Black Gold's soon to be jockey shows that he will never give up right in the beginning of the book. The ending has a horrid feel to it, but still Marguerite Henry, the auther will warm your heart in a way that is unforgettable.
Black Gold shares the message that you can never give up, no matter how hard the times are. When Black Gold is in serious pain, he doesn't give up. When Jaydee is put down, he doesn't give up, and when anyone has a challenge, they shouldn't give up either. They should overcome it with bravery and strength.

This book made me cry! At the beginning, it's a little boring, because it doesn't really appear to have anything to do with the main character, Black Gold! It's all about his dam (mother) Useeit. But after finishing the book you see how important it is that it's all in there, because it makes you adore Black Gold even more! This is a true story about a determined racer and a jockey who loves him so much he'll do anything to be with him, and a determined old trainer who made a big mistake.... It's amazing for any horse lover and I 100% gaurantee you'll love this book! If you don't love horses, you might find yourself really getting into them after this. I love horses and really love Thoroughbreds, and ride a half QH half TB! (he looks more QH) All I can say is this is a major must!

This is a story about a small stallion named Black Gold. He may be small, but he isn't bad. This is a heart breaking story. The boldest words I remember are the end. Black Gold's leg snapped because of a hoof crack. The words that I will always remember is: "He finished the race with three legs and a heart" That had made me cry. People of all ages should enjoy this book. Take my advice and BUY THIS BOOK!

Once again Robert Vavra presents us with a look at one of man's oldest friends - the horse. His books give readers an in-depth look at the horse in a natural setting, providing photographs taken by someone who has a deep understanding of the species. Many of the photos seem as though the horse was alone, the photographer invisible. Vavra has captured the spirit and natural freedom that wild horses enjoy. Some of the photos are so realistic that they seem to place the reader right there with the horses. Whether you are a long time horse-lover, or someone who appreciates nature portrayed naturally, this book is enjoyable.
The book contains selected poetry, and details of six breeds with special detail to the Andalusian horse.

This book is a must have. Robert Vavra captures the splendor and beauty of the horse in amazing photo after amazing photo. Horse-lover or not, it is impossible not to marvel at the beauty of the magnificent horses captured in this book. I look through the pages of this book almost every day, each time being like the first. I can't wait to purchase more of Robert Vavra's books!

I recieved this book as a Christmas gift and I fall in love with it every time I open it! I own several American Saddlebreds and I almost never see any pictures of them. Vavra has takes the most beautiful photos. The background colors always look great with the horses. I would frame each one if I could. If you love horses and art, this book is a must for you!

This book really does what it says. I have books and tapes galore about golf, and I have never seen real results in my score. This book gave me the feel of a nice, easy, smooth swing that gave me better results than my usual grip it and rip it attempts. The drills here are some of the best I've ever tried. After the first two chapters alone, I went out and shot an 85! (I'm usually in the high 90's). Get this book, do the drills, and you'll stop thinking about every detail of your swing when your standing over the ball. (This will also save your money since you'll stop buying all those tapes and junk from t.v.)

As a new student of golf, I've read over a dozen books to improve my swing and this book is by far the best! It helps the reader develop a real feel for the golf swing in the most natural, developmental way I can imagine. Starting with hands and arms and then moving through each part of the body, it describes how the swing should feel. Best of all, the authors have designed numerous drills and exercises for the reader to actually FEEL the swing in each part of the body. While this description sounds mechanical, it produces a swing that is anything but. Not only has my swing become more fluid, controlled and consistent, my golf scores have improved significantly as well. I highly recommend this book for both beginning golfers and teachers of the game.

The most difficult part of golf is the mental game. Though cliched, that statement is incontrovertible. For most golfers, the tendency to view the swing as a mechanized process dominates their swing thoughts. "Keep my left arm straight," "Swing through to the target," "Don't reverse pivot," "Cock/load my wrists," "Put the ball back/up in your stance," "Shorten your backswing. . ." All of these ideas, though fundamentally sound in their physical advice, tend to prevent the golfer from optimizing his/her performance because they force the golfer to consciously force a complex physical activity that should really be driven by the subconscious and feeling.

As a serious golf addict and student of the game, this book, more than any other I've read, allowed me to understand my swing and improve my game. We all know the sweet feeling of hitting the ball on the sweet spot, this book devotes itself to the sweet feeling of the entire swing. I give it the highest rating I can.

The Americans is perhaps the most influential photography book published in the last 40 years. Swiss-born Robert Frank's images must have seemed completely revolutionary and startling when published in 1958. Frank used his camera to cut through the facade of a country that was beginning to build up its crust of macadam and marketing. Frank shot with available light using film that would be considered very slow by today's standards, yet his images, while many have visible grain, are gorgeous and have a full range of tones. What can one say about a classic? Is it possible to review Beethoven's Ninth? Faulker's "As I Lay Dying"? No. This is arguably the book that most influenced almost all the subsequent generations of photographers. Frank looked at the world with a fresh viewpoint and his photographs were a slap in the face. It's impossible to put ourselves in the world of photography that preceded this book because Frank has changed our prespectives so drastically.

In 1955, Swiss photographer Robert Frank traveled around the United States on a Guggenheim Fellowship. The images he created were published first in France in 1958, and then the following year in America. Highly controversial in its day, "The Americans" gave us a much needed outsiders view of who we are as a people.

Frank is an incredibly skilled image maker, able communicate on many different levels with a single image. Jack Kerouac is the perfect person to write the intro to this book. Both artists worked in a similar way, using travel, speed and chance to communicate fleeting, yet deep, feelings about our complex culture.

Perfectly enjoyable by anyone with an interest in American culture, but essential for those practicing documentary photography.

Of all the books I have read to my grandchildren, this one has been a favorite. The oldest is now twenty-three and can still recall it from memory. The book is now tattered and worn from the many happy hours of reading, but the fond memories remain always.

A small grey mouse with enormous ears is asked by the narrator who he belongs to. Why, he's nobody's mouse!! Where's his mother? Inside the cat!! Where's his father?? Inside a trap!! What about his sister?? She's lost, far, far away... My goodness!! Well, what is he going to DO about it, then?? I'll let you read to find out his fun, creative answers to his life's problems!

Originally published in 1970, "Whose Mouse are You?" is as much fun for young children and beginning readers now as it was back then. The text is short and simple, it rhymes and repeats, so even very young children can get interested in the story and repeat it after a few tellings. The illustrations are wonderfully simple and uncluttered, drawn with only with black yellow and red (from which we can get pink, orange and grey, too!)

When I was a infant/toddler teacher in daycare, "Whose Mouse are You?" was one of the all time favorites. Children just learning how to speak would call out "mouse book!! Mouse book!" and then sit glued to the pages. I've even seen an elementary school art teacher use this book to show how one does NOT need a box of 2 bazillion crayons to make interesting and fun illustrations-"get creative with limited tools" she said, passing out only red, yellow and black markers to the class.

For lapsitting readers as well as beginning readers, "Whose Mouse..." is an excellent choice and a lot of fun!! Enjoy!!

I can remember my mom reading this book to me when I was very young. I am 22 now, and I know that my Mom read many books to me when I was young, but this is one that I always remember. I can't even recall the exact subject matter, but I do remember that it made me seriously think about how I would feel if my parents and my sisters weren't with me every day. "Whose Mouse Are You?" made me consciously thankful to be a part of a loving family.

This is the best Lovecraft edition for those who have been acquainted with Lovecraft and like his writings. Definately the best of the Arkham House collections and is the first of the Arkham House books to get. Probably not the best for those unfamiliar with Lovecraft just because of the cost.

This collection includes my favorite Lovecraft story "The Shadow Over Innsmouth", as well as the wonderful stories "The Call of Cthulhu" and "The Dunwich Horror". Some of the other better stories include "The Music of Erich Zann" and "Pickman's Model". Robert Bloch's introduction is a nice supplement to Lovecraft's writings. Highly recommended, but I also recommend buying additional Lovecraft because this collection does leave out some Lovecraft gems(i.e. "At the Mountains of Madness").

It's not fair to call Lovecraft a horror writer, as from his pen have come some of the most beautiful pieces of literature ever. Tales of the macabre, the ancient, the unspeakable. His narrative style draws you in immediately, engulfing you with the rich atmosphere of the Cthulhu Mythos. Some of Lovecraft's best works are collected in this volume - The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kaddath, The Shunned House, as well as numerous short stories. Whether you're a nouveau fan or an old aquaintance, pick this book up

It's been said that Lovecraft is the only legitimate heir to Edgar Allen Poe in the field of American horror stories. Anyone who has read this collection of his best stories will have a hard time disputing this claim.

I first read THE DUNWICH HORROR & OTHERS when I was 12 years old and, though I may not have had much contact with Lovecraft's writing since, I have carried these tales with me. His writing informed my entire outlook on writing and "Weird Tales". For years afterward I was obsessed with his stuff. It's great to finally go back and re-discover him after all this time. To my surprise, the stories are just as wonderful as ever. I feared that they would not age well, would seem hokey and dated.

...Guess that 12 year old was a pretty decent judge after all.

I've been a fan of Georgette Heyer's wonderful Regency Romances for 25 years. I've started reading her books when I was 13 and my library of Heyer books is one of my most cherished possessions. Her sparkling dialogue and wonderfully created characters come alive in every page of the book. Frederica has my all time favorite Heyer heroes - The Marquis of Alverstoke is a bored and pampered aristocrat who when he meets Frederica and falls in love with her, finds his humanity and a heart beneath his cold exterior. What's wonderful about this book how warmly Frederica's family is portrayed. This book is full of wonderful romance, humor, and heartwarming joy! If you read this you will become Hooked on Heyer forever...

I first stumbled upon a Georgette Heyer novel when I was 14 and for more than 30 years I have been an avid fan of her books. I got hooked on reading regency romance novels just because of Georgette Heyer books and NOTHING I have read until now (and I HAVE read a lot) compares to her original and sparkling romances. Her characters come alive on every page and there is no one who can write witty dialogue better. Frederica is one of my favorite Heyer heroines and this book has a really funny almost-proposal scene.

Like the reader from Seoul, I began reading Georgette Heyer around age 13. I quickly discovered Frederica, and in fact, tried to use a passage from the book for an elocution contest (unsuccessfully). What is it about this book that stays with you over the ages?

I believe it is not just Georgette Heyer's wit, sparkling dialogue, careful historical research (despite the occasional error), or her lively characters. Somehow this book transcends even her usual output. Both the hero and heroine are older and more mature, with Frederica believing that she is fit only to be a chaperone. The Marquess is bored, cynical, and shows more affection for his secretary than for any member of his family. And of course, he values his horses above them all, as famously said by his sister. While his intentions for taking up Frederica and her family are hardly benevolent, his continued interaction with her and her irrepressible younger brothers Felix and Jessamy gradually humanize him. In that sense, this is the Heyer book closest in spirit to Pride and Prejudice, my all-time favorite. Perhaps that is why I love them both.

There is a thrilling chase after a balloon which results in near-tragedy, the usual minor characters who act in ways designed to exasperate the hero and heroine, and two sub-plots with two other couples falling in love during the book. The latter half of the book takes place with Frederica very preoccupied with family concerns. If you want a book full of drama and chases, this might disappoint you. However, this is the very part which shows me how much Alverstoke has changed. The part about the pork jelly is priceless, but I will leave it to the reader to find that out.

In conclusion, if you like the mature Georgette Heyer with the older hero and heroine, this is probably going to become one of your favorites.

I have always been greatly impacted by the words and works of Roberts Liardon and this book is no exception. I've actually heard him preach on this series before, but reading it straight from the book is a definite different experience. He makes each unique individual come alive with fire and passion. This book will open the eyes of many to catch a glimpse of the awe-inspiring lives of men and women who once lived so very closely to the Most High God!

I really enjoyed this book. It was a blessing to me and I learned a lot from it. I especially enjoyed reading about: Smith Wigglesworth, Jack Coe, Amy Mchperson, A.A. Allen, Kathryn Kuhlman and others. Roberts is an anointed man of God and it shows in his writing. I love to read his books and watch his videos. They are very inspirational! If you haven't read this book, READ IT! It will help change your life!

With these men and women that God has called him to write about, he explains their lives, and helps us to look at ourselves more in deph with the spirit realm. Are we walking according to God's standards? Are we operating in the great gifts of the Holy Spirit? Are we showing compassion and love and taking care of our bodies which are the temples of the Holy Ghost? These questions may arrouse you when you read this book, or watch the video series. I encourage any baptized believer in Christ who wants to grow spiritually to read this book! It will help change you life!

Evil is everywhere. This story is about a family that moves into a duplex in PA, which is haunted by ghosts, and even a demon. These presences immediatly latch onto the family and terrorize them to no end. There are rappings on the wall at all hours, some of the family members are levitated and thrown around, they are followed even when they go camping, there are noises, smells, and cold spots. Noone would help them, not even their own church. Then a team of demonologist come to help but do they??? This is not a book to read alone...

This is an excellent book,very well written. Anyone who has seriously studied demomology, or the paranormal, will know this book is true to the facts, from the bangings in the walls, to the terrible odors, to the physical and mental abuse that inhuman spirits put upon their human victems, to horrible manifestations. This family suffered greatly under the hand of a true inhuman spirit, but yet survived it toegether as a family because their faith in God did not falter. If you have followed Ed and Lorraine Warrens teachings, this book is a must read...

If you are looking for a wonderful combination of Basquiat's work and biography, this is the book to own. This book is full of many beautiful color plates of his work, as well as the story of his short, successful, but tragic life as an artist who had his brief moment in the sun before succumbing to the drugs.

THE best book on Basquiat out there! A very talented New York artist that started out doing graffiti on the New York Subways as SAMO and instantly became famous after one day meeting Andy Warhol and giving him a postcard of his artwork. They became quick friends and Warhol had a great influence on his very short career even though Jean-Michel's work is totally different. Jean Michel died tragically from a drug overdose. Cool little known fact - He dated Madonna! Great photos of the Jean-Michel and an incredible extended chronology in the back of the book. Best yet info on the artist existing anywhere in the the book. Color plates of his art work are superb, large, and mostly one per page, incredible color. I highly recommend this book if you are a fan of Jean-Michel or his friends Keith Haring, Kenny Scharf, or Andy Warhol.

This is a great book with many of Basquiat's paintings and drawings. It also has various essays by art critics and people who knew him. I suppose the reviewers who slammed Basquiat also think anybody could knock over a couple of paint buckets and be Jackson Pollock. The genius of Basquit in my mind is his ability to create truly beautiful paintings while painting in a seemingly uncontrolled, primitive (I hate that word) fashion. The way he layered colors, and added details is incredible. My favorite is "Untitled (Skull)" 1981. Here is a brilliant example of how Basquiat combines dissarray, ugliness, harmony, and beauty all into the same striking painting. I know Basquiat idolized Hendrix and ultimately went out much like he did, unable to cope with his talent and the attention it brought. To me Basquiat's painting very much mirrors Hendrix's musical talents. They both created wild, noisy, seemingly unharnessed, unpolished art. But to the careful, sensitive observer the true beauty and magic is revealed.
