Great guide
I have found this to be a great guide while searching for more info on my disease. I would recommend this strongly to especially those, who are new to the disease.
The Book's Audience
Designed for people who are new to interstitial cystitis, this sourcebook has been created for patients who have decided to make education and Internet-based research an integral part of the treatment process. Although it gives information useful to doctors, caregivers and other health professionals, it is designed for patients who are less familiar or are new to the Internet as a medical research tool. It tells the reader where and how to look for information covering virtually all topics related to interstitial cystitis, from the essentials to the most advanced areas of research. The title of this book includes the word official. This reflects the fact that the sourcebook draws from public, academic, government, and peer-reviewed research. Selected readings from various agencies are compiled and reproduced to give you some of the latest official information available to date on interstitial cystitis. Following an introductory chapter, the sourcebook is organized into three parts. PART I: THE ESSENTIALS; Chapter 1. The Essentials on Interstitial Cystitis: Guidelines; Chapter 2. Seeking Guidance; Chapter 3. Clinical Trials and Interstitial Cystitis; PART II: ADDITIONAL RESOURCES AND ADVANCED MATERIAL; Chapter 4. Studies on Interstitial Cystitis; Chapter 5. Patents on Interstitial Cystitis; Chapter 6. Books on Interstitial Cystitis; Chapter 7. Multimedia on Interstitial Cystitis; Chapter 8. Periodicals and News on Interstitial Cystitis; Chapter 9. Physician Guidelines and Databases; Chapter 10. Dissertations on Interstitial Cystitis; PART III. APPENDICES; Appendix A. Researching Your Medications; Appendix B. Researching Alternative Medicine; Appendix C. Researching Nutrition; Appendix D. Finding Medical Libraries; Appendix E. Your Rights and Insurance; ONLINE GLOSSARIES; INTERSTITIAL CYSTITIS GLOSSARY; INDEX. The 2002 Official Patient's Sourcebook on Lyme Disease
Published in Paperback by ICON Health Publications (2002)
Amazon base price: $24.95
Average review score:
Does not reflect real life patient experiences.
This book does have lots of sources of information about Lyme Disease, but little practical information for the patient about the disease. It gives lots of medical and governmental citations. It also gives lots of "vocabulary builders" that are helpful when trying to read technical medical research articles. The book, however, is very generic. It seems there are many books like this one for other illnesses. It has no feel for the patient's experience, it does not even hint at the very real controversies that surround this illness.
The back cover of the book says it best: it is not written from a layperson's/ patients point of view nor is it written from a clinical/ provider prospective, it is a "soucebook" of "official" and "peer-reviewed" medical literature. I would add the word "selective" to the previous statement. Also, place heavy emphasis on the word "Sourcebook", it tells you about where to go for information. Don't expect to get something this book is not. It is "A Reference Manual for Self-Directed Patient Research".
very handy guide
Definitely a different book. I have just recently been diagnosed with lime disease and I found this book extremely helpful with learning about my disease.
Found it useful
Since this is a compiliation of official sources, I found it a big save of time and quite terse. I think its a good book for someone who is new to the disease, or those who do not want to print hundreds of internet pages.
The 2002 Official Patient's Sourcebook on Scoliosis

A Good Resource
This book isn't for the run-of-the-mill scoliosis patient. There is a good scoliosis overview, but mostly it's information for people who want to do their own research. If books like The Scoliosis Sourcebook and Stopping Scoliosis aren't as technical as you like, and you want to read the original source material that makes up most of what the medical community knows about scoliosis, this book could be for you. There are hundreds of URLs, which could be an element that quickly makes the material obsolete.
Research help and guide
This book is a research guide. It points you to a lot of good information. I would stongly recommend this book if you are new to Scoliosis.

This book made publication?
By reading Jim Parker's already posted reviews I can only assume that these people are close personal friends of his and do not want to hurt his precious ego. But, come on already. What was this garbage I read titled "Average Single Male"? I can see why this man is single. And how does he have the right to group all average single males into this farce of a book? I am ashamed for him. I am a single male and what I read does not come close to how I would treat or act around a woman. The problem with this clown is he thinks he knows what women want or need when in reality he has no clue and probably never will. Stay away from writing, it is not your calling.
Full of Smiles
Jim Parker brings truth and understanding to the average single male's mind. As an average single female, I found this book helpful and provided insites that made me think. I especially liked the chapter on 'The ASM and Eye Candy". I never laughed so hard. It's about time someone 'tells it like it is'.
A woman's view
I always wondered what was going on in the ASM's mind. Jim Parker has brought this to light, even if it his own views. A great read.

Waste of money
The subject line says it all... this book is a waste of money. I have found more information on the web then this "official" book has, more accurate too. It boils down to the usual, no one knows anything of substance about AVN/ON. We're in pain, how about some real research or info for once.
Nice Help
This book is wonderful for Avascular Necrosis patients. I haven't been able to find much information about my disease until I have ordered this book. If definitaly points you to a lot of good sources.
Thank you.
Thank you.

The Official Patient's Sourcebook on Injuries to the Meniscus
Published in Paperback by ICON Health Publications (2002)
Amazon base price: $24.95
Average review score:
disappointed
This sourcebook is so shallow and general that, except for a few key internet sites, it is not worth the money. Only 20 pages are devoted to issues directly related to the meniscus, woefully less than I had already found with a 'google search'. And so much is mainly padding. For example, in 'Additional Resources' it lists a web site for 'Hospice Care'. (If you are ready for a hospice than the knee is the least of your worries!) The vocularies are also padded. For example, do you really need definitions for 'stomach', 'oral', 'cadaver', etc.? Do you need info on how to find medical insurance, or advice about telling the doctor where it hurts? I didn't. And don't expect to find any books listed under the Chapter entitled, 'Books on injuries to the meniscus'. However, If you will be satisfied with the few truly useful websites listed, then buy this book. I, however, returned it immediately, went to my local medical library and found a good librarian.
Good guide
Anyone, who is new to this disease will find this book extremely useful. I have been able to access information and sources, which I probably would not have found on my own. The book many links to some very voluble internet sites. I really enjoy how easy and interactive it made my research.

Letters From Atlantis
I would recomend people who are interested in fantasy, Atlantis, or time travel to read this. This book was very interesting to me because I'm really into fantasy and Atlantis. This is an extremely interesting theory of the destruction of Atlantis and it could very well be true. Another reason this is a good book is because of the conversations that Prince Ram and Roy have after Roy confesses he is in the Prince's mind. I thought that those were the best parts of the book.
Amazingly accurate!!!
As an Atlantean expert, I found that "Letters from Atlantis" tallies with the information given in Bruce Coville's "The Search for Snout", Disney's "A:TLE", and many other resources. It was also a terrific read, though the end was a bit less than I had expected. Anyone looking for more information on Atlantis, Atlantica, Athilan, Romany Star, or time travel should definately read this!

Wonderful Book
This is one of the best books I have ever read. It is about a man, Roy, who travels back in time to Atlantis in a Prince's brain, and you won't believe what he discover's

Tying to make the boring into the palatable
What to do if you're trying to make something as stupid and boring as the bible into something that a poor gullible child will accept? This is the problem faced by the authors, and they do a half-way decent job of presenting bible idiocy as something partly entertaining as a comic book. Should be useful for gullible, brainwashed parents attempting to produce gullible, brainwashed children. Start them with Santa, and if they believe that, move on to the bible in comic book form.
Bible comics
Great idea with uneven results. Some superb art in places, but not always as an appropriate counterpoint to the accompanying Scriptures. The parts that do succeed are worth the cover price alone.
a Biblical Renaissance?
This book was well received by me and my teenagers. There needs to be more artistic interpretations like this that tackle scripture. Not every translation done in this book is accurate to the Word of God but every piece is brilliant in its own right. Bravo! Encore!

turned off!
This could have been pure class but the book tripped up and fell flat on its face. Basically this is a ask-peole-who-say-they-know-rollins-biography. Seems the people who were asked were from pre-Black Flag days and I would doubt if Rollins associates with them any more. The only cool moments were the drop-rollins-in-it parts about the man rolling around on the floor on glass shards and taking some dodgy chemicals cunningly stored in an eye-drops bottle... A part from that, there are no kicking-ass moments here. Unless you like the tedium of hearing the ins and outs of the long gone DC punk scene don't buy this. Instead, for some night-churning, fist clenching, manic depression, buy Black Coffee Blues (Part one) or Solipsist!
Informed often brilliant look at Black Flag and Rollins
This biography is a must for Rollins and Black Flag fans. Based on interviews, the book is peppered with quotes. This is not a fawning fan's account, although Parker is a fan he tells the story straight and shows the often negative ugly side of Rollins, his insight into the man and the music scene surrounding him can border on profound. A lot of time and detail is spent on the Black Flag years and reveals the personalities of the other band members making this a great companion to "Get In The Van", [a collection of photographs and Rollin's journal entries of those years]. Surprises are revealed, like a brief period of heavy LSD use by the straight-edge Rollins. If you ever wondered what made Rollins the unique intense person he is, this book will answer a lot of questions. A worthy often brilliant account of the early hardcore scene and its most fascinating survivor.
I put it down several times ....
... but only to get up and slip another Black Flag cd into the stereo. This is a barnstormingly passionate celebration of music, so visceral you feel you're in the scummy clubs being battered by the serious sounds. Some of the writing is great, some is ludicrously florid, most of it is both. I had a great time.
