An excellent, detailed overview for both experts and novices
This text is an excellent textbook for both infectious disease professionals and for students of infectious disease epidemiology. Nelson and colleagues cover a range of essential topics from a survey of important historical epidemics to study designs for infectious disease investigations. The first part of the text covers ID epidemiology background and methodology, whereas the second focuses on specific diseases as examples of different transmission modalities. TB, HIV and Influenza are among the pathogens discussed in great detail. Chapters are written by experts in their respective fields, making this textbook not only authoritative, but also up-to-date in scope and content. Many of the authors are affiliated with the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health or the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. "Infectious Disease Epidemiology" is extremely readable, and serves as an excellent reference tool. I highly recommend it.

Average review score:

Essential reading for everyone interested in OBE.
Throughout the world, outcome-based education has many supporters and many critics, most of whom will agree that Spady is the most significant contributer to this aspect of educational theory and practice. In the first part of his latest book, Spady traces the development of his ideas on OBE. He then very frankly discusses how everything went wrong as OBE came under attack in 1992 and 1993. He goes on to explain what the major objections to OBE were and presents logical, well-reasoned responses to those criticisms.

In the second half of the book, Spady presents a "Future Empowerment Paradigm" that is designed to help school districts transform the way they approach teaching and learning. This approach is very much oriented to the "techno-information age", and presents a viable alternative to the "educentric" way in which most education systems operate currently.

The book is compelling reading for anyone genuinely interested in provid! ing education that will equip students for the future.

great book
This is really a great book on respiratory care. In many areas it beats out Egan's RC except for sections on mechanical ventilation and neonatal chapter. It has an excellent section on cardiopulmonary diseases(as does Egan's RC)and a chapter on mechanical ventilation for neonates and peds. One section that needs to be improved is cardiopulmonary A&P, which was done pretty much vaguely(Egan's has great section on this area). Also the first section is just too long (important area, but not that important to be included in a major text; needs to be shortened from 200 pgs to less than 50 and use that space for improving MV, cardiopulmonary A&P, and neonatal chapters). This book also has great illustration in 2-color and basically it is a great book; mainly for RT's, but has many sections that can be of use for med students ,nurses, docs and so on. Highly recommend.
