very poor
I have read the Destroyer series since book 1, this one is a stinker

A far cry from the early heights
I have read almost all of the books in this series and this one is nowhere near the best. Compared to the early books, this one is pale and weak. The plot might have been OK for 100 or 150 pages, but there's at least 150 pages of boring filler material in this one; besides, a very similar idea was used in another book not so long ago. Although slightly better than some of the other recent editions, the satire is still strained and unfunny. The characters are reduced to caricatures who exercise their "trademark" behaviors too often, like Remo absently rotating his wrists or Smith's grey suit. Lastly, the racial and scatological jokes are the product of laziness and a severe underestimation of the readers. I love the Destroyer series, but I am finding myself more and more disgusted by the low quality of the current books.

spent the week with some old friends
I recieved this issue of the Destroyer series as well as the next book Deadly Genes for Christmas. I had not read the Destroyer for a number of years and I was happy to find everything just as I left it. There were times when I actually laughed out loud while reading, much to the annoyance of my wife who had to get to work early the next morning. I am greatly looking forward to restarting my collection. (And a special note to He Who Gallantly Throttles the Universe, please forgive me for ever thinking to abandon your awesomeness Oh Chiun the Magnificent! This humble servent to your mightiness will not stray again!)

author burned-out?
A ho-hum Remo entry. One of the other reviewers here said the author went to Hollywood or something. Looks like he dictated this entry over the phone. Boring.

Chuin and Remo live on!!
Chuin and Remo live on in this book. The back and forth arugments and humor is here in style readers are used to. The only downfall is that there is no real challenge for the Masters of Sinanju. Still a good read just for Remo and Chuin's interplay and the taking on of the Japanese Corporation at the first of the book. The airplane/Japan chapter is CLASSIC Destroyer!

New Flair to the Destroyer keeps it alive and well!
I really enjoy the destroyer series and have been collecting the series for years now. With a new writer the series has taken a new approach with following of Remo and Chiun's lives. The humour is still there while the plots just get better and better. The shots taken at real life situations double the read pleasure of the book and help it stay interesting. This is one series I would really hate to see end!!! :

A fast paced, funny, and interesting read
This book went by quite fast, but I don't know if that was because it was good or not. It was funny and I found myself laughing out loud. Mainly because of the humourous dialog between the main characters. It had some action but kind of seemed less action-packed than the others of the series. Overall I would recommend this book to others and wish them a good read

Should have stuck with the stoey line.
For over 90 books , Remo has been a foster child with no living relatives. Now Smith might be his father, give me a break.. Warren Murphy must be getting tried...

The Fishing Lure Collector's Bible - R. L. Streater
I was disappointed. To begin, this book is a very difficult read. The 'Color Gallery' is beautiful but the picture captions give little or no information and refer the reader to the 'Value Guide'. Here is the problem. The 'Guide' appears to be nothing more than a collection of 400+ pages of poor b&w photocopies of old magazine ads! The copy consists of small, hard to read newsprint; tiny, type-written 'values'; hand-lettered, cartoonish descriptions and comments and some 'hand-drawn' depictions of various lures. The rest of the lure pictures range from coarse 'line-drawings', to 'blotchy', to totally black silhouettes. All told, it is difficult to judge the content due to the lack of detail, which should be the priority here. Perhaps I have been spoiled. My first book on this subject was Carl F. Luckey's "Old Fishing Lures & Tackle", a totally classy and professionally done work. It is everything the 'Collector's Bible' is not. Mr. Luckey's publication is done, and done well. Mr. Streater's publication looks like a second or third draft, not yet ready to go to the printer.

Weakest book in this series I've read so far.
I don't know whether it was that I had a lot going on while I was trying to read this book (Normally I go through these books in a day or two, this one tok me a week), or if it's just the story that bugged me, but this book is the weakest in this series so far, at least among the books I've read. It seemed like te story was unfocused, and more attention was paid to humorous bits or litle side-tracks than to the actual plot. Add to that a villain who really wasn't very threatening or menacing, and other characters who weren't as interesting as theyusually are in the series, and this book gets a D in my book. Oh well. When you write four books a year in a series, you're bound to have a couple baddies in the bunch. Besides, as I said, it may have been my fault I didn't enjoy the book. In any event, there's my two cents on it.

The series has lost the magnetism of old.
I have been a fan of The Destroyer series for a long time, but Mr. Murphy has lost control of the essence of the originals ideals. I am sorry to say that I won't be reading the series any more.

Almost as bad as #108
The only reason I bought any of the series after reading #108 was a review I read here for #111.

As for this book it is written by someone not familiar with Remo, Chiun and Smith. I an guessing the author writes Mack Bolan books or similar because they have completely missed the point of what Sinanju is and what skills Remo and Chiun have.

For example, Remo worried about people with guns? Remo and Chiun have destroyed whole Armies in previous books. There are other numerous errors that indicate a poor understanding of the whole series.

Skip books #108, #109 and #110 if you are a Destroyer lover.

When Will It End!!!!!
When will Mr. Murphy realize that the junk that is being passed off as Destroyer novels is unexceptable. From day one of the adventure I was hooked, now the adventure is trying to get thru this book, with all the inadequacies these ghost authors have, it is high time that Mr.Murphy takes control of this series it rights the ship. When Remo is Remo and Chuin is Chuin, then will I start believing again in the Glorious House of Sinanju!!!!!!!

Skip this book if you are a Destroyer Fan
Remo goes out at night looking for some people to beat up. Not the Master Assassin we have come to know and love.

Remo is also making basic mistakes and Chiun wants to take him back to the beginning. The writer forgets that he is a Master now, not some beginner. He swims a whole 100 meters underwater, in earlier books it was miles, etc., etc., etc.

Mistake after mistake as this non Destroyer author takes apart the basis of all of the characters in the book.

You will read about roundhouse kicks and other basic Karate moves instead of Sinanju. Like books #108 and #109 somehow Remo has turned into a non weapon version of Mack Bolan. Not a book for Destroyer lovers, even Smith is not his usual self.

could not go lower than one star.
This was a total waste of time. I found I had to force myself to finish it. Not worth the paper it was printed on.

a lesson to be learned
this book, like the past three should serve as reminders to the loyal fans of the destroyer series, that we should never take the continuity and the writing for granted. we should ever be on guard in the future to prevent such tragedies from ever happening again. there is a lesson to be learned from all of this

Worse than a pig's ear
This was without a doubt the WORST attempt at pretending to be a destroyer novel, I've ever read. I mean come on...Remo eating meat...Remo using a spear...Absolutly none of the wonderful anti-PC counterplay and "no sacred cows" that makes "The Destroyer" so much fun to read. My recommendation is to burn a $5 dollar bill.

You will:

1. Save the shipping

2. Not have to read the novel

3. Be able to say that you paid for the entire series

Good target for the range
Pathetic. More mistakes than Clinton's love life, shallower than a rain puddle, more difficult to endure than a biopsy. In short, the absolute worst tripe I have ever read. It has no place in the series.

Pathetic. This book was pathetic.
There isn't really much to add to the already scathing reviews already here, so I am just adding my opinion for quantity. I can't figure out how the guy who rated this book a 4 rated it so high. 4 is giving this piece of trash way too much credit. It MIGHT have been a 4 as a stand alone book, but to anyone who follows this series, it is nothing less than an insult. Write to Gold Eagle and tell them what you think of what they have done to the series since Will Murray left as author.

Remo is not a cartoon
This book is infected with the disease that has attacked the series ever since the original authors stopped doing them years ago. Rather than sharply drawn satire we are treated to more caricatures and humor that is dumbed down to the Tom and Jerry level. Avoid this junk at all costs.
