I would recommend this book to not only patients but also their families.

Most mathematical equations are given in blocks of C-code, so that the reader first has to figure out what the relevant mathematical equation might be. This book demands only some basic understanding of C, and as the author righly says (p.124): "Although the philosophy in this book is to present code that is as clear and simple as possible, rather than presenting the niftiest algorithms and most highly optimized coding technique, it should be pointed out that there are faster ways to scan through all of the pixels of an image".

Too much effort was put into this book and it was all futile.
Not enough "real hard evidence" supports anything reported in this "tabloid" type of book.
I felt like I was reading the National Enquirer (hardback version) than a book about Elvis and his manager.
This man obviously used a lot of other people's material, from other books, and added his opinion: which doesn't amount to much.
I like Scotty Moore and what he did for Elvis, but he was always kept in the dark about Elvis' business. So his comment about how much this book was an eye-opener is expected.
This was a waste of my money, but even moreso my time.
I would rather read something more substantial.
"James Dickerson's research has confirmed more than I ever suspected"--Scotty Moore, Elvis's guitarist and first manager
"An indendiary, powerful investigative account . . . an explanation, finally, of the twisted, corrupt relationship between Elvis and Colonel Parker"--Joe Eszterhas, best-selling author, screenwriter and former writer for Rolling Stone magazine
"This jaw-dropping biography of Tom Parker confirms what I felt for years--that the Colonel was a far more fascinating rascal than Elvis ever became. This is a model of research assembled with crafty objectivity and humor"--Hal Kanter, director of the Elvis film "Loving You"
"Here is the whole sad and amazing story of 'the most accomplished con man since Barnum.' In swift, deft strokes Dickerson has sketched the greed, compulsion, and lies that drove every decision in the making of undoing of rock and roll's greatest talent. This is the book our study of popular culture's most glittering icon has lacked"--Lewis Nordan, author of "The Sharpshooter Blues"
"This riveting biography shines a hard light on the inscrutable Colonel . . . Dickerson has made it easy to understand that if rock and roll will never die, it owes its life to how Parker wrote the rules of the game"--Mark Ribowsky, author of "He's a Rebel"

On a positive note the Sourcebook does give good information on how to use the internet as a means of searching for information on rare diseases such as MAS. I was glad to see there were references to the MAGIC Foundation and the Paget's Foundation web sites, both excellent sources of information.
Searching the internet for "fibrous dyspalsia" and "McCune Albright Syndrome" will bring much more substantive information.
This source book spends far more time instructing the reader on a patient's legal rights with their health insurance company than it does on any discussion of the best methods available to diagnose aortic aneurysms. If a Marfan patient wants to know the differences between the various medical tests used to determine if aortic replacement surgery is necessary, they won't find it here. If they want to know which medical tests allow the doctor to view the entire aorta, not just the aortic root, they will have to find it in another book because it isn't covered here. There is absolutely no explanation of the benefits of an MRI versus a CT Scan or echocardiogram, nor are the actual symptoms experienced by patients when their aorta is about to burst and kill them ever discussed.
The book is written by a Medical Doctor who apparently expects Marfan patients to find a doctor and then place their total trust in that person, unencumbered by any knowledge to allow them to be sure they are receiving appropriate medical care. A patient suffering from any disease is much better equipped to battle it if they have as much knowledge as they can possibly obtain, which is why I purchased this book. I'm afraid I wasted my money, because this book provides very little substantive information about the diagnosis and treatment of aortic aneurysms in patients with Marfan Syndrome.
I found little in the way of new web sites that I had not already reached by using well known web browsers/libary resources. Just one word of warning the book does direct you to genuine web sites, if you are searching on your own you get a lot of rubbish in with the real sites.
All the best with the research......
I have found this extremely useful.

First and foremost, Ambrose does not appear to be a very good writer. The text is written in the first-person, which I find awkward and unprofessional for such a topic. There are numerous typograpical errors. The first six chapters of the book are largely qualitative and superficial discussions on concrete uses, production and so forth. Earnest problem solving doesn't start until Chapter 7.
Parker's 3rd Edition of Structural Steel design has been a trusted companion of mine for many years. The information is concise and the presentation robust without a lot of nonsense. I was hoping to get that same treatment out of Ambrose with this edition of concrete design. Ninety dollars later, I discovered that I have not.
