Calorie counter for people with bad taste
When you look up lasagna in this book you get a page of frozen entrees by brand name. I can extrapolate from those what my homemade lasagna has, but it's kind of disgusting to think that everyone is either eating frozen food or at franchise restaurants. Also, why do I need a book to tell me how many calories in a frozen entree when the package has that information? I need a thinner reference with the basic information to figure the calories of foods that don't come with labels.

what a book!
This book is okay. I use it on daily basis. Sometimes the fact that all the foods are listed in terms of brand names is a little confusing but can be overcome.

Extensive counts on most all foods!
This is a little book jam packed with information! The only thing missing were some Dunkin Donut treats.

Don't Be Fooled By Its' Size
At first glance this book seems to be a comprehensive guide to food values both generically and by brand, but the information it contains could have been printed in a book a third its' size. It is unnecessarilly redundant.

For example, if you are looking up sliced cheese from the deli, it lists many brands, but they all have essentially the same values. The book also frequently omits the "lite" version of such items.

Save your money and buy a pocket book. This book is not much better than one.

Good for reference. Needs and RDA chart/appendices
The book is great for at home reference. Much more in depth than most books of its kind. Lists fat, saturated fat, fiber, cal., etc. Major vitamins and minerals. The book is lacking an RDA chart and could use more info on what are desired consumption values. Also could use a chapter on how to read food labels and how to use the info on the label.

A good value for the price.

Timeless Resource Guide
I purchased this book many years ago, and have used it continuously! It is the definative resource guide for those of us who want take control of our lives. Know what you're eating, the calories, nutrients, minerals, etc. so that you can make choices for yourself.

A must for EVERY home. A wonderful gift for those you love.

Good book, but always check the caloric contents
This book has a lot of good recipes that are very delicious. However, if you're on a diet and watching calories and sodium in addition to fat content, be sure to review what's in each recipe. A good portion of these recipes are low-fat but still high in calories and/or sodium. So just be careful.
One other observation; they give you a recipe for chicken stock at the beginning of the book, which looks pretty good. Problem is, it seems like nearly every recipe in the book requires the use of it. You can also use canned chicken stock, but then you have an even bigger sodium problem. If you want to avoid the use of chicken stock, it really limits the # of recipes you can use from this book.

Disappointing
I think she spends too much time on name brand food items that already have calorie etc. count on their labels and not enough on generic foods which is where my interests are. I need approximation on fresh and commons foods as we try to eat fresh rather than packaged foods.

Disappointed
It wasn't what I was expecting. I thought it would have more in depth numbers such as fat, carb, ect. It only listed calories. I ended up returning it since I wanted so much more information. I thought it was great that there were caloric listings for many popular products and fast food places but it still wasn't enough for me to keep it.

Just the idea of low-fat and good
I'm sorry, but this book was just another fabricated "lets get healthy" cooking book, that even had similar recipes to every other book ive seen, trying to be healthy. Its very hard for me to believe that yet another cook would attempt a book that has no originality and no stories at least giving an idea to you about what style of cooking you are using, and how you could include it into a dinner, lunch, or breakfast. I would give it a one-and-a-half, just because of the cover's picture which does make you believe there are good recipes inside, but i decided to round down. I suggest you watch "Essence of Emeril" on the food channel, instead of buying this worthless book.

take a pass
Estrangements are common and a compelling problem and few books or articles seriously address the issue. I bought Netzer's book hoping to find a realistic road map for both healing estrangements--and living with them when there is no alternative. She seems so hell bent on getting people back in contact at all costs that she fails to recognize that there are sometimes legitimate reasons not to close those gaps. She doesn't seem to realize--or perhaps thinks it impossible--that sometimes estrangement IS the well-adjusted, healthy choice. The "case studies" are simplistic and unrealistic; overall, I found the book very disappointing. Don't bother. Check out, instead, "The Forgiving Self," by Robert Karen--which does a somewhat better job addressing the topic.

You will get more information reading food labels
This book gathers together calorie counts from food packaging and goverment sources. This is of limited value since the calorie count is listed on all packaged food you buy these days. This is no listing of the fat content, which many people are watching.

The part that really disapointed me was the lack of information on fresh foods. So it is difficult to figure out what food you prepare at home or eat at your local non-franchise dinner might be costing you in calories.

I know it would be impossible to know exactly how many calories are in the food at my local eatery but it would be nice to have enough information to make a wise and informed choice.

There is a lot of information on calorie counter from national chain eateries, but this was of limited use to me.

I am looking for a different source of information.
