HAM's to Engineers Antenna Reference: Highly Recommended!
This is a great ham reference, for anybody who builds, designs
and puts up antennas. Its not just for the HAM , it also can be for the shortwave listener that has a pricey receiver, and needs a serious antenna. Attn: serious FM DXers:(Sporadic E theory in here!), and also for the AM listener for loop antennas. LOWFERS!: There is a special section for
you also in this book, in page 6-35 to 6-39. There is also some great stuff for the student that needs some extra information on the how radio waves travel. Also there is a EME section in here also for space hams, that use our moon as a reflector to
get somewhere else in the world.

This is essential
No matter what you think of the ARRL, if you are a member or or not, they do provide the ham community with some invaliable resources. This book is one of them. It includes information on how to safely work on a tower, how to build antena, computer modling, RF exposure limits, antena theory, and a lot more. Plus it includes as CD-ROM with some of the programs mentioned in the text.

A must for all new hams, or anyone who wants to know more about antena. For hams who already have previous editions, you may want it just for the software.

The ARRL Antenna Book
Although this book is angled toward radio amateurs ("ham" radio operators) it would be of interest to all interested in antennas.

It's updated yearly by hams and covers the field from theory to actual construction projects. In addition to antennas it covers transmission lines and antenna tuners (transmatch devices).

I'm buying a new one this year. My 8-year-old one is getting tattered from continual use, so it's time to get a fresh one. However, they are so good I save the old ones too.

Smart Antennas for Wireless Communications: Is-95 and Third Generation Cdma Applications

Not a bulky book and yet impressive
Needless to say: this book will certainly be one of the fundamentals used in both, undergraduated and graduated curricula, as it covers the roots of adaptive and smart antennas technologies, among other topics. The way it explains the essentials leads to experts and non-experts to get into this field very quickly if also attending onto the cited references. I highly recommend it and the price is worth of it.

One of the Best Books in Smart Antennas
I used this book as a source when I did a project in my Wireless & Mobile Comm. course. My topic was Smart Antennas for wireless applications. The book was very helpful. It is well written, organized and easy to read. It provides a lot of research issues and engineering solutions for Smart antennas for next generation wireless systems. I recommend this book for all researchers and engineers working in this field.

Liberti and Rappaport's book on Smart Antennas
The book is very good, to be brief. I have taught a course out this book for senior undergraduates and 1st year graduates. One needs to have a course on electromagnetic fields and a course on stochastic processes and random variables - at the undergraduate level(s).

The book covers a lot of important topics and as the previous critic had opined, this book is really good for all practicing r.f. engineers in the wireless industry.

Antenna Theory and Design

Maxwell Equations
It is a real pity that this book is out of print. What I like the most about it is the use of Maxwell Equations to proof many important Antenna Theory results such as Reciprocity and the treatment of the circuit properties of antennas. Unfortunately I have never been able to get a copy of it. Please IEEE, have you ever thought about a reprint?

Elliott's Book is a Classic
Antenna Theory and Design provides a penetrating insight into the design and analysis of antennas. The book is unique in providing thorough and very readable coverage of many important topics that are not found, or are only discussed superficially, in other "similar" antenna text books.

Antenna Theory and Design is not a typical textbook that attempts to give a brief overview of every antenna possible. The topics covered in Antenna Theory and Design reflect the work of the author in his extensive career. Thus, some antennas, such as microstrip patch radiators, are barely mentioned because the author did not work on them. Other antennas, most notably the theory and practice of designing array antennas, receive thourough treatment that is not found elsewhere.

Edge slots
This book is often overlooked as just another intro. text on the subject of antennas. It has an excellent section on waveguide slot arrays. Elliot is one of the greatest antenna engineers, and his books and papers are all excellent.

Antenna Zoning : For the Radio Amateur

Provides a treasure chest of material!
For those who find themselves facing potential new, adverse local government regulation, ARRL has recently released a new publication, Antenna Zoning for the Radio Amateur by Fred Hopengarten, K1VR. This is an excellent new publication that provides a lot of material to help you as you approach local governing bodies to be able to put up an antenna.

There is a CD ROM with documents you can use directly to aid your efforts. The book may seem a bit pricey ..., but if you find that you are in need of an attorney's services in your quest, you can save more than the cost of this book in attorney's fees because the book provides a treasure chest of material your attorney will not have to search out! I highly recommend this book!

Delightful book & CD which are full of useful tips and info
This is a delightful book and CDROM which are full of useful tips and info. Hopengarten impressively thought of everything and still expresses interest in learning and sharing more.

We're certainly fortunate in this wonderful hobby of ours to have talented individuals like Fred Hopengarten, Jim O'Connell and other volunteer counsels to share valuable insight into the various aspects of our hobby.

Whenever another ham knocks the ARRL, my response always includes remarks to the effect that everything I know about ham radio comes from ARRL literature. This magnum opus certainly further justifies my thoughts in this regard.

A MUST read for anyone planning to put up a tower
I am really excited about this book. I get a lot of e-mails and telephone calls asking for zoning information. This new ARRL book is a MUST read for anyone planning to put up a tower. Get the book and read it before you even look at an antenna catalog.

Fred Hopengarten, K1VR, a communications lawyer and contester, has written a truly fine book designed to save the serious amateur a lot of money, time and grief. It is a must read for any ham who plans to buy a house and put up a dream antenna system. Even before you buy the house or begin looking at tower and antenna catalogs you should get a copy of the book. There is practical advice on selecting a real estate agent, dealing with a town clerk, and getting a copy of the local building codes. Fred covers every subject you can think of and then adds quite a few you didn't think of but should have.

Don't be put of by the ... price tag as it will be the best money you will spend on the entire house and antenna project. Your initial reaction may be that this is way too much for a book that is only 286 pages long, but be aware that you also get a CD-ROM crammed full of precedent setting cases, sample letters and documents designed to help you and your lawyer prepare you zoning application and or appeal. Director Jay Bellows, KØQB, a Minnesota lawyer who serves on the Tower Assistance Committee with me, feels that the CD-ROM is the best part of the book as you or your lawyer can edit the PDF files using Word and tailor them to your needs.

Even for an old veteran of many tower battles this a truly invaluable book. Fred takes us through the entire process providing detailed guides along the way with tips on how to talk to town officials and what not to say. These are very important things easily forgotten. He makes the point that you should at all times be the good guy in the white hat who lets the town know what he is doing an why. It is surprisingly easy to read which is a real accomplishment with a subject as detailed and complicated.

The book is designed to give you a view of the entire process and help you avoid the pitfalls that others have fallen into along the way. It is a college course in the subject at a graduate level. Some few may discover after reading it that they came across the book too late in the process and would be better off changing their plans or looking for a second dream house.

It will save me hours on the telephone when a local ham calls for advice. But even for them the book may be helpful in making that decision possible. The best advice I can now give is before you even begin to look for a house, read Antenna Zoning for the Radio Amateur. Failure to buy and read it is almost certainly guaranteed to cost you many times more in money and time wasted.

PhD. @ University of Minnesota
This is a very nice book and would recommend it for any one interested in the field of high-speed wireless data communications & Multiantennas Technology.

Excellent Treatment
This book was extremely helpful to me. It is an in-depth treatment of the subject of high-speed wireless data communications.

The modern interpretations of several complicated subjects in communication theory make this book fairly unique. The connection with electromagnetics is also something I enjoyed.

I recommend this book.

Needs table of symbols
In a book that is heavily mathematic, it is very useful to have a table of symbols to refer to. However, this text not only has no such table, but the author often fails to define the symbols he uses! He cannot assume that the symbols he uses is so standard that the reader will already be familiar with them. Also, he even often fails to define his terms directly, but relies on homonyms in subsequent sentences, and apparently expects the reader to infer the meaning, and to know that he refers to the previous concept. However, this can lead to many misunderstandings and impedes the progress of learning substantially.

Great Antenna Book
This is a good Antenna Book. It gives a clear introduction on how wave radiates from antenna, and gives many practical examples on how to design various antennas. I particularly like one of the design problem where a TV antenna (Yagi-Uda Antenna) can be constructed cheaply using coat hangers. Although it does not have as many examples as the antenna book by Balanis, it still covers many aspects of antenna analysis including method of moments and FDTD.

Solid, no compromise professional text.
It even feels heavy ! Discones, patches, loops, rhombics - good solid theory even on the less common. A good (slightly dated) review of computer design tools. Recommended for professionals in the antenna field (no pun intended).
