AMAZING FANTASY TO REMEMBER
It is a wonderful story with the idea of cats as aliens come back to earth to collect their cousins. (earthling cats) It is a wonderful story where a boy and girl hear them thought-speak to their cousins to come home and learn too much. It is a MUST READ.

She's the greatest!
I found this Witch world novel at a garage sale and got it. I had read the Turning 1 & 2 so I thought "Why not?" It turned out to be the best nickel I ever spent. It realy filled out the characters, the Tregarth triplets. As always I found Ms. Norton's writing wonderful and expressive.

A must read for those who read Zero Stone.
I found this to be a most enjoyable book to read after I finished reading The Zero Stone. It continues the search of Eet and Murodc for the source of the Zero Stone. It reveals more of the stone's power. And, after rescueing the Zacathan from raiders, how they are able to trace the stone to it's source and the final outcome of Murdoc and Eet is surprising. I do hope that they continue with the tale of Murdoc and Eet.

Wonderful combo of gothic and post gold rush California
Told in traditional gothic's heroine's first person voice, this is a very good example of Norton's world building even when that world is the straitlaced world of high Victorian America. Both coasts are covered but it centers on San Francisco. Very good detail on period settings and clothing while holding to a very realistic appraisal of the rigid morals and confines for women ot that time. The heroine does it all but the hero does make a proper entrance from time to time and comes through at the end. Some very very good characterizations of a whole multitude of cast members.

Janus Lives Again !
One of my favorite books had been Judgement On Janus, as I loved the characters, but I always wanted to know what happened to them, and did the Iftin continue to flourish. This one answers those questions and more, including the identity of the Iftin's great enemy. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed the earlier Judgement On Janus, or vintage Norton fantasy such as Catseye, Quag Keep, or Breed To Come. And no, you may not borrow my copy !

The journey continues
This book was a great sequal to the novel Witch World because it continues Simon Tergarth's journey and trials in the Witch World. If you read the first book then you have to continue on the journey with all of our favorite characters and find out how it will end...Do the witches accept Simon and his powers finally or do they still ignore them? Only by reading this great novel will you find out!!

if you like fantasy, this book is well worth it
ever since about february 2001, i've been on a fantasy kick, which is a pretty big jump for me, seeing as how my favorite books before this were mystery/suspense. anyways, my boyfriend gave me "the elvenbane" and "elvenblood" for christmas this year. i read both of them over the christmas break and fell in love. shana is one of the most powerful female fantasy characters i've ever read, which is really refreshing. plus, it's nice to read a book where dragons aren't exactly bad guys (like smaug in "the hobbit"). granted, some of them are lazy and selfish, but then again, so are some people. keman (shana's dragon foster brother) has to be my favorite character in the whole series, next to shana.
i'd give you a run-down of the plot, but you already see it in nearly every other one of these reviews, so i'll just stick with my opinion. the writing is very smooth and tight; never once did i find myself unexpectedly jarred out of the story because something didn't ring true. the conflict between the races in the book is totally realistic, and you can practically feel shana's frustration at the stubbornness of some of the people.
normally, i would give this five stars, but i read the "sword of truth" series by terry goodkind before i read these books and, well, "wizard's first rule" has to be the best fantasy book i've ever read, no contest. but these books definitely deserve their place as a close second in my favorite fantasy list. i can't wait to read "elvenborn."

A great book
This book is a masterpiece of simplicity. The basic story is full of emotion, and unlike all the new writers who get paid by the word, this one cuts in words in such a way you don't have to look at the dictionary every third word or so and yet it doesn't lessen the story one bit, on the contrary, it makes it more enjoyable and easier to read! The two witers used very basic elements in this story, dragons elvens and humans, but the mix is quite new and very interesting, in fact their world is very diffrent from the Forgatten Realms/ DnD, so you will finish the book saying "this IS a fantasy book but I've never read a fantasy book that resemble it."

The reason this book gets 4 stars and not 5 is that although the story is diffrent it is quite predictable (some people like it better though), and although the world they created is diffrent the book in general is not thought-provoking (althoug in general fantasy books are not thought- provoking), and the characters could have been more complex (that DOES resemble old Forgatten Realms books).

dragons and elves and halfbloods oh my!
this is one of thhe best books i have ever read. lately ive been on an anne mccaffery fix, so im a dragon person. i saw the cover w/ a dragon on it. and bought it on a whim. i couldnt put it down after that. all other commitments were forgotten. all i wanted to dfo was delv into the world of shana, a halfblood, a wizard, elven dad, human mom. theres a beautiful mixture of characters. elves, dragons, wizards, humans, even unicorn (aka one-horns) are mentioned.the character development of all is exquisit. and their interactions superb. i tell you i have read fantasy books all my life. and i love the bled of common fantasy elements with new twists and turns. i would recommend this book to all people. elf lovers, dragon lovers, magic lovers, everyone will love this book.

A pleasing and lively adaption
Forget for the moment the established theory that the center of the Earth is a ball of fire, and enjoy this wonderful adventure written over a century ago that offered an alternative view. I'm a big fan of Journey To The Center Of The Earth. I've read the book and seen the movie countless times, and still never tire of it. Alien Voices attempts to tell the story in a way that would suit a modern audience, while still retaining the spirit of the original. Long, descriptive passages can be circumvented in the aural medium with a few lines of dialogue or sound effects, and tighten the pace. Projecting the fascination of the unknown and portraying science in a highly positive way is indeed very Verne, and in this Alien Voices get it exactly right. Leonard Nimoy is an unsurpassably brilliant actor who brings the crotchety and irascible Professor Lidenbrock to life with panache. This is one man whose voice is perfectly suited to audio. John DeLancie unfortunately overdoes his part way too much for my liking, being too soppy and emotive as Axel. Still, that's the way Axel was written, so I can't say he got it wrong! The acting all round is competant, though it's mostly Nimoy and DeLancie who we hear, and they are seasoned professionals in film and t.v anyway. Put this on the headphones, and the sound quality becomes most evident, and you'll soon be taken away into the past. A worthy interpretation, for the most part, certainly to be congratulated for being far truer to the novel than the nonetheless highly enjoyable 1959 film.

Enduring science fiction classic
Reading this book is an amazing adventure, as evidenced by a century of avid readers. I picked it up on a lark and decided to read the first five or ten pages to see if it was my type. It was easy to read, enjoy and visualize, and I quickly finished it.

The story revolves around a young man and his uncle, who is a scientist. They discover a route to the center of the earth (hence the title), and the novel is about their journey. Once you get 100 pages into this book, you aren't able to stop. The things they find boggle the mind, but seem so real.

100 years from now, people will still be enjoying Jules Verne, because he captures the imagination of the young explorer.

Excellent Adventure
So, what is so special about going to the center of the earth. Its fun and its a possibility!

'A Journey to the Center of the Earth', is a narration by Axel who takes a trip to the center of the earth with his uncle, a famous mineralogist. They start their journey from a mountain in Iceland and end up.....

Although, this idea is impossible(?) but the author has given such proofs that while reading the book, you actually start thinking that just may be it is possible. And come to think of it, there is yet another world miles under our feet!

The story is narrated in very simple way with very few scientific details and terminologies used unlike '20,000 leagues under the sea' by the same author, where he used so many of complex marine terms that a person not familiar with them get frustrated.

A good adventure book just like rest from Jules Verne. Stronly recommended to those who have taste for such adventures like going to the earth's center or going around the world in 80 days (with no air travel).
