Lovely
Tom & Pippo's Day
My son loves all the Tom & Pippo books and we have all the ones that are still in print! I recommend any of these Tom & Pippo books by Helen Oxenbury as they are very sweet and perfect bedtime reading for toddlers and preschool ages. I wish she would write more as I enjoy the little simple but adorable story lines as well!
Endearing story of friendship
This book beautifully communicates the friendship a toddler feels for his favorite stuffed toy. My daughter loves this book -- she's not even one year old but the instant I say "Do you want to read Pippo with me?" she is happy and eager to help turn the pages. Few things entertain her for more than a few minutes (except, of course, my dog's food dish) but she will sit and listen to this book as often as I will read it. It's a very short book but the effect upon her is consistently magical. I cannot say enough good things about it, but I must stop typing regardless -- I've got to go order more "Tom and Pippo" books for my daughter.

Time to Accept It--God is a Woman
The author and illustrator of this book do a masterful job of conveying a contemporary feminist spiritual message without becoming preachy or pedantic, thus making the story very appealing to children of all ages. The text rolls off the tongue with a poetic fluidity and the paintings are so engaging that you will find yourself reading this book to your little ones again and again.
That's good, that's real good....
This fabulous version of the creation story/myth has my almost three-year-old mezmerized. Big Momma, part goddess, part buddha (as admitted by the illustrator) single-handedly makes the world (although her dishes and laundry do pile up in the process). Her daily accomplishments mirror the Genesis story of creation but with a Root-endowed Southern drawl. If you are able to appreciate the gender change, this is a lovely, refreshing version of creation your child is sure to love. It is well-written and beautifully illustrated.

A simple and sweet book, easy for little ones to memorize.
All the books in the series are perfect for small children, both boys and girls. These basic books with simple illistrations and rhymes are sure to be a favorite of any 1-2 year old. A multi-racial book.
Superb for children 6 months to 18months
This book is perfect for children just learning to label the world. Ms. Oxenbury uses one word desciptions to label items involved with getting dressed. The graphic is merely a baby. Something a child can easily identify with! On the first page, for example, is the word diaper, with a diaper under it. On the facing page, a baby sits dressed only in a diaper. The book continues until the baby is dressed from the hat to the shoes. The illustrations are delightful - even to an adult!

Great first board book.
This is one book of a series including Family, Working, Playing, and Dressing. All feature a toddler as he (she?) adventures forth and discovers new things. In this episode the tyke befriends different animals including a dog, a cat, and a hen. Friends is my favorite in the series because the animals are drawn so comically. For example, you can see that the dog is just tolerating the child's attention (just like my golden retriever looks when the neighborhood toddlers come for a visit). These books introduced my sons to bedtime story reading seventeen years ago. The set makes a wonderful baby present - something children can enjoy from about 6 months to 2 and 1/2 years.
A simple book that is simply wonderful!
A cute baby and his furry friends teach names of animals. This book is so simple, young babies can enjoy it, and older toddlers can make up stories about the illustrations. It has been one of our baby's favorite's since he was 8 months old. He's 16 months now, and still comes back to it.

Beautiful little books
My fourth child (age 27 months) is now enjoying the Pippo books, which she inherited from her older siblings. Helen Oxenbury gets the drawings of toddlers exactly right, and their lives, too- loving their toys; going to the grocery store with Mom; making a friend. These are my very favorite books for small children.
Little boy love Pippo
My 2.5 year old little boy liked this book from the onset. Any toddler can relate to losing his favorite toy. Story and illustrations are very toddler appropriate

Wonderful book
We found this book in the library, and my 2 year old loves it, so we're buying it for XMAS. As the previous reviewer said, lots of great stories and illustrations. We keep coming back to it to!
a great baby shower present
We just bought this book this morning, and have read the whole thing today! As it is an anthology, there are lots of great (30 in total) stories, all of which I do believe are complete versions of actual children's book, along with some of their wonderful illustrations. There are stories of many different moods-- funny, rhyming, quiet, silly, serious. The illustrations are also very varied. It is a great book to take on vacation, as it is compact, but contains lots of great reads for little ones. My personal favorites (after only one day!) are "The Big, Big Sea" and "The Little Boat". DEFINATELY worth buying. (My two month old son seemed to love it!)

small pleasures
My daughter loves Tom and Pippo books, and I don't mind reading them again and again. The illustrations are lovely and engaging. And the story is just toubling enough for a toddler to discuss and enjoy.
My son wants to read it again and again.
If your child has a special toy friend, he or she will love this and other books about Tom and Pippo. Their simple yet troublesome experience on the tricycle is one we all can identify with, including children who don't have ever-present stuffed animal side-kicks. Helpful big kids like Stephanie are so interesting to toddlers, and her solution is one we will go out and try as soon as the snow melts.

Helen Oxenbury's Working
Comforting and peaceful, Helen Oxenbury's Working moves through the happenings of a baby's day with true insight into what matters most to those people under three. It is work to use a potty, feed yourself, and get through naptime on your own! This book validates where children are in their developing lives and makes them feel successful!
Another great Helen Oxenbury!
Once again, Helen Oxenbury uses her beautiful , simple pictures to delight babies and teach them the words that fill their days- potty, high chair, bathtub, crib, etc... By the way, the baby on the potty is working!

The Animal House
Calling this book "surreal" would be too obvious and to under-describe it. It's very slight, but has a spooky charm - partly because Ivor Cutler leaves out a lot of the "sensible" strings that would hold a more earthbound story together. There are mad leaps in the narrative that keep you hooked, waiting for the next one - quite apart from the joy of the central, inspired idea. A family wake up one morning to find their house blown away, except for the electrical points, the milk on the doorstep, and the eggs for their breakfast. Naturally enough, since Mr Diamond is a zookeeper, the solution is to bring animals from the zoo to form a new house - elephants and camels for walls, snakes for roof beams, birds for roof covering. Fireflies make light and heat, and their pillows that night are warm, furry, and breathing. Then their old house turns up ....... This book has enough tiny delights in it to bring you back time after time - our 9-year-old daughter still takes huge pleasure in it 5 years after we first got a copy. Now we want more - to give as presents! Somebody please reprint!

Their's much more than just a story about Tom's day or his friendship with Pippo for my son and I to talk about, as Oxenbury's simple and sweet writing let you explore what she *hasn't* said.
I know this by heart, which is good, because my son has worn the words right off the pages!
