my interest was "Lawsuit Land" which, after going through several other stories of how guests can be so careless or thoughtless, began to be redundant.

Overall, the book was an enjoyable and easy read. It's a collection of interesting notes and stories of the park, its founder, its cast and its guests; not an intellectual dissertation of Disney's impact on culture. There's a laugh here and there; some awe at peoples' kindness or stupidity; and interesting snippets of the park's growing pains. It certainly left me with a better appreciation of what troubles the cast-members have to go through, and an understanding of how to be a more gracious guest on my next trip to the kingdom.

BEWARE: This book may be a mouse killer!
Are you obsessed with the mouse? Do you love Disneyland? Or are you just curious what makes Disney tick?

Personally, I fit in with the last two questions. I have visited Disneyland numerous times and everytime I've always asked myself and (to their annoyance) my family how did the Disney company make such a place. This same question is often asked by an audience member watching a magic show -- how did s/he created the illusion? Well, this book reads like a truthful tabloid. Sounds like a contradiction? It's not.

While I was reading this book I felt like I had picked up the latest issue of a weekly tabloid that proudly read on the front cover "Ex-employee of Disney tells all!" But this story is truth, unlike the majority of the tabloids, I'm sure. If you wanted to know how Disneyland works, read this book. I was laughing and enjoying the reading from cover to cover. Being an ex-amusement park employee myself (Legoland, CA. for over a year) I could related to a lot of the stories that were told by Disneland employees (or I should say cast members). This book will give you a new perspective about the mouse and his land. I think it's a very good read!

great for south park fans, gets boring though.
First of all id like to say the book is NOT 96 pages long. It has 10 real south park episode scenes. It comes with 4 sheets of south park window stickers. The stickers offer a wide variety of south park characters but may be missing some of your favorite obscure characters. Its fun when you first get it to put the stickers in different spots on the scenes but it gets boring after awhile. They make good stickers to put up on your car window, or home windows for fun when your done with the book. Its a great book for a die hard south park fan to have. If you've seen practically all the south park episodes i recommend it to you, if you've only seen a few or half of them and don't know much about the show you won't understand the book as well, and its not worth the money for you.

Sticky Fun!!
If you like/love South Park then this is a book that you will have to put on you wish list or get. You can make Kenny die anyway you want. You can even make Stan and Wendy kiss! There are ten diffrent backgrounds that you can put them in. Even on each background there are little clips taken from that episode of South Park. This is a awesome book that the whole family will love....maybe.

Great fun for all South Park fans!
I bought this about a year ago , and when I first opend it, I new it would be ohers of fun. I spent 3 ohers on it. Thers 130 pesses of your favorite South Park charecters, or most of them. About a year later I lost most of the pesses. But I still have alote of fun with it. You can make you very own South Park episodes. They dont have as much cursing in it as the show. They only have 5 curse words. You can choose from 10 different South park backgrounds from the show. Like the classroom, the cafeteria, and Starks pond. You can make Kenny die over and over. For some people it can get boring, but for big South Park fans like me, even without most of the pesses its still fun! Well, Irecommend it for South Park fans. It can be hard to understand for some people who arnt farmiliar with alot of the South Park charecters. Well I got to go play with it right now!
